The BIGGEST video light I've ever seen: a 300w Portable Window - Intellytech Mega LC LiteCloth

  • Intellytech has produced a HUGE soft light that I've been calling the "portable window" - it's 300w, about 3ft by 4.5ft, comes with a grid, diffusion, and a frame. It folds into a tiny little package, can be powered by 2 v-mount batteries or AC, and is remote controlled. This is an insanely large light for a small studio like mine - but is really the only option for me if I want to produce the softest light possible. Learn more about Intellytech's lights:

    I'm gonna buy their your link you you can get a bigger office. You need more space to really let that light do its thing. At least 600sqft. Trust me. More space is a game changer.
    Great video!!!

      Hahah thank you broski - you're totally right. I'm incredibly jealous of your space, it's the perfect size.

    This light has its quirks. Maybe they fixed some of the issues since they released it but I definitely feel like a guinea pig having bought this when it came out.
    1. The control grid it comes with barely fit over the fixture with the softbox on. Had to add extra velcro straps to it
    2. The spigot on the back kept rotating, ended up throwing a cardellini clamp for it to be mountable without rotating and damaging the metal frame where it sits. its also extremely short.
    3. the case it comes with is cheap. Both zippers broke after a few months of use.
    4. Without my memory of seeing the light physically damaged, one of the panels LED diodes stopped working. sent it in for repairs (they were good at sending it back quickly).
    5. a few months of use, again no memory of damage, 7/8 of the panels LED diodes stopped working. As if folding it many times damaged the wires inside. Now I have to take it in again.
    All in all, its a very useful light and has done wonders when it worked. Although I wish I never bought it with all the headaches it came with.

      Hi Nikita, I'm sorry you ran into issues. You had one of the original 1.0 Mega-LC's we made in 2019. We did adjust your pain points over time on the majority of 1.0 units and in the 2.0 design. We added extra length to the grid so it fits better with the softbox on. We adjusted the design of the spigot so it can no longer rotate and changed the wire type so it's nearly impossible for them to go out over time. We only had 3x 1.0 Mega-LC's sent in over time for the wire going out like your unit did (out of hundreds of units). Again, I'm sorry that happened on your unit. I believe we were able to fix that on your unit though based on our records.
      If you ever need anything from us, please let us know. Thanks! -Aaron

    Very tempting. It is hard to find such equal large softbox at first place. Most brand offer rectangular softbox up to 2x3.

    Would love a light meter reading or even what your camera settings are at full power to get a sense of output.

    It would be interesting to see a comparison between this and the Falcon Eyes RX-120TDX, it’s twice as big

    • @TheCameraPro
      @TheCameraPro 4 роки тому +2

      I think the RX-120TDX is 3.9 x 3.9 feet compared to 3 x 4.5 feet. So they are different shapes but pretty similar in size.

    • @TommyCallaway
      @TommyCallaway  4 роки тому +1

      They’re both freaking huge. I would be interested to compare them as a user. One might have way louder fans or not have long extension cables available or something... hmm. :)

    • @siniarch
      @siniarch 3 роки тому

      It seems the Falcon Eyes is 600watts so probably more powerful. But this light seems to be more well made. The frame is easier to have ready, better case, better ballast. But would be nice to do a comparison for sure.

    The best bang for buck is still the Falcon Eyes RX-120TDX. Check that one out. The disadvantage is it is not as easy to pack for travel / transport.

    • @TommyCallaway
      @TommyCallaway  3 роки тому +2

      Nope, one thing I've not had a problem with intellytech's color quality. I have a sekonic C-800 on order to my studio to double-verify everything some time in the next week or so.

    This question is a little late, but if Tommy or anyone sees it and can speak to it I would be grateful. How far from an interview subject could this light be and still be soft enough to make the person look nice? Nice for me means: looks like fairly natural, diffused light rather than that corporate video look, if you know what I mean. A reviewer on a shopping site said they are using this from 8 feet away at only 10% power. That would be a great option, but I'm skeptical about whether that could achieve that nice look I am chasing. Thoughts or experiences? - Dave
