Beethoven 9th symphony - Alternative instrumental Finale

- In the summer of 1823 Beethoven began concepting the final movement of his 9th symphony and he was struggling whether it should be a choral or an instrumental movement. There are 3 sketches for an instrumental finale from July and even from autumn with a theme which later in 1825 he would use (in a changed and more elaborated form) for the main theme of the Finale of the a-minor string quartet op. 132 and also for a 2nd theme:

Recently one question arose in my heart: What might Beethoven have in mind when considering these themes for an alternative instrumental Finale of the 9th? So I began brooding over the sketches, orchestrated the 5th movement of op. 132 and began to write a symphonic Finale. In this I use certain orchestrated passages from the expostion/recapitulation and the Coda of the quartet movement But the first part of expostion/recapitulation and the development is completely new, also the conclusion... both a crazy and fascinating task :-).
By doing this, however, by no means I want to question the real choral realisation by Beethoven - one of the creative highlights of humanity.
Structure of the movement - Allegro appassionato, d-minor
m.1 - 69 "my" exposition part 1- based on the sketches for the main and second theme
70 - 127 second part of the exposition according to op. 132, 5th mov.
128 - 210 my development
211 - 329 recapitulation, opening in D-Major
330 Coda opening as an Adagio in D-Major
359 - 509 Coda according to op. 132, 5th mov.
510 - 553 my conclusion
I recommend to listen to this work with some good headphones ...
Interesting, looks like Beethoven was quoting Mozart's Lacrimosa in the main theme, which he also does in the last movement (also Allegro Appasionato) of his String Quartet Op. 132
Edit: I've just read that Beethoven intended the movement of the String Quartet as the finale for the 9th symphony so it makes sense, haha!

I guess you can add 2 more Horns and 3 Trombones🤔🤔 since he used 4 Horns and 1 Trombone in the previous movements

Guten Tag Herr Gerd Prengel, ich bewundere sehr ihre Musik und ihren Stil. Sie sind der einzige Komponist, den ich zurzeit auf UA-cam kenne, der solch schöne Musik im klassischen Stil schreibt. Viele stehlen in ihren Werken klingen schon fast so, als hätte Beethoven es selber geschrieben. Ich denke mal ihr Lieblingskomponist ist Ludwig van Beethoven. Haben sie eigentlich schon mal nachgedacht selber eine Sinfonie zuschreiben, oder sowas ähnliches ? Ich freue mich auf ihre Antwort, machen sie weiter so, ich wünsche ihnen einen schönen Tag. :)

Bei ihrer Vervollständigung der 10. Sinfonie, beim Scherzo fehlt zu der mp3 die Partitur, weil es ist die gleiche wie beim 2. Satz, hat das ein Grund oder ist das ein Fehler ? Ich hätte gerne die Partitur vom Scherzo gesehen. 🤔

Hi Gerd. You once had a version of the slow movement of Beethoven Symphony no.10 on UA-cam. It had a most beautiful theme in the flute which has stuck in my mind ever since. I can't seem to find it now.

i dont think beethoven would have that many key signature changes. i bet the key changes are there but they stay in the d minor dey signature maybe with one change especially with the change to d major at the end
It makes it for me so much easier when I edit the notes and for the reader easier to understand them.
