Hello again Lynn, I use the waffle non-skid shelf lining to wrap in, Just cut a piece from management's roll, she will never miss it. I also cut a 2x4 by about 6" long in half length wise. and then cut a V groove in each half of the 2x4. I then got a couple of 1/4 X 6 inch carriage bolts. Drilled holes in each end of the 2X4 pieces an thru bolted the two pieces together to make a vice with a V in it the center. I wrap the blank with the waffle non skid shelf liner set the whole thing on my drill press over the bed center hole. Chuck up the centring punch and press the pen parts out. Works great and I have yet yo hit my hand with a hammer.
Yea, about twice a year I get my punch set out and take apart all the errors I've collected (10-15 at a time). I like the added protection of the tape on the finish, just been using some foam rubber pieces.
get s set of magnetic Soft Jaws for the vice from Home Depot. then put a 5/16 bolt in your drill press's quill and tighten. Place the appropriate punch into the pen barrel. Place the barrel into the groove on the soft jaws and tighten.slide the assembly under the bolt's head Then use the drill press. to Press the Pen apart instead of slamming on it with a hammer. You will not harm the finish of the pen or the components with this method
Great video. I am new at this pen turning business and have already messed up one or two, Thanks for the info I needed it.

+Dave White sounds great, send me a picture to LL_Woodworks@yahoo.com. I may have to copy. I need a good method of stabilizing while drilling. Thanks
I will get it out for you today
Worked perfectly on a stubborn bolt action. The blank was expensive so I saved some $$ in the process. Thank you for posting, appreciated.
Great job Lynn, I cant tell you how many pens I've had to disassemble over the years.Regards,Bob
+RJBWoodTurner Thanks Bob I'm sure we've both had our share.
Great video! This is much better than my method. It's grab the pliers, rubber glove, Allen wrench set, and the hammer. Doesn't go well sometimes.
