Holy crap I needed this video. There’s a lot of parkour places around my school that I don’t wanna do cuz rolling on concrete hurts, this video will really help
Bro, Your legendary. I watchede this tutorial , i was riding my scooter and it messed up. I fell into the grass and did a safety roll, NO PAIN. Thanks dude
can you do a tutorial about what SHOULDNT be done during rolls and the best methods for progressions showing the progressive steps from early to master?
I wish you mentioned the shoulder because I used to really struggle with it, but other than that, this video is a godsend for people who struggle with rolling on hard surfaces and I can only say I wish this video came out sooner!
This stuff is hard. For everyone still struggling just know that I’ve been doing parkour for over a decade and I STILL have problems perfectly rolling on concrete
Same here. Been over a decade for me as well. And I have the same problem. Personally I am starting to think there is no solid way to avoid hitting that hip bone on stuff like concrete. I think the technique is more geared towards making sure you don't hit it so hard that its detrimentally painful. At least when it comes to using the role to get out of big drops anyways. I have found that the huge momentum you have just makes it impossible to get a pain free smooth roll. And if you do it was more luck than anything. Your job is to just make sure you do t hit anything so hard your in agony over it.
I would love to see a video on helping to alleviate callusing on the hands from using bars. I do pullups every day so I can one day do muscle ups with ease but I have to take days off to let my hands heal
I agree with the other commenter that building the callouses is helpful, but you could also alternate between that and doing it with weight lifting gloves.
I don't do pullups (yet) but I've been thinking about getting fingerless gloves. My palms took quite the beating when climbing and vaulting on rocks lol
A while back I decided to try the parkour roll on concrete and I would keep hitting a bone on my lower spine, this video has helped motivate me to start learning parkour again!
There was one time I was in gym class, we were playing basketball and I tripped on my friends foot and rolled to save myself, and they froze for a second like "what just happened" and in my head I was like, "something badass that's what just happened😂"
ironically when professionals play football they strive to do the exact opposite; trying to fall as clumsily and as exaggerated as possible in order to get easy goals
Parkour Is Passion....i am big fan of parkour...i want to learn parkour but no one is here to lead me....i watch so many parkour tutorials on youtube and they really help me.....but not getting too good lead....i wish i learn parkour....from TAMILNADU in INDIA
I find that practicing and coaching rolling backwards and forward in a mirrored fashion gives way to connecting the stages more smoothly and with minimum pain. Start with backward roll, keeping your chin to chest to avoid hitting the back of the head, and after finishing the backward roll immediately (without modifying stance) go into forward roll. Basically by thinking of forward roll as a reverse backward roll you can adjust more easily the contact strip of the body and reduce required repetitions to deliver a painless forward roll. The glutes and QL connection is better done with a backward roll (we're more used to lean backwards in bed when going to sleep, for instance, than rolling forward over our scapula and rhomboid). Also, bare in mind that having some muscles on the back and glutes and proper posture (e.g. no winged scapula, no lumbar lordosis) is A BIG PLUS because the muscles act as a cushion.
I watch these videos all the time, and they have really help me with my training! Could you give me some advice on the long vault, I keep clipping my feet. Kong valt
I learned this. I did a ballet recital and had a dive roll on a concrete like hard floor. I landed right on my lower spine and ended up having a bump for 2 weeks. Not only that but I almost broke character during the recital 😅😂
Your drawings and explanations about what to do and not to do according to your anatomy are right on. Landing on your should does protect ones spine. Forward rolls are not the way to go.
I think these will be needed to be learned in school with more importance than sports in the gym class..learn to fall safer will be used to any people in their normal life, than throw a ball, the same like basic self defense, similar than aikido, who need a attack from the other and it's not a way to attack other people, only a way to aboid the attacks from others, and aboid hurt more than imprescindible to the other end attacking you..
man but i am scared to do it ion till ed floor even though i learned how to roll from your previous video. some fear overcoming advice would be awesome. you are great i was waiting for this!!!! LEGEND you are!
If your shoulder is the problem, make sure you're using your arms better to lead into it! Your elbow shouldn't collapse, you should lower it down to the ground to roll from your upper arm to your shoulder.
So Ronnie I cant really do the normal safety roll so i do it like this so I lift up my body with my arm then I get through the last parts of the roll so yeah
One time while longboarding I jumped forward instead of the side and rolled and I curled into a sideways ball and bounced off the pavement and I was good but had minor cuts and scrapes
Good one. Please make a tutorial explaining how you got ypur webster so effortless. I find ghat whenever i train them, it just takes a disproportionate amount of toll on my (right) jumping leg, and I can't seem to get any height. Thanks!
a few days ago i just started learing parkour, and when i was doing rolls, my shoulders took the most damage instead of the spine, but sometimes the spine takes damage too but i felt really bad damage on the shoulders
Holy crap I needed this video. There’s a lot of parkour places around my school that I don’t wanna do cuz rolling on concrete hurts, this video will really help

I tried that once and hesitated so I ended up hitting my head lol
LMAO
I was scared at first at doing it on hard surface but I did it without hesitation and I didn't hit anything I was fine

Just thick jumpers or hoodies but make sure u can’t zip them up cus they tend to be thin

God he makes it look so easy when i roll on concrete i break my spine lol
So your a ghost?
@@HayilCrowz this is a common issue in parkour, it hurts like hell when you roll on concrete or solid ground. Thats why this video was made
@@alexsmart2058 you said every time you do it on concrete you break your spine but if you did that you would probably be dead
@@HayilCrowz it was an exaggeration what i mea is that it hurts a lot
Roll on the side of the back and NOT the spine

Howd u fix the shoulder i find it pretty hard
My shoulder blades hurt whenever doing rolls
Bro i fucked my shoulder bad after a high jump on frozen grass..Can you give tips? How did you fix that
I really needed this because the only good training spots are surrounded by concrete
Awesome. Just today I was thinking about training on rolling on concrete

@Darragh Walsh lol
@Darragh Walsh this made me roll
Thanks Ronnie. I’ve been wondering about this for a long time.
Aye same here
that's right
I would love to see a video on helping to alleviate callusing on the hands from using bars. I do pullups every day so I can one day do muscle ups with ease but I have to take days off to let my hands heal
Consider just letting your hands get callused. It sucks, but it'll make them way more resilient to pain and scratching in the long run.
I agree with the other commenter that building the callouses is helpful, but you could also alternate between that and doing it with weight lifting gloves.
your supposed to only use fingers calluses aren't even a problem
I don't do pullups (yet) but I've been thinking about getting fingerless gloves. My palms took quite the beating when climbing and vaulting on rocks lol
0:50 i see the pun u threw in there lol
What was the pun?
Carl Wheezer “but before I jump into the roll”
YESSS another parkour vid not that I don’t like the stunt videos but I’m excited that he posted so soon again
A while back I decided to try the parkour roll on concrete and I would keep hitting a bone on my lower spine, this video has helped motivate me to start learning parkour again!
THANK YOU!! I’ve needed this for years
It is important to practice on both sides, remember that when training.
I can roll but I can't dive roll. I just can't land without breaking my bones.
ikr
I can but I'm still practicing
@Cruz I haven't, but it hurts like hell
@Cruz exaggerating

Great tutorial. My back broke in half from rolling on concrete like it was normal.
Hey you, yeah you, have a nice day and don't forget to drink water and stay hydrated 👍
@Vaughn Pflug truth be told I was tipsy when I commented that 😂 was feeling pretty good
This helped alot i used to hot those bones even when i dont do a roll on hard surfaces THANKS!
This is what I need to work on. I've always had a hard time rolling on concrete

If your shoulder is the problem, make sure you're using your arms better to lead into it! Your elbow shouldn't collapse, you should lower it down to the ground to roll from your upper arm to your shoulder.
