I adore puppy love, I feel like it has more aggression. Aggression in a sense that they used more distortion on guitar and “breakdown ish” chord changes. I think they evolved a tad bit in between records, I adore the sound of Puppy Love. Best Buds is a terrific record and I thing Puppy Love is up there with it. I loved the video!!
I think Puppy love just isn't quite as memorable in general. It's the same issue I have with the new tool album. Nothing on the album is bad its just that it is all just more of the same. There are a lot of songs on best buds that immediately get stuck in your head and that you can't stop listening to. I never had that with anything off of puppy love.
If this is all true I'm totally taken a back, I thought Puppy Love was equally as great as Best Buds from first listen and beyond. If I feel like listening to Mom Jeans, there is a 50/50 chance I'll put on either album.
Yeah idk they’re definitely both sick albums but i still feel more of a connection to best buds. to be quite honest i enjoy their live stuff leagues more than their recorded work, mainly just because of the higher energy. puppy love has definitely grown on me over time though.

Sam has been rockin bass with them for a little bit, plus he helps out with Grad Life and does vocals for Just Friends, so I doubt anything has really changed super drastically. I haven't gotten the chance to see them live yet, which I think about every night before I go to sleep, but I'm looking forward to that day, whenever it may come.
When I first heard Best Buds I liked it a lot but It wasn’t anything mind blowing, but when I heard puppy love it captivated me in a way a lot of other records haven’t. To this day it’s my favorite MJ record and one of my favorites in general.
It took me a long time to warm up to this album. However, after listening to it I really, REALLY began to appreciate every little part of it. The mix ups with the rhythm guitar, CRAZY drums, and I love the lyrics in almost every song. There are a few though that I can totally understand why one wouldn't find them memorable, though. I think it helps if you find one song on here you really like, and then open yourself up more to it. If you don't have any expectations, it's an awesome album. I find myself loving it more each time :D

Rumble Fish and That Was Then, This Is Now are fantastic stories that I will never forget for as long as I live. Point being, when someone asks me who's my favorite writer, it's no question for me that is S.E. Hinton. The first to memorably resonate in my heart. Such is the same with the Best Buds album for many. There's just something special about that initial connection that is pure magic.

It gives a lot of insight as to everything going on during the writing of the record and explains why even he thinks it didn’t do as well. It’s definitely something that has grown on me over time and there are a lot of moments that i love on it just as much as best buds

I had never heard of Mom Jeans but I did notice that people didn’t like Puppy Love as much as Best Buds which was odd to me because my first listen was I left my towel at my friends house and instantly thought this band was badass. It might be the sentiment that I tie to Puppy Love in terms of what was going on in my life but I love that album.

I honestly do not feel that big of a rift of quality between best buds and puppy love. The first mom jeans song I heard was 'you can't eat cats kevin' and it immediately hooked me into the band and both of these albums. The highs on puppy love sound just about as good as the highs on best buds to me.

Well I believe that it's mainly because death cup has gotten extensive recognition from a meme. Also in my opinion, best buds is way better. the only song I really like in puppy love is now THIS is podracing. idk. just thoughts from an unimportant person.

To me and the people that I have talked to, Puppy Love just seems so immature compared to Best Buds. While it has better production that cleaner sound is not always what fans of emo/punk music want to hear. We enjoy the grunge and imperfections.
I don't think the Best Buds songs are necessarily more catchy, I get a lot of Puppy Love songs stuck in my head because of how many more times I've listened to it. They're similar albums, but I think Puppy Love's lyrics are more interesting to me. Something about them feel more bitter-sweet, maybe I think they tell more of a "complete story" as an album if you get what I mean. Both great albums though
