Thank you so so much for these videos. I have been taking a course at a local school, but I haven't had the best teacher. I'm using your videos to overview and study for my tests. You've been a god send!!!

I've watched almost all your CPT videos and I usually look for the codes in the index first to make sure I know what I'm looking for and get me familiar with it. The last example for the cardiac shunt detection is the only one I wasn't able to look up from the index. Can you assist me with that please?

Detection leads me to the Radiology section - then Cardiovascular system - Code 78428. This is an example of when the Index is not very helpful. You have to kind of think it out to see where to even start. Patient has a cardiac shunt so the "detection" tells me they are trying to visualize it. To visualize it takes me to Radiology as that is where you go in order to "see" stuff.

If you know that Cardiac shunt detection is done through nuclear med, then look up nuclear medicine in the index, then find heart (cardio), then shunt detection. You can also find it by looking up Heart, diagnostic imaging, shunt detection.

Is it also advisable to find codes in radiology using the index? Like u find it first in the index and locate the procedure and find the appropriate code then verify it in the tabular list just like how you find codes in icd cm? Thanks for the reply.

It is okay to write (notes) your books? When you take the CPC exam???

Yes. It is acceptable to make notes in your manuals for use on the Boards. Your notes are to be clarifying notes and not complete scenario's written out. I would keep them "neat and tidy" and you cannot have anything post it notes or additional pages put into your manual
