Abby never lose your admiration for steam trains. Up north in Michigan we have the Pere Marquette 1225, which has rides from the outer region of Detroit to Owosso and back. The 1225 was the inspiration for the book "Polar Express" Nothing like a good steam whistle to bring a tear to the eye.
Adam and Abby, I've ridden that same train when I last was in the Jeep jamboree event located out of nearby Murthy, NC back in the mid-90s. I also rafted on those blue rafts over those same rapids as a company outing with fellow Chrysler Corporation colleagues. We were based out of Atlanta at the time. Those were the days.
We did the Moonshine ride when visitin the US in August. Really nice experience. Seeing all the RV parks along the track and knowing that you where in the area, I was wondering the pasr few days whether you would take the tour too :-) Out trip went the other direction where you can enjoy the break in a cute brewery.😊 During the break we went to the end of the train where they had two diesel-electric engines. There we had a super interesting chat with one of the engineers who explained how they do the restorations, mostly without plans and machining most of the parts themselves. Wonderful memories.... Did you also visit the model train museum or the Christmas museum? Edit: so to answer your question on the ride back: yes they do have two diesel-electric supporting the steam loco.
Abom, the next time you get back to PA you need to take a trip to the East Broad Top Railroad. Not only do they have steam trains, they have a fully operational belt driven shop.
The rides at Cass Scenic Railroad are definitely worth it! We enjoyed the Greenbrier Express to Durbin. The ride to Bald Knob is also amazing! Elkins, WVA is about an hour away and there is another train ride there. It looked like a good ride as well. There are several good places to eat in Elkins. I recommend Smoke on the Water. They have good barbecue. There is only one restaurant at Cass, in the company store, and a few at Snowshoe. If you head North the Western Maryland Railroad, at Cumberland, is a good ride. A couple of hours from there is East Broad Top Railroad in Orbisonia, PA. You would LOVE EBT's machine shop! It like a time capsule full of old machinery that ran off of belt pulleys.
The rapids you sat and watch and Nantahala Outdoor Center is where Olympic athletes can come to train. Love our NC Mtns. At Christmas they have the Polar Express excursion.
Have you ever visited the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga? They are actually equipped for restoring old locomotive and train cars. Thanks for visiting The Great Smokey Mountain Railroad W. Moore Kennesaw, GA
I see the kudzu has just about taken everything. The lake is way down. The Fontana Dam of the TVA was built in 1940s which meant part of the line the train uses was realigned including the through truss spans the train uses to cross the lake. The train ride the other direction; east, is just as nice. We did both in '08 or '09. This railroad uses this part of the old Southern Railway branch to Murphy, NC.
What a beautiful train ride!! When you get to California be sure to visit the Sacramento Railroad Museum. It’s fantastic!! A friend of ours did the gold leaf lettering and pinstriping on all the trains.
Lovely, guys. By the way, they separate the cars against their couplings so that the locomotive doesn't have to push all the cars at once to get started.
We just did this trip last weekend. I saw you guys in Chattanooga on Labor Day. Gave you a follow and already getting great ideas for trips of our own.
@@AbomAdventures at holiday travel park. I was the one that made the joke about you missing some stickers. We were behind you in the Grand Design Transcend.
Great video and beautiful train ride . My wife and I are wondering which camp ground you stayed at ? We love the videos and watch faithfully. You’ve traveled very close to our home in Western NC. Your stay at Mountain Stream RV was within 20min of our home. Hope to meet you guys sometime and love what you do. Thank you so much !
Oh wow,my wife and I was just there Monday,I would have loved to of met you and Abby.I have been a long time subscriber and fan of your work for a long time. Thanks for all the great videos .
Definitely going to go, hopefully before Christmas. I love trains too. I’ve taken Amtrak from NY to CA several times. Going through Colorado Rockies there were people on boats on the the Colorado river mooning us. I had to tell my two little girls not to look. Thanks for sharing
Great video!! If you go to Lancaster PA. be sure to ride the Strasberg RR. Shorter ride older train. What camp ground did y'all stay at? This looks like a trip we would enjoy.
You should have taken the float trip when you got to the stop. A lot of fun and you go under the swinging bridge where the young boy that played the banjo on Deliverance was standing.
We left Pigeon Forge three hours early to go to the Railroad in Bryson City, the road across the mountain, Hwy 441 was closed thirty minutes before we got to it, the workers told us, we had to go around the mountain, we only had twelve minutes to spare when we arrived. Will never do that again, not worth the stress, LOL.
Swain County and the federal land management are both actively trying to kill the invasive kudzu (a transplanted invasive vine from Asia) along the area. Hopefully this season is much better.
Great video! We have been to Bryson City many times. It is one of favorite places. We have friends that used to live there, and they shared so much info about the area with us. I would love to live there. Micyn_adventures.
The greatest forging and machine of metal in the history of mankind was on these amazing beasts we know as the heavy steam locomotives. Thank you!
Love, love me a good train ride!
Abby's excitement was so fun to watch.

on your next time around you can probably catch a day at the Tweetsie Railroad a little north as they have a hole amusement park for trains!

Lovely, guys. By the way, they separate the cars against their couplings so that the locomotive doesn't have to push all the cars at once to get started.
We are from NC and have ridden them with our kids a few times
The steam powered dynamos are real screamers!
Some time, go to Cass WV, and ride the trains. You will be glad you did. Maybe, next year.
Yes we want to check that one out.
We just did this trip last weekend. I saw you guys in Chattanooga on Labor Day. Gave you a follow and already getting great ideas for trips of our own.
Oh man that’s awesome! Where did you see us in Chattanooga?
@@AbomAdventures at holiday travel park. I was the one that made the joke about you missing some stickers. We were behind you in the Grand Design Transcend.
I would definitely go on that train ride if I ever visit Great Smoky Mountains National Park!

If you ever get to Connecticut get on the Essex valley steam train great ride
Thanks for sharing
We rode the train before and did the rafting down.
I would recommend the Mt Rainier Scenic Railway here in Elbe, WA. 🚂
Good tip, thanks 👍🏻
That train in MT. Rainier is not that good, that’s why we go to other states that have a lot better ones.
My daughter took us on that train for Father’s Day, it was great!
English man here just love your filming. In the uk we also have some scenic views when travelling on train. Love and peace from Wolverhampton England
esome, thanks for sharing your adventures

You will see mountains from this train but it also goes deep into a gorge
Swain County and the federal land management are both actively trying to kill the invasive kudzu (a transplanted invasive vine from Asia) along the area. Hopefully this season is much better.
Is it handicap accessible
Yes.
I'm going to guess that Adam is a Sagittarius and Abby is a Libra.
