This song explains what it feels like to fall into a trap where you work so hard to destroy what you hate the most only to become that very monster yourself. This album speaks to me as a biomedical engineering student. Which I don't think is an accident considering Dustin himself is an engineer. When you enter this field, you have dreams of changing the world, improving life quality for humanity and designing wonderful inventions. However, there is also pressures to increase profit by eliminating costs and cutting corners. Other times it's "natural" side effects. Sometimes creating new things that were intended to improve people's lives comes at the price of mental health, the environment, people's jobs, etc. And a lot of the time, these side effects are not expected and only discovered after the fact. And I think that is one of the major themes of "Something Wicked": seeking to help others but at the same time becoming horrified at the realization that you have created more problems for people that almost seem to dwarf the original problem in the name of progress. Starset tends to focus on AI, transhumanism, and social media and their psychological impacts, particularly as these are some of the newest additons to human capability and are representative of what a ton of engineers percieve to be the next big thing in engineering (such as in Icarus and Symbiotic's music videos). But it doesn't have to always be the new and shiny. I myself have a deep interest in cardiovascular medical devices because of the increasing rates of cardiovascular disease. A couple of months ago, I attended a seminar presented by an engineer working in the industry that develops surgical instruments, cardiovascular implants and wound care. The devices she discussed were very intriguing and geniunely seemed livesaving for patients and medical providers, but I couldn't help but shiver at the thought that all of these devices were single use plastics and would likely become biohazardous medical waste in our already polluted world because of the strict FDA regulations and safety requirements under the class III medical device controls. When I asked how they handle the disposing of the used devices, I was told that it was "not a priority" as much as following FDA guidelines. This doesn't even scratch the surface of the engineering ethics that Starset regularly refer to in their songs, particularly the two basic questions of "Can we do it?" and "Should we do it?".
This is such a deep and profound comment. It goes to show how little regard humanity has for the consequences of their actions. I remember Dustin mentioning in his Interview or Vessels that the album was about the different directions the future might take and I can see how this fits in eerily well with the themes of that album. I'm not sure if you read the Prox Transmissions, but that was one question that settled in the back of my mind with "The Everything Machine." Humanity focuses so much on what's new and what can be done, that there's little regard for what's outside of that and the consequences it would bring. The point of the novel was a critique on monopolies, but essentially that IS what's going on with pollution where those in power can do what they want while those at the bottom and future suffer the consequences...
What a cold cry mannn. This is unexpected of you Starset. The gutturals, screams, the whisper in the outro, such massive bridges. I am in love with this one. What a beauty in the pain over here.

I just wanna go back home. Thank you infinitely for existing, and for pouring out your souls. You have no idea what a lifeline you are. I’m so deeply sorry for whatever darkness made these mighty beautiful songs.
Knowing Starsets songs are always full of references, the fact that the song ends with "something wicked this way comes" and thats the exact name of a ray bradbury´s novel still blows my mind.
Actually both are from Macbeth. After Macbeth kills the king he loved and served for his own ambitions lead on by the witches he seeks their counsel again. The witches are brewing spells, thos is where boil boil toil and trouble come from, and as they here a knock one says something wicked this way comes only for Macbeth to open the door and enter. This song is really just the plot for macbeth and I really really love that about it.

It's almost been three months since this released. And for the longest time I didn't know if I liked this one or not. But now I'm convinced that this song incredible.
The song and the symbol in mind, I think it's about someone who was fighting for a righteous cause for the Starset Society and rebellion but is just so damn tired of it seeing as they can't place their faith in anything; nothing can take the pain away, they are questioning for a meaning to continue fighting, they are too small to fix it all- and with it they are just left with anger after denying that side of themselves for so long and this person realizes this where they are at odds with themselves where the song begins to really break down: "Out of myself I can feel it crawling..."

You can literally read this song’s lyrics like a poem. Every song is a banger.
STARSET has a thing for incredible album endings, and this is honestly my favorite one. The grand, epic, vengeful, and in a way creepy vibe it captures is breathtaking.
why all final songs from starset albums are completely different from what I expected and still remains SO FUCKING GOOD?????????????
EVERGLOW

Don’t forget about Rise and Fall. That song is lit
@@annaleepena2790 Severely underrated song. It's goddamn perfect, and also their heaviest song (though Devolution gets close).
rise and fall was lit but wasn’t unexpected
Starset proves once again why they are the best band and just ahead of everyone else, way ahead.
I wouldn’t go that far but this was a very good album.
God... the atmosphere this song carries is so outstanding... these lyrics, the story of it, the symbol being an inverted (or anti-) star... and that ending... that gives me goosebumps. Great job!
This is a fucking masterpiece. Dustin, please make a progressive metal album.
Bless you, I think I just discovered my favourite genre. Never knew what this sort of music was called.
@@uprisingstorm2493 I meant that I went and listened to a bunch of progressive metal music after reading his comment and was blown away :)
@@uprisingstorm2493 haha, all good! I really love Teramaze’s music, Sorella Minore is amazing. And also Soen, specifically the songs EMDR, River, and Lotus. I just love the otherworldly feel of it all. Got any recommendations? 😄
That would be great! 🔥
Dustin's vocal range is insanely good!
Such a beautiful song to end an album just like Everglow and Diving Bell.
Yeah
Also these 2 songs are some of my faves lol
I'm speechless. Starset and co, you never disappoint
If this isn't the anthem for depression, I don't know what is. Maybe it wasn't written to signify that, but, at the end of the day, music is "personal" to an extent, and, my god, does it sum up depression perfectly. It's an amazing song regardless. The whole album is mega and this is the icing on the cake.
This song is based off of Beowulf
This one deserves millions upon millions of views. I am addicted to this one and Disappear in particular.
This song chills my spine so fucking much, it's bizarre
This song is amazing
@@funnyvalentine9848 i love when a Funny Valentine replies me lmao
I keep getting concerned looks in school whenever I play this song…
It’s even better when I start sing it as well because my voice carries that same ominous tone.
Remember how Diving Bell ends i think this probably fits.
@@opulenceharbingerofchaos3939 -Charles White, 2016, colorized.
2:37-3:10 By far my favorite part of the song. The build is amazing, the lyrics progressively get deeper and deeper. I love it.
out of myself i feel it crawling
how can i tell if this is the ending
out of myself it began evolving
i am not well, repent i'm guilty
how can i tell if the sky is falling
how can i fix what there is no mending
how can i tell if i am not well
i've lost myself
i have come undone
That part of the song is magical. Seriously, it's the best thing Starset has ever made in my opinion.
Most suspenseful song they've ever written. The build up, the dissonance. It's remarkable
Algún día... Algún día Starset tendrá el reconocimiento que merece :")
Ojalá, este álbum fue grandioso, no se si este será el último, pero esperemos si sale otro en unos años, sea igual de grandioso, se que lo será, porqué Starset nunca decepciona

Thank you so much, Starset - you’re the only thing that wakes up my soul in this dark, heavy, apathetic, loveless and soulless world. I miss home, I miss my missing piece of soul, I miss myself. I just wanna go back home.
Thank you infinitely for existing, and for pouring out your souls. You have no idea what a lifeline you are. I’m so deeply sorry for whatever darkness made these mighty beautiful songs.
Can't wait for the next album!
Not only that, but the nod to humpty dumpty lol
I'm glad someone else caught this as well
This is the everglow of the album, only more brutal and cold.
It's also the Diving Bell and the Rise And Fall of this album
This makes me think of a hero losing everything and then giving in and becoming the villain.
Sometimes villains make much more sense. Anti-heroes more like it, they’re the ones who really know what’s what.
Darth Vader vibes
@@Chuleta_9 for real. Like I relate the them more as I get older. It makes sense now lol
This was the absolute BEST and killer way to end an already masterpiece album! It's been so worth the wait
This is one of the most complete and beautiful songs i've ever heard. It gives me emotional vibes and adrenaline. Starset, you surprise me more and more
I've listened to this song over and over again and it always sounds like a big cliffhanger. After hearing Starset and Breaking Benjamin are doing a collab it fits perfectly. I absolutely love it.
This is not what I was expecting from this song, but it has surpassed my wildest expectations. I absolutely love the eerie, haunting vibe. Might be one of the best songs you guys have made. What a killer way to end an album full off masterpieces.
This track is the biggest curveball in the album. It's one long, beautiful build up to an explosive, but still soft ending. I couldn't imagine a more perfect finale to such a wonderful collection of music.
Cried listening to this as it explains how I feel dealing with my mental illness in a way I've never been able to.
Man it has been so hard to choose what song is my favorite on the album and this one is one of those close songs! I just love this song so much! Can’t stop listening to the entire album! It’s been on repeat since Friday! 15 times so far! Just so good!!
What you fear you have become...
*Something wicked this way comes*
The fact that the songs 'logo' is the Starset logo upside down could be a representation of how everything that we used to know is about to be flipped on it's head in the next album. Or it's just a cool design.
F O R E S H A D O W I N G
Also, the fact that Something Wicked is the last song on this album, and it leaves off with "Something wicked this way comes..."
Regardless of if it has meaning or not, I think we can all agree the next album is about to SLAP.
The is amazing! It kinda has dark but elegant vibes.
Certainly didn't expect to cry by the album's end, and yet here I am.

Please make a longer version of this :'(((( I want a 10 minute version. This is honestly the greatest thing I've heard this entire year

Yes.
Will probably never happen. But it could! It will tie to the novel as well.

Something wicked this way comes...
Bro, after I listened to the rest of the song, these words were punchy
Would be great if the first song of the next album restarts from this one's ending.
The final songs of every album starset has released always have a different tone that sets them apart from the rest. Absolutely love it, can’t wait for the next album
This is absolutely haunting, and I love it.
This is totally amazing, the vibes in the voice and that kind of sound in the piano reminds me Trent in a certain way, it's by now personally one of best piece of work done by Starset
Sometimes, you have to become a monster yourself to kill off the monsters around you.
ITS TOO GOOOOD NO ONE ELSE CAN DO THIS BUT STARSET
This is just like the best song evr
This is just a masterpiece of a song. Easily #1 on the album for me.
It's almost been three months since this released. And for the longest time I didn't know if I liked this one or not.
But now I'm convinced that this song incredible.
Just have to say that I admire you guys
I Know I'm not the first to say this, but HOLY COW! This song apart from everglow has to be the best closer to an album.
I feel like he's always singing about emotional experience of higher dimension that we can't reach now on our level
Every song of this album is incredibly different, just legendary.
IT'S BEEN SO LONG SINCE WE'VE HEARD DUSTIN'S SCREAM THAT I ALMOST CRIED
Have to say I’m very happy with the entire new album. I do have a couple favorites though. This being one!
I didn't expect such a song to be my favorite of the whole album.
This song has made me excited for the 5th album, and from what it seems like it may come out in late March- beginnging of April im so hyped
This is my favourite band and they make the best music ever in the WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Something weird about this song, it's calm yet scary and dark , I don't know how to describe the scary part but the ending may give you a sample of it
Been over a year since they dropped this masterpiece of music and still vibing to it.
Villains rise with songs like this!
I'm so broken and this song speaks to me
That feeling you get when this song is over and you still have tears running down your face... And no outro to dry them away. Geez.😢😭
Really like how this is the last song of the album, really like the idea of it, especially the ending makes it a downward mood,
This version is just too good. So many variations! It's one hell of a ride from beginning to end.
My goosebumps got goosebumps
This song is the reason I love Starset so fucking much, legit made me sob.
When someone asks me to explain my depression
Me: plays this song
STARSET is truly magical. You guys understand what it’s like to be human more than no other. Keep doing what you are doing.
Man, listening to the album with headphones up to max volume hits different than if they were on 50 like usual
Nothing speaks to my current mental struggles so much other than this song
Last line of this song, and the first line of The Breach, are Shakespeare references 🤯
The first line? From which play??
@@uzmamahfooz2305
Henry V: “Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more”
Macbeth: “By the pricking of my thumbs, Something wicked this way comes.”
@@DrJohnRLawson yeah, SOMETHING WICKED's references were obvious. This THE BREACH one I didn't know of.
This whole song is basically the plot of Macbeth is you listen. I don't know if it was intentional but it's absolutely amazing. "The crucifix in my hands is a lie", Macbeth can no longer pray because of his bloody hands, "Nothing ever kills you", Banqous ghost comes back to haunt him, "dark where the light was", Macbeth falling into madness and misery due to his actions that he can no longer take back. Are just some examples
