They should seriously do a full scale retrospective documentary about the making of Shrek maybe for its 25th anniversary or something and talk about the production hell it went through to get made. Maybe then we can see more glimpses of the lost Chris Farley version of Shrek and maybe even the lost audio recording of the “I Feel Good” test footage.
Indeed
@@STICKOMEDIA we also need to have shrek with a canadian accent
wishful thinking of the highest order however I do agree
@@alfiewhitson7726 I mean Mike Myres (shreks voice actor) originally gave shrek a canadian accent
I'd watch the making of Shrek documentary
I'll be honest... this early version of Shrek is... terrifying to look at.
Agreed
Oh really? I thought he was quite attractive and handsome. 😍
well shrek is supposed to be a terrifying ogre
@@sirdino2613 yeah but that's not a good way for marketing and promote the movie considering the audience its aimed at
I mean, it's true to the original book...
Knowing how talented indie animators are nowadays, If the Chris Farley audio is ever leaked, I bet someone will try to construct a fan animation out of it.
I bet it could spark another Shrek Retold collaboration
Heck if there's enough of it somebody could synchronize his voice to an AI
Shrek beta community when
There is audio with an animatic on UA-cam.
Is that a challenge?
I could put that on my collage resume in a few years....
Chris Farley is looking down on us right now and going “They finally recognize what my best performance would have been”.
Today it is still Tommy Boy, but seeing that the story was still the same it would have been a hit and perhaps Farley would have felt the love he had sought. RIP Chris!
@@johnboy4025 It wasn’t completely the same, it was actually a much more depressing film, a turn that Chris was going to take towards darker more depressing roles, and the version of Shrek he played was a direct correlation to the person he was. Intimidating, almost scary to other people, but the softest, most kind hearted human being you could ever think of on the inside. The people at Dreamworks that worked on the Farley film while it was in it’s final stages of development before it was shelved have said that this would have not only been Chris Farley’s best role ever, it also would have been the definitive version of the film’s story. But after he died, they kind of had to take the Chris Farley feel out completely, and any influence of his creativity, and condition it to have that gritty, MTV-esque Mike Myers feeling.
I had the privilege to see the concept art and character design of this older version of Shrek in person a few years ago at an exhibition, I’m glad we have actual footage of him moving now!
What exhibition did you see it at?
@@Babyteef The guy is lying for internet points. This hasn't been shown at any exhibition.
@@Babyteef*shrexhibition
I think the “Creepiness” Is just common in most lost media
I would imagine how different Shrek would’ve been if Dreamworks went with this version
and Dreamworks as a whole
It feels like Barnyard. Idk why.
Probably wouldn't have been so many sequels honestly
Likely would of bombed and be forgettable as one of the worst cgi films of all time.
I got you your 300 like
OG Shrek looks kinda like the love child between Homer Simpson and Slimer from The Real Ghostbusters.
You make a good point, the face definitely resembles Slimer.
Omg I can’t unsee it lol
Homer: "omfg that slime got me acting unwise 😫"
Slimer: " Homer, what are you doing? what are yo - ACK
Stuff like Chris Farley shrek kinda makes me wish I could travel between parallel universes. Although I do still quite enjoy the movie we got, I would’ve loved to see Chris Farley’s performance in a world where he didn’t die.
Bro don't worry, the dimensional merge is gonna happen as soon as Jesus Christine Chandler gets back to the sonichu temple 🐀
Hopefully we will one day see the complete Chris Farley shrek movie / tests
Good
I believe in them they can do it
his shrek looks more "ogre", the actual one is almost a green human
@@biomuseum6645 his shrek looks like shrek from the book
Well they only completed the ogres are like onions scene with Chris Farley and the campfire scene so the full movie is not complete with Chris Farley yet we found one thing it's the scene where Shrek says no I'm an ogre doesn't that bother you to donkey and there was part where I didn't hear Shrek at first but Shrek sound like he said in that thing "suit yourself" to Donkey so needless to say that Chris Farley's cut for Shrek is incomplete and lost media to time
O.G. Shrek is the MOST horrifying thing I've seen ALL year. O.G. Shrek may have not had success in movies but he actually did go on to find work as a sleep paralysis demon.
2022 has been a major move on lost media. I’m glad to be alive to witness this. Great video 👍👍👍
Yup, the wicked witch on Sesame Street comes to mind.
Ikr it has been the year of lost media
And the SpongeBob music video

As cool as this is, it does have that definition of a "cursed image" vibe about it. RIP Chris Farley
The one thing this old design does better than the finished one is selling the ugliness of ogres. The point of the movie is that people judge Shrek by his appearance before they even know him, but he really just looks like a big bald guy with green skin and funny ears. It's really not all that monstrous and frightening imo.
I’d love the Farley cut and the hybrid movie to be made/released one day
I’d honestly love if Universal/DreamWorks made a separate studio dedicated to finishing their various cancelled films.
maybe this version of shrek should be included, as a parent to 2001's shrek.
Perhaps the two movies could be related. Maybe it could be a spinoff.
@@connorbeith3232 waste of money and resources
@@ciaragarrity6425 yeah. That would be a great idea. Maybe have the 95 scrapped Shrek be the father of the Shrek we got in the Shrek canon.
Something I feel people dont mention is how much the original shrek video game's art style matches the feel good clip a lot. The game has always had a weird style clash between shrek and the npcs/world. He also doesnt speak! Maybe Farley recorded lines for the game but they went unused for obvious reasons.
If people had discovered the footage in 2010 it probably would've been one of the earliest known lost media discoveries.
Lost media has been around for as long as every form of media. There were were movies from the 1910s that were lost and discovered in the 1950s.
@@kevinr.3542 Even way before that, lost stories, books, articles, written music.
This comment makes no sense
@@kevinr.3542, I'm talking about the internet kind.
The more I watch the footage, the more I actually appreciate the Shrek design they were going for. Not so much the human robber character, and that squash and stretch, while admirable, seems a little awkward. While I've always been mixed about how stiff and photo realistic the Shrek films are compared to, say, Madagascar, I don't think it was quite the right time for them to go full on stylized. They really needed to work towards that, and I think that it paid off greatly once they were able to make CGI 3-D cartoonish movement fluid enough. You look at this early test and then look at their latest movie, The Bad Guys, and it's just night and day. It's just so fluid. 20 + years of perfecting it paid off.
After all its a film about how looks arent everything
I appreciate it but ultimately, I think they made the right choice for the technology available at the time. Even Pixar struggled with fluid animation in that era and they were the ones to really bring it into the mainstream. All things considered, the Shrek movies still look alright and considering how badly photo-realism in CGI often ages, that's a pretty nifty accomplishment.
@@primrosett I think it's primarily thanks to the cutting-edge lighting. It really makes scenes pop compared to what Pixar was doing at the time.
somebody should try to put all versions together
I love Shreks smile in this because (thanks to all these videos) I can totally see him singing “and I feeeeeeel good 🎵 “ right before he flings the mugger in the air… I actually wish dream works would a Shrek demake where they would make the movie how it would be made in 1996.
The Chris Farley version would have been beautiful but maybe too sad for children
The wildest part is this has been on this platform for at least a decade just hanging out and plain sight and we had no idea
Mike Myers’s is the perfect Shrek. It’s really strange to think Chris Farley was originally planned to voice the now iconic character.
That ending part where it shows him going into the bar would’ve been really interesting to see, originally Shrek just hated humans because they hated and feared him. The same goes for the humans here but Shrek is shown trying to interact and be just like everyone else by getting some ale. He might have been denied service then threatened to leave and that could have been one of the more sad and emotional moments he was talking about earlier.
Imagine we found the whole audio recording of Chris Farley he recorded most of the movie so it’s possible it’s somewhere
I believe his family has the records but I could remember that wrong
Did they stop the project due to his death, or did they decide his voice acting not a good fit with the film?
@@MoneyManHolmes due to his death because he almost finished the movie but unfortunately passed away before he could finish the movie so dreamworks was thinking of getting someone to do an impression of Chris Farley to finish the movie but they didn’t out of respect of Chris instead casting a new actor which was Mike Myers
@@HeyMalan not to mention Mike requested to do the role in a Scottish accent, which sounded so good that all voices were cut out and replaced with it.
Shrek is love. Shrek is life.
No
No
I wonder where that phrase came from....
@@sonicfanboy3375 Old copy pastas about sexual intercourse with Shrek.
Why I've had to remember this?
The chris Farley shrek was designed to look more like the book desing
We need to find the dimension where Chris Farley's Shrek was finished, along with the one with the Lord of the Rings being directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring The Beatles (yes, this was an actual project that the Tolkein family said no to -- which is also a conundrum of how good it would've actually been compared to the final films)
since chris farley almost finished every line before he died, i would love to see a almost complete early shrek
Hearing newly-unearthed recordings of Chris Farley got me legit a little misty on the eyes. He was so funny.
would love to hear more chris farley voice work.
Despite the more more uncanny look to these test animations, I actually quite like them. I get some pretty nice medievil ps1 vibes from it, and from the character designs shown I get the feeling this more gothic look might be where they were originally heading, I’d love to see more of this!
This movie definitely would've gotten a sequel
A direct to video one without the main cast reprising their roles
the test animation definitely looks like some straight to UA-cam Movies and Shows film
@@saulgzazueta yes but it was made in the 90s so it was really good for the time
@@aigeneratedwauigi2696 mhrm
I don't know about that, as the one time Dreamworks made their first DTV movie (Joseph: King of Dreams) didn't sell too well, which made them put the kibosh on doing anymore DTV films.
The dance he does was definitely done using the motion capture suit, those subtle movements couldn't have been possible to do by hand back then. Even I thought this dance looked a little too good before seeing the mo-cap suit.
Now that's finally released, someone needs to do a documentary covering all the story from 1995 to 2023
Dude, are you trying to give me a heart attack with that Shrek version of yourself?
When Dreamworks makes a new Shrek movie, this Shrek should be in it as Shrek's long lost cousin.
Funny I was literally watching your UA-cam short about part of the lost Shrek film being found and got the notification for this.
Nice this part of the movie has been found.
And you also wanna know who uploaded the Shrek Tavern sequence nearly 2 years ago? I did. Whilst I was searching through Ken Harsha's official website, I came across the animatic since I too was intrigued by this version of Shrek. But at first, I couldn't open it until I used my video player and got it recorded on my phone, uploaded it onto UA-cam and next thing you know, it's also on the internet archive and on this video.
Wouldn't it be insane if somewhere there is one single VHS copy of the entire film that wasn't released to the public and no one knew about and someone found the full version, People would lose their sh!t
Somewhere in an alternate dimension, this film is being enjoyed by people and our version is their test version
I have a feeling In about 10 years the whole Shrek test footage will be fully released
I'm in a wierd mood right now, and usually this would interest me slightly, but right now I seriously find myself thinking like... what are we doing here. Is this the meaning of life
I’ll just look up the clip instead of listening/watching this for 10 minutes
So if you think about, we always knew a bit of Farleys Shrek:
Farley Shrek is represented by: I got you (I feel good)
Myer's Shrek is represented by: All Star
This version is absolute nightmare fuel. Its like a fever dream that suddenly found its way back into reality. Oh good god... what have we unleashed?!
What a year for found lost media!!!!!
I thought that Test Animation was a original animated UA-cam video that's made by a fan to be disturbing
It is so satisfying when something lost like this, something so rare and impossible to be found, IS found.
Test footage Shrek gives me nightmares
I wish DreamWorks would've stuck with the Darker art style, it's way more Medieval looking.
Hopefully we Will One day see the complete Chris Farley Shrek Movie/Tests
"When i feeeeeel"
"Wow I feel good"

Gotta hand it to the 2000s, that was some advancement in CGI animation for their time, compared to what we have today. Still, I am more thankful we got Dreamwork's Mike Myers' Shrek instead. That one minute of rendered test reminded me too much of Back at the Barnyard, the series. Both in style and animation.
it's 1995/96
@@roninglastrier1996 I stand corrected on era, it's still pretty impressive for what limits CGI had back then.
Yeth. A thing we believe.
White streak speeds by. YETH.
I really hope we get all the Shrek animations, models, the rest of the Shrek I feel good animation, the Shrek Chris Farley audio and Shrek Chris Farley movie (before he passed away that is), and last but not least, the one we all want the most is the Shrek HP commercial!! I hope they are all found before I pass away for sure.
So.... Am I the ONLY ONE who thinks that some of those last designs before the FINAL what we got, looks like a mix between Chris Farley and Wreck It Ralph? I'm pretty sure that some of the animators left DreamWorks and joined Dianey in the mid 2000's. Or it could just be a coincidence....
Some day the full version is gonna be leaked.
Attenborough is one of my very favorite presenters, it’s amazing that he’s still fighting for the environment at nearly 100 years old. 💚
2022 has been insane when considering how much has been found
Awesome. Much respect to Chris Farley
even though the first version of Shrek is scary, I still want to see a full version of the movie.
I still love the final version but looking at the early version, the movie would've been a financial flop because well, look at him.
I actually prefer this because he looks like an actual ogre instead of a human with green skin and weird ears. And I wish they used the more cartoons character designs
Not since the Nintendo Gigaleak of 2021 and the recent leak of Genedy’s Popeye movie have I seen such impressive progress when it comes to searching for this animation here. It won’t be too long before we could actually see what we could’ve had from Chris Farley’s take of the character.
Whats the Nintendo gigaleak?
they could release the chris farley version of shrek and it would be just as popular. we need the chris farley version.
One day we’ll see the full clip, we’re this close!
Who else thinks it's strange that Disney released all animation tests for Toy Story, yet this animation test in full is lost media? Ngl, I think it's a miracle that some stuff of this test surfaced online.
Appreciate the credit bro 💪 keep up the good work

I've seen it back at the Illustration Conference in Philadelphia in 2003 when Barry Jackson (the animator) showed it. I don't think there really is any other footage as he said the studio went in a different direction after the test footage.
Chris Farley was my favorite actor that was gone too soon, and either way, I would love to watch how the original movie would of went for him
It really makes me sad that we don't have the audio from Mr Farley. Even if he isn't around to really breathe life into the character it would be really nice to see what could have been
How awesome is this love shrek love this
I swear I've seen that test footage I don't know if I have the full memory of it in my brain but I do remember seeing it I promise I do it just looked so weird in my head really different than the test footage but Shrek looked way different than what it was...
I don't remember all the test footage I just remembered snippets of it but I do remember what Shrek and test footage kind of looked like I promise I am telling the truth.

this is seriously amazing ! i don’t think I would have liked shrek as much as I do now had they stuck with the test footage version … it’s seriously creepy. it’s sad what happened to chris but I am glad mike was able to give us a truly iconic shrek !
This is great! 👍 Great video, as per usual. Cant wait to see anything else people have found!
Someone finally found the full animation with the sound im just waiting for this man to talk about it
Chris Farley's Shrek looks far more like the original Shrek from the kids book the movie franchise was loosely baised on.
I have always found the human characters in the Shrek movies to be dull and lifeless. The ones in the test and production drawings are so much more creative and interesting.
It was partially found as it still lacks the dialogue and the rest of the animation
okay now if they released the farley cut as an anniversary edition shrek mania will come back #releasethefarleycut
I absolutely love your delivery in this video. You just sounds so pleasant and good natured. Perfect for a video about the Chris Farley version of Shrek.
I know Loren personally. He did make the animation. He won't answer any questions. I take drum lessons from him and that's all he wants to do anymore.
OH MY GOODNESS??
Man I'm so glad I've subscribed to your channel, can't wait to see more rare snaccs like this
bro shrek couldve been scarier if they kept it like this because he is a ogre and ogres are supposed to be scary. shrek in 2000 aint scary but characters in the movie are scared but if they kept it like this, it couldve scared the audiences too
HOLY SHIT!!! I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG!!!
That speed up version from the Vimeo guy looks really good quality though, I wish he’d upload that properly!
Hot take: I really like original shrek design. He was built up so much to be the most disgusting creature imaginable but current design doesn't really show that
I really like the animation style and how dark it is it reminds of igor, i wonder how much was changed after the loss of chris farley but it was probly 80% easily.
Thanks for showing this it was pretty awesome seeing the footage of something thought to be lost for decades.
I just found this I’ve never searched up Shrek in my life and this video is on my recommended
For anyone reading this, another lesser known piece of lost media had been found. It’s from jackass: the movie and has been uploaded on Dave England’s channel. Lost media has been nuts this year
Honestly, I prefer Chris Farley over Mike Myers
his shrek looks more "ogre", the actual one is almost a green human
I would prefer to see both versions as they are both different movies. Shrek as we know it looks and feels like a family movie. Shrek 1996 looks like a teen movie.
Well they said bill Murray was supposed to play shrek then Nicoles cage then Farley
@@danthomas9129 that was for an even older version of Shrek thought up by Stephen Spielberg in 1991 and would’ve been 2D animated, but didn’t go anywhere. As for Nicholas Cage, he was approached the role but turned it down cause he didn’t want kids thinking he looked like an ogre
All you said was “Quandale”
I was hoping you’d read the entire name😂
The mugger is the first disine for Donkey you can tell because the mugger is smiling and has an imbarising funny tone just like donkey
i love the old footage so much.
im a huge Fallout fan and that gritty CDI style of model brings back such good memories of the older Fallout games
“The Shrekman” back at it again
Looks like a Shrek if he was in Boxtrolls.
Yyyeah thank God we got what we got. This animation looks Asylum level..
You've got some of the best content!
Hey Scribbles , you should look into the she hulk movie that was supposed to be made in the 90s but was never completed
No one ever talks about how the full Chris Farley audio was almost done but is now, also lost media.
I never knew any of this. Thanks for the information and video 🍻
Honestly the animation test looks great and I actually really like Shrek’s design,I hope one day the entirety of it surfaces
With that animation and chris Farley I feel like it could have been a cool film and probably had a cult following but wouldn’t have had the lasting and mainstream appeal of the Shrek we got
