The first time I heard this, I was doing laundry. My teen daughter was listening to Blink in her room across the hallway. I totally freaked out. Went into her room crying, hugged her and asked her if everything was ok. I asked her to please know that she could come to me always. She simply said, "Mom, I'm ok, I just like Blink 182..." Everytime Ihear Adam's song, I get this rush of emotion.

They retired this song from live performances (for 9 years) back in 2009 after their good friend Adam Goldstein (DJ AM) died from accidental overdose...stating it was just too hard to perform. In 2018, after returning it to the set list, Mark Hoppus said he found new meaning in the song stating, "I think of it more, now, as almost a celebration, of hardships gone through and friends lost."
I would suggest reacting to their song Stay Together For The Kids.

      Its about a teen suicide

    • @avatarofpapermagic
      @avatarofpapermagic 3 роки тому +18

@@Spedly Adam” is used as a metaphor towards Mark’s depression he experienced while on tour with Blink-182. He stated:
Tom and Travis always had girlfriends waiting back home, so they had something to look forward to at the end of the tour. But I didn’t, so it was always like, I was lonely on tour, but then I got home and it didn’t matter because there was nothing there for me anyway.
“Adam’s Song” is also commonly attributed to the urban myth of Adam Krieger, a fictional character whose suicide letter is falsely portrayed as being the original letter that the band received before writing the song. This fake suicide letter, that is often posted online via places like tumblr, is fictitional and was originally written for a play.

This song was so representative for me when i was younger. Now that I'm in my 40s I can confidently say that the "16 just held such better days, days when I still felt alive, we couldn't wait to get outside" part of the song just becomes truer and truer year by year. Adulthood, for a lot of people, is nothing but misery and garbage. "Growing up" and becoming an adult sucked WAY more than I had ever imagined as a kid. Like, it is literally the death of your soul. It's nothing but misery and struggle. Every day is exactly the same, everything is just on repeat. You have to plan anyting enjoyable weeks in advance cause everyone you know is busy as fuck, so after a while you just stop making the effort. You just end up not engaging with people much, and there it is, shazam, adulthood. Individualism and the rat race puts us in a position where we spend all our hours trying to make enough money to not die.. So that we can have a place to sleep, then wake up and go back to work so we can make money to have a place to sleep so we can wake up in the morning and go to work where we make money so we can have a place to sleep .. .. .. . . . . . . . . . Life? I guess?
Know why "friendship takes a lot of work"? Cause "the world" gets in the way, and none of us seem to be working towards getting "the world" the fuck outta the way. And by "the world" I mean all the shit I mentioned earlier, all the responsibilities of adulthood, the pointless hours toiling away in a shitty job, all the struggles, they're all in the way of humans connecting with each other. Yet no one seems to be working towards having that shit end for good... Instead people are working to "make more jobs." As if that's our main problem.... Hey, have a second or third job, that'll fix this! Job job job! We all love it, right? Why have any spare time when you can do what humans love the most, go to work, make money, go to sleep and wake up and make more money so you can...you get the drill.

I thought about death so much but never really "contemplated suicide" I always remembered I am strong and I don't need to dwell on my problems or think that I need to end it all. Strength comes from within but it takes a lot to bring out your strength when it is so EASY for you to fall into despair and wallow there endlessly...

I totally can relate with you, India. I was 14 and having these thoughts. My dad was an Alcoholic. He was physically and verbally abusive with my Mom when he drank, but also verbally abusive with all my siblings and myself. It was hard to live with that. I wanted out of the pain, hurt, unhappiness, not feeling loved, but most of all not being able to do anything about it cause I was just a kid. Thank you for sharing your story. Lots of Love💖

You are a special young lady, strong as Fort Knox, but vulnerable as a real woman. I admire your strength, and life as you know, is full of unknown blessings, and greater joy. I think you are on a good path, and remember, Life is a roller coaster. Just hold on, and become bigger than the ride. Cheers Sugar.

Even I, as an quite happy and positive teen from not a great but not that bad home, was related to this song so much. I cannot even imagine how powerful this song is for a people who deal with actual depression or suicidal thoughts. I can only think that this song helped a lot of teen back then, around my age, dealing with their sandess and feelings. I love Blink 182 for, shit, over 20 years and respect them forever. You should do Stay together for the kids - another really important song for teens from my generation.

This song makes me cry every time. I deal with severe depression/anxiety and have had suicidal thoughts since junior high (that was mid-90s). I'm on meds now that help balance me out. I'm crying because I met someone that makes me not want to feel this way anymore, for them. If you're out there and you're dealing with these thoughts/feeling...please know there's help out there for you and life is worth living.

Best par is that this song sounds fun and catchy. When you're depressed that's how you fake to be. You act happy but are suffering inside.

My first viewing of your channel I relate so much to this song and your analysis. I have kids that dont know they are mine and I can't tell them yet because the step father has threatened suicide a few times but those who talk about it are often doing it for attention.
This is killing me everyday. I see them all the time and they have no idea just how much I love them and wish I could spend every moment with them.
If not for having them I would have been long gone from this terrible terrible world.

You are so sweet and wonderful. Thank you for sharing this song. Please share that many of us with depression can’t control our emotions and that a lack of chemicals in our brains affects us. It’s a medical condition and not a lack of control on our part. ❤️
