An essay on probability in Dicey Dungeons as the Witch: In order to best maximize the efficiency of your spell slots you have to consider not just what is on the card, but what is on every other card. Cards can be divided based on various categories, first are cards that can take any dice, then Even/Odd only dice, followed by min 4 and max 3 dice, and X Only dice. For the purposes of this, I'm overlooking 2 dice requirements, min 3 max 2, min 5 max 4, min 2, and max 5, and just going over the most notable examples. For cards which require one specific die be put into them, the most important fact is that with any number of dice, it is less likely to roll 2 of the same number than two different numbers. As example, if hall of mirrors is in slot 5, and you roll 2 dice, you can roll a [5,6] or a [6,5] and be able to cast it, while if hall of mirrors is in slot 6, you must roll a [6,6]. In a three die scenario you could roll [5,6,$] [6,5,$] [5,$,6] [6,$,5] [$,5,6] [$,6,5] [5,5,6] [5,6,5] [5,6,6] [6,5,5] [6,5,6] or [6,6,5] where $ is any number 1-4, for a total of 30 different rolls, instead of [6,6,%] [6,%,6] [%,6,6] or [6,6,6] where % is any number 1-5, for a total of 16 different rolls. As the number of dice increases, the difference in probability gets smaller by continually smaller margins, but it stays relatively close to being half as likely to roll doubles than any other combination, and it is therefor always more beneficial to put specific die requiring cards on other spell slots. Dice which require evens and odds, and for the same reasons min 4 max 3 dice, go by a different rule set however. Stand alone, all these cards are not as likely to trigger no matter where they are placed; in a 2 die scenario, one MUST be a 50/50 and one MUST be a 1 in 6 chance of activating, but as stated above doubles are about 50% less likely to be rolled. An even requiring card on an odd slot with 2 dice has a 6 in 36, or 1 in 6 rate of success, while if it were on an odd space, the likely hood would be 5 in 36. This can be shown by listing every triggering combination. If it is on slot 1: [1,2] [1,4] [1,6] [2,1] [4,1] or [6,1]. If it's on slot 2: [2,2] [2,4] [2,6] [4,2] [6,2]. Thus it is most beneficial for the single 50/50 card to be on a different spell slot. This is not however true for your whole set; if every odd slot has an odd requiring spell, and every even slot has an even requiring spell, then when you roll at least 3 dice you are guaranteed to be able to play and cast one of them. You could roll [O,O,O] [O,O,E] [E,E,O] or [E,E,E]. If you have even requiring spells on your odd slots, and odd requiring spells on your even slots, than you could roll all evens or all odds, and be unable to play and immediately cast one. Last there are cards which have free use. While these CAN be played using and number, and thus only REQUIRE you to have the dice of their spell slot, and one other, they frequently benefit you more to use one specific die with them. For instance, while ANY die can go in Pea Shooter, it is optimal to put 5s in it, and could therefor be treated as a "needs 5" card. Similarly a Hammer card could be treated as a "needs 6" by you if you want to always trigger the shock with it.

Arguably, you should put the equipment in the slot of the die that it requires, that is, if you assume that there is diminishing value per equipped equipment
You really shouldn't. That diminishes your ability to cast on the turn you prepare the spell and forces you to choose between casting or preparing more copies of the spell. Let's look at Magic Mirror. Assuming 3 dice, you have 16 possible rolls to get it out and cast it if it's on 6, but 30 if it's on another number. If a spell requires evens, or odds you should put it on the reverse as well. Magic Missile on 1 has 72 possible rolls vs 64 on 2.
strifera You are right that you are less likely to be able to cast it the turn you equip it, but, on subsequent turns after it has been equipped, you are in a better position, the idea being you no longer need to equip it to start as it is already equipped and you can use that roll to activate the item
strifera Lets say you wanted to build up a number of dice with magic mirror. If you put it on 6, you are less likely to be able to activate it on the turn you equip it, but on later turns you can put your 6 in magic mirror without being conflicted about using it to equip other items as you already have the item it gives you (magic mirror) equipped
@@theodorejames8285 You're only in a better position if you have as many copies of a spell as you want out. In most cases you'll want several copies of a spell and if you're properly using Magic Mirror you can actually repeatedly case spells on the same turn by repreparing them. If you only want a single copy of a spell out at once, then yes, it is better to put it on the number it uses, but in that situation, you should make it a prepared spell in the first place. I agree that Magic Mirror for example should go on 6 as long as it is also a prepared spell. I was simply using it as an example to illustrate probability.
strifera I definitely see what you are saying. If you are doing relatively complicated turns, where you want to continuously prepare and use the same item, then it would be best to put it on a mutually exclusive die. But, if you are happy to use an item once a turn, then it might just be better to put it on a die that it uses

There are some combos with backfire that can let you go nearly infinite. Things like backfire damaging you -> you get limit break -> use dice to heal+damage -> backfire -> etc. etc. Plus IIRC in the early versions of the game (or even now?) some enemies have it as a way to neuter them

Hi NL I would love to see a zainy run as the magician, all you need is bump learned on slot 1, and on the field on an upgraded spot. A 6 then breaks the game^^ have fun.
Does anyone else think that noise at 00:14 sounds like Mario when he runs into something in 64 and says "oomph"
why does Mario sometimes jump and sometimes fist?
also NL
I personally thinks odd spell should be put on odd dice
Am I just stupid, or is the witch potentially broken if you know how to play her?
I'm aching for more episodes.
Yoh Mr egg, you are one of those people who have their smart boi moments or brain fart moments. It's ok tho, everyone has them...I think
Has he hit alternate realities yet?
1 damage over having hall of mirrors huh? :P
Obligatory comment at this point 😂
Yeah. He's really bad at this.
Not one memorize. X
Why do you hate Hall of Mirrors so much?
Hell yeah brother
What the shhit is the point of "Backfire"? Is it just there to make sure you're paying attention?
I guess it's supposed to make up part of the penalty yer s'pos'dtabegettin'itwith... but none of the other spells he got in that slot were like... objectively counter productive.
There are some combos with backfire that can let you go nearly infinite. Things like backfire damaging you -> you get limit break -> use dice to heal+damage -> backfire -> etc. etc. Plus IIRC in the early versions of the game (or even now?) some enemies have it as a way to neuter them
Ice is nice
the witch again.... this can only go poorly
NL love the videos. But please take the time to read the cards. Your missing optimal lines.
People are liking hall of mirrors, I should remind you that NL loved hall of mirrors his first witch run, let’s see the result of that... I’ll save you the trouble, he got defeated. Most people have trouble with the witch, I didn’t know why, until I saw that everybody was saying to use hall of mirrors more.
What the fuck was this fucking episode what the fuck just what the fuck thats all I have and need to say
Okay comon, I know he is full of mistakes but he did pretty good. He's getting there
:o
more already :)
FATHER RELEASE ME
Lost in the sauce 🤯🥵🥵
Yeah I left when he replaced the run's mechanic with another spell. Really mom's knife'd it up lol
MORE DICEY DUNGEONS REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
NL makes me so mad. I just don't understand it.
o hey didnt see ya there
NO EGG YOU ARE NOT DOING FINE YOU HAVE TO DO EVERY ROON PERFECTLY
Scáthach is another Irish mythological figure. Pronounced sga-hoch . Also noticed you didn't even try to say it. Although that name isn't common at all so I don't blame you.
But please look up how to say Aoife
Probability is cool but it doesn't explain how I rolled 11 6s in a row
Ya it does
U broke math wtf
eggcam + zoom - slouch = next vid... don't @me
He should sit so far into the camera that we can't see the wall behind him. Wall crimes are behind the times.
Okay I'm tired and I've had the wrong amount of coffee... and his witch plays are messing with me... I don't think my posts make sense anymore. Sorry guys. And girls. There could be some womens that watch NL right? Kate?
Dude, ya gotta stop using Frozen on Sneezy. Literally all his dice attacks requires 1s which Frozen gives
smartrocker14 Can‘t tell if you‘re serious or not
XD
