I just got a Proton last week. I didnt have a huge asym in my bag, and usually dont throw something with that kind of potential, but let me jus say I fell in love. I have a 195 average, but first 3 games were 251, 225 and 209. Ball hits like a tank.
Look for a demo day at your local center that has a pro shop. That will let you see if any of the new releases will work for your style. Last Storm Demo Day I found that the Axiom Pearl was too strong for me. Proton is definitely too strong for my speed/rpm combo.
Darren, thank you for taking my suggestion and making the video about it. It truly makes a big difference when I can visually see the two different layouts. Thank you so much, can't wait to pick one up after holidays.
Nice to see a candid look at you trying out both balls. Could see it wasn't exactly what you expected out of the pin up. I'm guessing the pin up would show more shape if you shine it up a little? I usually like pin up balls, but the pin down looked better here.
Hi Darren 👋. I have 2 hot cells that have a similar layout. One is pin up and the other one pin down. If I were to throw up the 10 board on a house shot, would I start with the pin down then switch up to the pin up when the oil starts carrying down or vice versa?
I just started bowling, so I'm new to all these concepts. My most recent ball I had drilled, they drilled directly into the pin. I thought it was strange. What does that mean? Is that a good thing, or a mistake by the pro shop?
So I'm still trying to learn my new release style and the best way to get hook out of my ball, I'm coming from 2 finger style to 3 finger now due to my wrist issues I had. Pin up I'm assuming is going to be best and that is how my current ball is set up what in trying to figure out is exactly how I need my ball drilled as far as to get the best ball reaction.
So with the layouts on these balls would it be a benefit to have a solid ball one way and a pearl ball the opposite? If so would I want my pin up ball to be the solid or the pearl? Also do you have any symmetrical ball layouts?
Darren, I need a layout for a 64yo women with ball speed 10-13mph and 200 revs. I have considered a 1 1/2 p2p x 45, and a pin down on a Storm Hy-Road. Can you suggest alternatives.
i have that ball and i am glad i got it i was able to open up the lane with out having to try to rip the fingers out of the ball. First set with mine was 726.
I know it's been 6 months. But I'll ask anyway. I always wonder this: are you doing anything to change how you roll the ball? As a two handed bowler there's a lot I can vary that the average person isn't going to notice. I throw each ball in my arsenal very differently as far as placement, but the first stroke is always the same. I need a point of reference to see if i need a stronger hook from my Physix, or a lighter one from my Tropical. If neither work I can usually use my Ice (spare ball) to make something happen with a more straight approach. What's the thought process for you in picking a ball to use?
For a rank amateur, more balls just means more confusion. It seems to me, last week, Kyle flamed out, because he made the wrong ball choice. How many shots do you get to decide?
For me, if I know it’s wrong, I switch immediately. I agree that more options does make it confusing... if you aren’t educated in what you have. We do our best on this channel to help everyone understand! If a live explanation is ever needed, visit us on twitch!
Ok, you talked about pin up vs pin down, but i have a ball that has the pin directly next to my ring finger on one of my balls. What does this do to the ball?
Hey DT, Will here, I went to school with Timmy at Penn State, and we just moved from Vega$. Anyway I’m a storm guy and my question is what is the difference between the Evolve and the Proton and I also have a few Hammer Balls but was looking at the Web MB which is a Pearl what is your analysis of these 3 ball I’m a more straight bowler, but also have a Dual Lock which is sick! I look forward to your comment. I want a new ball...🤙🏾
You’ll see a lot more motion out of the proton than gravity evolve. The SPEC cover is very niche. I you’ll see the proton being used more often across the board.
Pin up/down on both Radical Innovators! Maybe even 14 and 16 pounders! This is a fantastic pearl 14 pin up, but I'm looking to get the Solid Pin Down 16 real soon. I bought the Pearl on back 6 months ago, but am going with 16 pounders eventually.
Hey DT, I really enjoy your channel. I am from Sydney Australia and I used to bowl 12 years ago. I finished with a league average of 210 across all of my leagues. I am coming back to it and bought a Pure Physix online. Are you able to review that ball and possibly suggest any other balls? Thanks in advance
The real difference is that pin up hooks more downlane but the earlier/later part is just the distance from pin to PAP. That's the real truth and I got this information from someone called Dennis Eklund from Sweden
A half inch difference won’t change much in terms of comparing pin up and down. These are my two standard up and down layouts. We tweak pin distance based on what we need the ball to do.
I'm assuming top weight don't matter in these balls anymore a 5" pin of course it's gonna roll early the way that ball is set up it should roll n stop...
Ive bowled since i was 7 im 31 now and ive used the same ball storm fired up (180-190 avg) just bought a bw 2.0 pin directly above ring finger(190-200 avg) and at the end of this league im getting an exotic gem, i wanna drill it pin down so it fits directly between my bw and storm fired up, is this a good idea or just drill it strong and it should still fit between them?
Couldn't you have just edited all the "good" shots together? Instead, I had to sit through you constantly making excuses, and adjusting your shots. It was very hard to figure out what the ball was doing vs what you where doing. You obviously make alot of money, hire an editor if you have too. This was just sloppy and confusing for me to figure out what was going on.
@@jefflaird4666 no. Pin down makes it so the ball doesn't pick up until it gets about halfway down lane. Where pin up has the instant movement. Idk why you say ass backwards? You can put a piece of tape on your ball and see this for yourself. Pin down is good for people that are straighter and pin up is good for more angles
I now realize what's been missing in my life. I've been Vitamin D-Tang deficient. Well no more! Subscribed.

My brain: YOU NEED THAT

Really like the format and gaining an insight into how one of the best bowlers sees bowl motion
Great video Darren!
Keep the videos coming. Really helps me with making decisions on how to drill my ball.

Yessir vitamin d tang doing pretty good.
Hey Darren! I’m not sure if you done the comparison and I missed it but, I would like to see a pinup versus pin down with a reality Ball
This is the smooth Jazz hour with Vitamin D 🤣 (PAUSE)
😎
@@DarrenTang what's the name of that instrumental?
I’m really diggin’ this tune. Reminds me very much of the East Coast hip hop I listened to back in the mid ‘90s!
So pin up gives earlier hook and bigger flair. Makes sense, thanks for the clarification.
Thanks brother! Question! You did say at the start of the video that the 2 balls were asymmetrical. Would this be the same for symmetrical balls?
I enjoy the background music. What is the title and artist to this music?
Nice. It was interesting that you didn't cut out the bad shot that didn't showcase what you were trying to do, even though the video has other cuts.

Thank you for taking the time to be very informative
Is your pin up layout the same for symmetrical balls as well?
For straighter bowlers are you recommending pin down
Exactly
Can you do a comparison between an Axiom and an Omega Crux? And, where it fits in a 3-ball (for now) arsenal?
These videos are great and the video quality is amazing

Do you ever drill a ball with pin over from ring finger? If not, why. I have a 3d attack i bought used and had it redrilled pin over.
So would it be better for someone who bowls straight have pin up or pin down? Or does it not make much difference?
i have that ball and i am glad i got it i was able to open up the lane with out having to try to rip the fingers out of the ball. First set with mine was 726.
Excuse the typos. I’m using talk to text. Thanks
Do the same rules regarding pin up vs. down apply to those who can't generate ball speed, such as 10 mph and slower from a stationary wheelchair?
Darren, how does the Proton Physix compare to a Sure Lock? Is the Proton just as early as the Sure Lock and does it lay down as hard on friction?
Could you tell us your starting point of your feet. When you say I moved 4 boards left, from where?
Hey Darren I have a urethane ball pin up ball and I also have a reactive ball pin down. is the pin up urethane ball not going to give me good results?
Nice job got my Proton it is sweet pin up above the bridge nothing fancy just like my Astro and Parallax. Long and backend works for me. Thanks 😊..
Hello sir can i ask u can middle pin bounce the ball?
I just got the ball being drilled. Can't wait to throw it. Dont think pin up or down.

Hi Darren, Can you please review the Strom Tropical Surge? Greetings Rocky
Maybe I missed this but what pattern are you bowling on?
You have a pre-supposition but its not supported by the video? Or did I miss something?
Dos pin up,pin down matter for no thumb bowlers?
Can you review The One remix? Love these videos!
What do you mean 5 X 5.5 and 4? New here. Bowling with pin up. Should I have a ball pin down?
That’s a nice alley you are bowling at Darren, I need to one day check it out
Thanks Darren!
Can you make a review for the Quantum Bias Pearl?
Highly unlikely. He’s on storms staff.
That ball is like a year or 2 old and he only can review Storm/RG because that’s who he’s on staff with
Quantum bias is a great ball that's very durable. Better for dryer lanes
you got some learning to do my guy
Well, he did mention "any ball". :)
Hi Darren, will the proton physix be stronger than pro-motion?
Yes it would
@tan wee kiang

What about a vid with the fever Pitch?
So which is better? Pin Down or Pin Up?
Pin Down allows you to bowl straighter, Pin Up hooks more.
It's not about "better" it's about the right tool for the job
Can you review the 900 Global Volatilty Torque sometime?
Can u talk about the storm emerald green ball
You should try out the Forge Ball.
As well as the importance of pin length and top weight
I'd like to see you do the phase 5

would be more helpful with a tracer to log boards an also a marker on the ball to see axis!

Difference between the proton and RST X1
I was always told a pin down layout was stronger than a pin up ball, not a ton of difference between the motion in the two balls
Pin up has more shape and covers more boards. Pin down is rounder and covers more front to back
I have proton and feverpitch throwing the proton feels impossible
