The only thing I disagree with is the statement that “Edward is stronger as a side character than a main character” which I say the opposite, you need a parental figure on your main cast plus Edward is one of the most important characters in the franchise since he’s the reason why the railway series and the Thomas franchise even exist in the first place.
@@joshuaW5621 again, why can’t they just have Edward be the main character that Rosie interacts with in the brenner era to keep him perfectly in character while still being able to do a lot with him as a main character while also include Rosie as a main character.
Consider, the conflict for most Thomas stories are character-vs-character or character-vs-self. Edward’s Exploit gives one of the few true character-vs-nature stories and one of the few true Edward stories. In the end, the only thing that can even come close to stopping Edward are the raw forces of nature.
I genuinely don’t understand why they couldn’t just have Edward be the main character that Emily interacts with in the hit era so they could keep Edward perfectly in character without struggling with him and to give another big reason to make Emily a main character (the other reason to give a female character a more prominent role of course). Emily is like a bossy teenager, she and Edward would be a great duo. They should have also extended the main cast even more to include Molly and Rosie and have Edward be the main character that Rosie interacts with in the miller and brenner era. Edward and Rosie would be a great duo and would probably have a father and daughter kind of relationship and would have helped Edward be just as prominent as Henry, Emily Gordon, etc.
They'd also just be great characters to interact. Both Edward and Emily are long obsolete express engines, and in Edward's Exploit he did experience running as a 4-2-2 like Emily. Just like with Gordon, Edward's been through much of what Emily's experiencing.
It really was a missed opportunity to not have the two interact more, especially during the HIT era where the two were really different personality-wise. My bias probably fuels me in that regard since Edward and Emily are among my favorite characters in the franchise, but still, you'd expect 2 main characters to interact more.
They needed to tell more stories about Edward teaching someone. That's what he did with Percy. I've often thought it would have been great to have segments where Edward talks about a railway. You just hit a nail on the head and flipped a switch on in my brain. I just realised what the feeling I feel when watching Edwards Exploit is, its the same feeling I get when I saw End Game with Captain America being the last Avenger standing against Thanos' army. Shield broken, arm injured, exhausted, battered, a man standing amongst gods, aliens and super high technology. But none the less he stands there, against an alien army, grits his teeth and gets ready to lay down his life to TRY and save the world. Both of these scenes give me chills for exactly the same reason.
This video no matter how many times I've watched brings tears to my eyes and a feeling of absolute triumph everytime. The combination of use of Book and Railways series depictions really help sell this story to its fullest. Edward would be the kind of person to break their leg 5 miles into a marathon, go on to finish the marathon, then only talk about how good those ahead of him were
Edward wasn't my favorite character out of the gate as a kid. Then after a while, I began to notice just how helpful and kind he is. Edward doesn't make a fuss like Gordon or talk trash to others typically. He shows up and gets it done. I recognized his reliability and respected that. Edward saved James and was kind to Duck when he was new. It's almost become this double-edged sword. On one hand, Edward is an amazing character and certainly a positive influence on Sodor. On the other, he is seen as bland or unimportant by many, not even being featured in the first movie. Honestly, Edward should be a top 5 character. The problem is there are so many trains now that fit the nice role that Edward isn't required. Mad respect for Edward, my 2nd favorite.
Rewatching the end sequence of Edward's Sodor's Finest video brings me to tears. He's damaged, he's wheels are sleeping, and the wind and rain is fighting against himm. But Edward whistle triumphantly as he pulls his passengers home.
I don’t think I’d write any Edward episodes, because I’d rather see him for about 30 seconds in character, then to write one whole episode about him not being his true self.
Love the music selection between ~5:35 to ~9:35. I never knew that the How to Train Your Dragon score would work so well and fittingly with Edward's story. Honestly, I don't think that there is an engine more worthy than Edward to be the face on screen when such a legendary score is played.
He's also my favorite on the team so far, his wise-old-man kind of personality really reminds me of my grandpa. Too bad the CGI series did not give him a proper send-off when he leave Tidmouth (I wish he got retired altogether in a classy way like spending all of his last energy to stop a runaway train, damaging himself beyond repair, retiring as a hero with applaud and spend his quiet life on heritage railway).

The way Edward was treated in the HiT Era is where Gordon has the advantage over Edward. Gordon never got touched or affected by the writers in any regard
The moment where Sir Topham Hatt is about to give Edward the third degree upon his arrival for being late, but is overwhelmed by Edward's passengers, cheering and thanking the old blue engine and his crew for getting them to the station against the odds is really heartwarming and I wish the TV show was able to do Edward's Exploit the full justice it deserved. My respect for him was never low, but looking back on this franchise, it definitely went up after getting the full context.
Ok,so I’ve been listening to all the Sodor Hightlight videos I’ve seen so far at work on my AirPods. The opening had such good sound mixing,I honestly thought there was a storm coming! Stella job, whoever did that!
I suppose you could look at Edward in his flaws as a character are all physical. He's an older, slower, and weaker engine than the others. His personality neanwhile is flawless. Imagine it this way: If you took Edward's personality and put it on the physicality of Gordon, you'd have a Mary Sue. If you have the personality of a Mary Sue, but not the power or overwhelming admiration they tend to receive, you can have an interesting and well-written character. That's what Edward is.
No one: Edward in Edward’s Exploit: *insert can you feel my heart as edward disappears to help someone while mattel looms over him on the background with a knife*
I just realised... having less powered axels doesn't change pulling power, it "only" changes adhesion... Basicaly less powered wheels means you have power but no grip enough to get the train moving.
Season 8 and 10 waisted the chances to retouch on Edward’s stern side. The 9th and 11th ones missed the chances to touch on the fact he refuses to give up
When you start off saying how there's miniscule Edwards episodes actually about him. I'd have loved a 'prequel' series of 'Edward the engine' and some of his adventures when he was younger and newer set in the earlier days of building the railway or experiences he'd had before we know him. Whether he worked somewhere prior or not. He is a brilliant character and essential for the franchise especially in the early days
I like Edward too, and I was glad to see that he has some appearance and big world, big adventure, and all engines go Eddie will never be missed and he will never be forgotten
One of my favorite Sodor's Finest character journey analysis videos back again in its purest, well-established, tremendous demands 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯 Gotta give wholesome, gesturing respects to everyone in the Railway Series/Thomas & Friends fandom universe out there, and the Unlucky Tug himself as a true G, to help have this video be brought back in its rightful place. Straight up and down ✌🏾✌🏾 Edward is, without any hint of doubt in the world, beyond existentialism of the Reverend Wilbert Awdry's own legacy, the honest and for truly realest Sodor's Finest EVER!! A character I've grown to accept as one of the two most favorite characters on the tip-top of my list. This video ensembles Edward most beautifully, and will always have him be remembered beautifully 😇🌍☮️🌈✨️🌈😊😭😭🤧😌
Kinda funny to me S6-12 did Edward dirty because he becames from a old and wise to a scaredy who is sometimes arrogant to other engines. And he was the only character from the steam team where wasn't a part of flandazization in the CGI series.Yes he has 2 out of character episodes for the rest of the CGI era he was in his character.
Imagine if learning curve did do a limited edition Edward’s exploit, but it was only released in either Canada or New Zealand and learning curve only made 1,000 to 2,000 of them. (Each copy would be individually modeled) Now could you all imagine how rare and valuable that would be?
When he brought up Henry as a contender to get the train home, I’d think he’d be one of the engines that would want to bring the train home himself. Yeah, he’s become stuck up later on in life, but he’s definitely one to get the job done.
Yeah and I also Thomas and Percy wouldn't give up either because Percy got his train home in Percy's Promise and Thomas became he left his Guard/Conductor behind once but still made up once more and helped mrs kindly out in season 1 Gordon or James would have certainly give up honestly tho James did show destination I don't know.
Edward is my third favourite character, behind Henry and James. I love of how he will push himself to help others, and how wise and kind he is as well.
“The Fat Controller pointed angrily at the clock” “The passengers and crew pointed angrily at the torn up frame and splashers and the lack of side rods”
Edward has a very specific role in the engine's lives that you can't get wrong without damaging the character as a whole. He's pretty much Sir Topham Hatt/Mr. Percival 2.0
I'd honestly love a story with Edward and Toby. And how there ideologies on disciplining the other engines who act out clash with each other. Toby lets them fail and learn on their own, while Edward tries to talk sense into them as he's gone through what they are.
Edward is also my favorite too. It’s been that way since I started watching the show. I too was disgusted with what the Hot era did to him. I think that even stories based on Edward’s exploit would’ve been better than any of those in the HIT era
In Percy Runs Away, Edward joins the tank engines in “playing with trucks” which seemed common in season 1, so I like to think he’s the embodiment of old but young at heart
It's a bit like Marty McFly. Despite being literally the main character of the "Back To The Future" trilogy, none of the films are actually about him. He's almost like a guide to help us through the films.
I can never get enough of this video. It’s the most spot-on thing anyone has ever done/said about Edward.

I have a headcanon that Edward is most popular among the locals.
The way Edward was treated in the HiT Era is where Gordon has the advantage over Edward. Gordon never got touched or affected by the writers in any regard
Edward is a really good character! Plus Edward’s Exploit is one of my favorite Thomas episodes.
To sum it up:
Thomas: main character
Edward: everyone's favorite
Gordon: legend/interesting if you read the books.
I'm Glad You're Getting Your Videos Back.
No one:
Edward in Edward’s Exploit: *insert can you feel my heart as edward disappears to help someone while mattel looms over him on the background with a knife*
I just realised... having less powered axels doesn't change pulling power, it "only" changes adhesion...
Basicaly less powered wheels means you have power but no grip enough to get the train moving.
Dude your videos put my ass in a safe place!
Thank you for the great content man! Thomas the tank engine will always have a special place in my heart!
Season 8 and 10 waisted the chances to retouch on Edward’s stern side. The 9th and 11th ones missed the chances to touch on the fact he refuses to give up
Edward was always my favorite. As a kid, I never understood why there weren't more stories about him.
Thank god you've backed all these up, cant wait to enjoy all your vids again
When you start off saying how there's miniscule Edwards episodes actually about him. I'd have loved a 'prequel' series of 'Edward the engine' and some of his adventures when he was younger and newer set in the earlier days of building the railway or experiences he'd had before we know him. Whether he worked somewhere prior or not. He is a brilliant character and essential for the franchise especially in the early days
OMG YES THE REUPLOD OF MY FAV VID THANKS TUG❤
I like Edward too, and I was glad to see that he has some appearance and big world, big adventure, and all engines go Eddie will never be missed and he will never be forgotten
Gordon thinks he’s a giga Chad. Edward is one.
Straight up and down ✌🏾✌🏾
Edward is, without any hint of doubt in the world, beyond existentialism of the Reverend Wilbert Awdry's own legacy, the honest and for truly realest Sodor's Finest EVER!!
Season 6 didn’t do Edward too bad. He was still the same character that season. If you ask me, his character derailment started in season 7.
Edward is to the NWR fleet, what Hercules was to the Star Tugs.
TTTE Fans: Thomas, We Love You
Edward: Am I a joke to you?
TTTE Fans: We love you too Edward
Edward claps every character. Yes, even Henry.
1:57 "Somehow, The Unlucky Tug's favorite character has returned."
...
[Blinks]
"Coincidence? I THINK NOT!"
I love Edward for his color and kindness. I also like that he's older, but the other engines are bigger.
8:50 comparing a Thomas the Tank Engine character to Captain America, set to music from How To Train Your Dragon checks off so many boxes for me lol
I love the Sodor’s finest stuff
Imagine if learning curve did do a limited edition Edward’s exploit, but it was only released in either Canada or New Zealand and learning curve only made 1,000 to 2,000 of them. (Each copy would be individually modeled) Now could you all imagine how rare and valuable that would be?
Edward’s exploit: the best episode of the classic series
This is my favorite Thomas the tank engine channel and video along with being the best episode in my opinion
9:35 the best part
Edward’s not old iron he’s an iron fist
This video is the summary of the Unlucky Tug reboot. It feels like a manifesto.
It’s amazing how regular content creators like us can come up with better stories for him than HIT, and treat him better than Mattel did in the end
Edward is my favorite too because he never give up
Edward is also my favourite character. 10/10
Trouble: comes
Edward the Great Blue Engine: I didn’t hear no bell!
why does the how to train your dragon theme fit edward so well? like, WOW
DUDE IM SO HAPPY YOUR BACK!
“The Fat Controller pointed angrily at the clock”
“The passengers and crew pointed angrily at the torn up frame and splashers and the lack of side rods”
Edward has a very specific role in the engine's lives that you can't get wrong without damaging the character as a whole. He's pretty much Sir Topham Hatt/Mr. Percival 2.0
Henry is my favorite but I totally adore Edward! He’s cute and charming and strong as nails. All qualities I admire.
I'd honestly love a story with Edward and Toby. And how there ideologies on disciplining the other engines who act out clash with each other.
Toby lets them fail and learn on their own, while Edward tries to talk sense into them as he's gone through what they are.
Y now why is Edward so favourite because hes friendly engine and cine engine and loves to help and he haves many friends
Edward is also my favorite too. It’s been that way since I started watching the show. I too was disgusted with what the Hot era did to him. I think that even stories based on Edward’s exploit would’ve been better than any of those in the HIT era
I’d love to see what a cgi recreation of Edward’s Exploit would look like.
8:11 ahhh yes how to train your dragon music
I would love to see Edward as well as Gordan get a reuploaded sodor’s finest in the new format, it would be really cool
