congrats on being on gardeners world. I thought monty's dog had died last year. Was that the one? Glad you mention they are hard work and can be tricky. When I first stated out I'd think, grandma's flowering plant that just sits in a corner all year long without having to do much with it. Now I am spending every day on repotting, watering, pest control, pruning, observing, learning, always something to do. And although I personally find it frustrating how little is known about orchids and how stubborn orchid growers are for being happy to not know more or understand the topic they are often obsessed with, it just shows how little time the average grower spends learning about orchids - or at least I should say learning about them properly. And even though I have spent years trying to improve my care, I am still a long way away from perfection and I feel like 90% of my fellow orchid growers have had to struggle more than I have over the years, it's inevitable. Like if my brother had a maths teacher at school that taught him 1+1=3. He'd be bound to fail his GCSE compared to having a master mathematician teach him. Even knowing 1+1=2, with orchids, that still doesn't mean all will go as we want and some will just not want to grow.
