To make a home luxurious from the get-go, I really like to have a nice front porch to welcome my guests. That includes wiping down the door, cleaning all the windows (if your door has them or sidelights) and crevices from dirt, pollen, spiderwebs, leaves etc. It’s something that is so incredibly easy to do, makes a HUGE impact.
I found when taking photos of my new home to send to friends, the photo of my kitchen really helped me see the clutter that I didn’t notice when I was in the space. The photo gave me a different perspective and lead to a reorganization.
Ugh I love this! Great reminders. One thing I think makes a big difference I learned from being married to a plant lover is having nice pots that match for the plants- we started with a hodgepodge of different acquired pots but once we got new ones with the intention of a unified look with variation of sizes and heights the look was SO much more elevated. We get comments all the time about how great it looks!
I love your advice about doing things slowly. This isn't always an option, of course. But I've been finding that when I long for something for my house, I eventually find an object or a solution that works. For example, my kitchen is being redone in a modular fashion. In one area, I wanted an antique piece but couldn't find what I was looking for. The space had been empty for a while when I had an urge to visit a fabulous antique shop in the downtown area of my city. My husband, who rarely goes with me to these places, wanted to come along. One of the first things I saw was a Pennsylvania Dutch jelly cupboard with an outstanding original patina. The measurements were exactly what I wanted. The price was quite low as the shop owners had received the piece as part of a huge estate sale purchase. My husband loved it almost as much as I did. It is robust and gorgeous and now living in my kitchen. The bonus: it's a tribute to my own Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry, which I wasn't expecting, living as I do in the Canadian prairies. But the piece was purchased by a diplomat who had been stationed in the eastern U.S. Sometimes the universe helps us with our designs.🙂
*Clutter, Scale, Maintenance* . I purchased my 1300 sq. ft. ranch style home with aging in place in mind. My furniture and accessories are timeless with minimal detail which makes cleaning easier. I don't like clutter, visually or physically... it makes me feel anxious. As per scale, when I looked at my current home, the previous owner had a very small table in the dining area. It looked like a tiny floating island in space. I added a large table and it completed shifted the aesthetic of the space. Love your tips Garrett.
Your photo illustrations are always on point, but the second one was one for the record books -- positively retina blistering! Excellent advice and practical suggestions, as usual, and dear little Albert on those sheets has me shopping. My dog is eternally grateful.
All great tips and advice, I for one love natural lighting, I open up my curtains and blinds every morning and enjoy the sunlight. Thanks again!! smooches to your sweet pooches...lol...
Love your video as always! Thank you so much for the points about clear walking paths (I am SO clumsy!), and minimizing your space to minimize your stress. I agree. A space that I can maintain is luxurious for me because I don’t feel stressed every time I walk into it.
I so agree! I also have an old framed photo. It's probably a photo of my family, probably 100+ ys old, and I only kept it because even though it's rustic, the frame has hand painted flowers and hand painted floral decorations on the passe-partout. It's not worth much but it looks great! And yes, you can buy both frames and the original art in thrift shops!
I 💗 how respectful you are with your advice but still spicy with your personality! Will you PLEASE go over your 1 hour/day cleaning routine. What is your schedule? I spend too much time and I need your help with direction. Thank you!!
Thank you. Great vid as always. What makes a house not luxurious? Cheap air freshener. It’s like, “What are you trying to hide?” I probably have more but I can’t think of them right now. 💗
So true about maintenance (and everything else you said of course). I strive to have my home be as easily maintained as possible. I'm not there yet but slowly getting there still :) Every time I manage to simplify something it actually feels life-changing!
@@jmsl910 Sometimes it's not even about removing things, it's about finding better simpler ways to maintain them. Like, I have a bamboo countertop in the kitchen that needs regular oiling. Before I'd use coconut oil for it, but I've recently realised that if I use cold-pressed canola oil instead then I don't have to do it nearly as often anymore. Like once or twice a year max instead of every other month. Win! :)

This is another very informative and helpful video, Garrett! I love how honest you are about what's workable for people. Not everyone can keep their home photo ready every minute! That pic of the kitchen with clutter reminds me of the kitchen of a family member. EVERYTHING was out on the counters, so when we needed counter space, we pulled out cutting boards that were built into the old cabinets!!! 😆😆😆 Filthy as well as impractical. To me, a luxurious home has to BREATHE, so one can enjoy the unique pieces, art, organic things, and plants! It doesn't have to be picture perfect, but it needs to be clean. Thank you for mentioning the support of local artists, too! They are amazing resources for making our spaces more luxurious! I've learned so much from you, Garrett, and I'm a LeChic fan for life!!! Colleen
Thanks Colleen! Your support is greatly appreciated! It will never be forgotten. Our subscribers are, and always will be the most important aspect of the channel. :)
Thank you for my LeChic “fix”. So glad you addressed the wood flooring! I too believe having one flooring instead of different woods throughout the house. So may retailers said to go with multiple woods and said it would be boring with one. My instincts said no! Wanted a cohesive look that would not be busy on the eye! Again, your right on the money Garrett!!!
Beautiful, Luxe art frames can be sourced on the cheap from thrift stores.....removing it's existing image and replacing it with your artwork. Have heard this is common practice with decorators who are seeking upscale without taxing the budget. :)
Garrett, this is fantastic-practical ideas that everyone can do to make their home luxurious without spending a lot of money. Even the most humble abode can look nicer without clutter, and I think the #1 reason our homes get cluttered is too much STUFF! I belong to a great Facebook group where everyone encourages each other to Declutter (365). Less to take care of, less visual clutter and actual clutter=relaxing luxury. Thank you for talking about mobility issues and things that take too much time to maintain. As people age, we seem to accumulate way more stuff, and bookshelves, China cabinets, bulky chairs and tables take on a life of their own as we downsize on space but hold on to prices that don't serve us well. Love you, Garrett! ❤️
I definitely agree with you when it comes to art, I cannot abide the hobby lobby mass produced art. All of my art is either vintage or original pieces. I can find large oils in great frames at my flea market and goodwill for an average of 4 dollars, and they are beautiful one of a kind pieces of art. My favorite is usually landscapes or florals
Brooklinen is the best! All of my sheets, duvet covers, and pillow cases are from Brooklinen! I'll make sure to order more pillow cases/sheets and use your code! thanks! ^^
Great video! I think one element that stops a home from feeling luxurious is a ton of mismatched kitchenware...cups, plates, silverware, cooling utensils, etc.
I really love the practical and considered nature of your tips. You go beyond the usual youtube interiors content with taking into account the long term, whether that's thinking about how you'll maintain things on an ongoing basis, or mobility & aging-in-place which is of course going to affect so many of us in our lives, whether directly or for our friends and family. There's a lot of "disposable" design content out here, I think, with short-term fixes or things which are cute but a little careless, and your advice provides a more holistic view which takes into account the life lived in the space, more than the single snapshot "before and after" moment.
Hello Garrette, my names Gail. I hope your day has went well for u. I recently found your channel and I loved it so much I had to subscribe. U are a endless well of amazing informative advice. Your personality is infectious. U seem very kind and in these times, that's a pure treasure. Blessings to u and yours Garrette.
Thanks Garrett, your videos never fail to include something or many somethings that inspire me. Also Not-so fun fact, my brother permanently and totally lost his sight in one eye after tripping over a nighttime booby trap in his smallish space. Since then I’ve been near obsessive about keeping all possible walkways completely clear at all times. I get laughed at in other peoples homes for the way I walk around anything remotely in the way! Lol
Good morning and Happy Sunday! We are currently helping my son with his first home. He has very strong Asperger's traits so I'm trying to help him invest in high quality furniture as he will likely be perfectly happy with it 30 or 40 years from now. 😆 That leaves decor needing to be more budget friendly. I'm having a pretty good time finding more affordable and original things on etsy rather than mass produced big box stores. I have a few canvas prints that adding a frame to really helped them look more put together. Definitely some give and take going on.
You can find so much at thrift stores, flea markets and Facebook marketplace for reasonable prices, too, if you’re willing to strip, paint, etc! I have so much in my house that’s thrifted, mixed in with high quality new store purchases. Good luck!
Congratulations for your son's first home! I wanted to let you know that you can find high end and fabulous furniture at estate sales. I have furnished my home from these sales along with some wonderful auctions. It is a lot of fun and I bet your son would enjoy the thrill of the hunt.
@@eileenvacheresse361 Yes, thank you! He was born an old soul, and really loves things that have a story. His style though is more like if I gave him a moving box he would think it's acceptable for a coffee table, and if he has to spend more than two bucks on anything he is complaining. [My bank account never complained about this special trait 🤣] My mother in law had an antique cuckoo clock that he loves and I have to find a place for it or he will never forgive me. Lol. Thank you all again for the well wishes!
Not only do drapes look better placed higher, but shower curtains, too: I did this in my small bathroom in our beach house and it remade the entire space! Looks very luxe. Loved this vid. Thanks, GLC! PS I have 60s wood Brutalist furniture. Dust loves settling in the different levels of wood pieces so I use canned air to get in the nooks and crannies. Totally worth the hassle bc it’s amazing!
Your channel has been such an inspiration as I'm renovation my a pre-war apartment from the ground up! Thank you brining so much valuable information and for providing some valuable background for so many of your suggestions and guidelines. Super helpful and much appreciated!

Thank you! Following your ideas to create a lovely cohesive space costs nothing. I'm going to weed out a lot of my clutter this week. Your video gave me that push I've needed.
I de-cluttered my house about 4 years ago when I realized the clutter felt chaotic and made me anxious - that pic at 9:44 nearly gave me a panic attack - but I think I went a bit too far so LOVE your videos on how to have a home that is both clutter-free yet feels luxurious!
We have a fairly new home. Built in the last 7 years. Some of the things in the house are builder grade (because that's what we could afford at the time). So, I pick something to upgrade one room at a time and so far, it's made a beautiful difference. All that being said, we have two teen boys. One loves posters, one doesn't want ANYTHING on his walls. GAH! SOOOO, I let the one pick all the posters he wanted in different sizes and then got the poster frames from Walmart. Cheap way to give him what he wanted without stabbing me in the heart with the push pins! The other son, when he saw the difference the frames made, he chose two of his favorite speaker, and I had them framed and hung. Their rooms look pretty luxurious for teenagers... If I do say so myself. HA!
Hello Lovely LeChic Fam! Garrett, thank you for addressing the matchy area rugs. 🤨 Layering similar colors in an adjacent room totally works. My family, hubby included likes to take shoes off at the door, which I'm happy they're not bringing in the dirt but then the area gets cluttered. 😱 Another problem is everything generally ends up on the table. Don't get me started on all those cords, concealing them is so much better. Your advice on breaking down your cleaning in to smaller sessions keep me from feeling completely overwhelmed. Until next time ☺️
I have been following you for months and telling my friends. And watching you, and I have watched so many videos on clearing the clutter that I went wild. Stuff went to the trash. Kitchen stuff got packed up and put in the bilge. Beloved pieces that I had too many of got wrapped and put in the attic. Rearranged the top of my kitchen cabinets in a pleasing aesthetic manner. Still not done but on my way.
I think design styles that look like you never grew up are off-putting - teddy bears in rocking chairs, or a display of superhero figurines. If you are old enough to have a place of your own, you’re old enough for more adult decor. An aside - I let my sons decorate (mostly) as they chose when they were teens. When the older one went to college, I took everything down to repaint and discovered he had put posters up with nails. Not thumbtacks, not push pins, but enormous framing nails! That took a LOT of spackle to fix!
Omg Albert’s joy rolling around on the bed!🙂 I’m all about balance! I dislike loud, chaotic abstract art work, it might cost a bomb but still doesn’t look luxurious to me. If people can’t afford an original piece of artwork by a local artist, buy one of their limited prints to frame. You could always pull out botanical or other styles of prints etc from a book that has high quality glossy images and frame them. My husband whose artistically inclined loves M.C. Escher and what he did was take elements of his favourite B&W paintings of Escher and photoshopped them together, with it looking completely cohesive. He had it professionally printed and then framed it, to hang up in his office. It looks absolutely incredible.
Thanks for another great video. Great advice about maintaining your home. It’s a lot of work when you have a lot of stuff. I think that’s why so many people embarrassed the minimalist style. I felt so much more free when I did some serious decluttering! Now it’s so much easier to keep my house neat and clean.
I am a new subscriber and I love your channel. I especially enjoy your talent for sharing ideas that some people may not want to hear in a way that is pleasant and judgement free. Bravo, Garrett!
One thing I hate to see is theme decorating taken to an extreme. I know someone who is into bear hunting, and let me tell you, every inch of the house has to be on brand. Bear shower curtains, bear knick-knacks, bear art, bear lamps... Or shabby chic where everything is distressed, or ruffly.
I love your channel ! I have watched all of them . I have been remodeling my home and watching you I can make sure I am going in right direction not so trendy but classic . Thank you and keep them coming.
Thanks so much Jodie! I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. Much more to come! Please take a moment to support the channel, and join our very valued subscriber family if you haven't already. :)
Thank you, great points on clutter, both visual and physical. I bought a lot of frames for my photos and paintings in thrift stores where they were sold as framed artwork and still cost way less than new frames. A bit of paint or just a good cleaning, a new dust cover, maybe new hanging hardware and the frames look great.
Hi, Garrett, Albert, and Bullie-Bros. Please elaborate on creating the oversized look for a duvet to fit a king-sized bed (we have a Downright faux-feather bed as a mattress topper, so that makes fitting their standard sized king duvet with cover challenging). Thank you! Love the channel. New subscriber. - Katherine
Hi Katherine! Welcome to the channel. It's great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. I would suggest looking for what's known as a palatial king duvet. In many cases that solves the issue without having to go custom. I have some in my Amazon Storefront which is linked in the description section of the video. :)
Ooh love this video Garrett, I appreciate your tip for multiple rugs in the same room, I will use that tip for when I renovate my living/dining room spaces. Also, YES it's so important to be realistic of what you can maintain in your home, loved that tip too. Thanks again, I always look forward to your videos!
I was waiting for your video! Can you consider in making a video on how to decorete the master room with accent chairs vs bench? Please 💞💞😊 Thank you 🙏
Thanks so much! In a previous video I mentioned I’m not a big fan of of the bench unless some actually uses it versus just clothes and other things are just tossed on there that are not put away . We will definitely will be doing more videos on the primary bedroom in the future. 😊😊😊
Thanks so much for watching, and sharing today! I appreciate it. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven't already, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
Unexpectedly high maintenance item: Kallax shelves (or similar style cube shelves). Takes A LOT longer to dust 25 little cubbies than 5 long shelves. I’m getting rid of mine as soon as I can afford to.
I love this video for you, for me... for ALL of us! Super enjoy your videos and you are spot on with your suggestions and tips! You are another Interior Designer approved! :D
As always love your video. In watching your previous video and this one I’m wondering If you could do cover design mistakes making your style look kitschy or going overboard? For example I like the vibe of dark academia but don’t want to go down the rabbit hole where it looks like the set of Harry Potter. And so many ppl go kitsch with farm house, costal, cottage core etc.. Anyway, I love all you do and enjoy seeing your pups!
Great informative video. I have taken your advice on several things. I am struggling with making a transition from one style to another without looking too weird. I am loving the more minimalistic moody rustic. My house is traditional moody cottage. Do you have any tips without replacing everything at once. I would like to incorporate the more bare wood with my ebonized antique pieces. I have 2 pieces I am keeping a 17th century gothic Italian bench and a Louis the 15th cabinet. Any tips on successful blending ? Thanks so much for your time making us videos.
Thanks so much! I would have to actually see the space, decor, and furniture before I could give my opinion. I might be offering a virtual service later this year on a limited basis for individual interior decorating consultations. :)
One thing..add flower boxes just outside windows or outside Art or interesting plants. When the window is open even a brick wall can be lux if a little effort of design is considered. Beyond true about the upkeep..I have thought about upgrading to more home then I need cuz that’s what society says I should do. But I know me..I can’t upkeep 3,000 plus square feet even if I had a professional team helping. Much more leisure in jewel box then big McMansion.
I love Brooklinen sheets!!!!! All my sheets are from Brooklinen except one set of linen sheets I ordered from Citizenry, and I can't stand them. They were more expensive than Brookinen and they wrinkle so badly I hate it. Thy also feel rough on my skin. I order the satin luxe from Brooklinen, but will try the cashmere next time. I am a sucker for luxurious linens. I also agree with you about artwork. All of my art is either original or by famous artists. My problem is I have all my walls covered in art, framed, of course. I just have a little too much. My father was an architect and I got it from him. But I love it all!
Thanks so much! I truly love the Brooklinen product. My husband and I enjoy using their products, and feel it's great value for money. My cashmere set they gave me is wonderful, and don't forget to use the code in the description box to get a discount if you decide to buy it.:)
I got the paintable outlet covers for 3 obnoxious white covers, and honestly made the biggest difference! An affordable upgrade for my living room, thanks Garrett!
Hello 👋 one of the reasons I have bare walls is because I refuse to buy mass produced art in stores when I have a husband who is an amazing artist and I’m just tapping my feet and waiting patiently 😂 ugh 😑 great video you never disappoint
I’m sorry Gina I really have to see spaces to give specific opinions. I might be offering a virtual service later this year on a limited basis for people who would like to book an individual decorating consultation.

Your personality is infectious. U seem very kind and in these times, that's a pure treasure. Blessings to u and yours Garrette.
Thanks so much for your kind comment Gail!Welcome to the channel. It’s great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. 😊😊😊
Lol
Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying Ruby!
@@hsmd4533 Yes, thank you so much for the suggestions. I'm always up for a project!
Thanks so much! 😊😊😊
Your channel has been such an inspiration as I'm renovation my a pre-war apartment from the ground up! Thank you brining so much valuable information and for providing some valuable background for so many of your suggestions and guidelines. Super helpful and much appreciated!

I de-cluttered my house about 4 years ago when I realized the clutter felt chaotic and made me anxious - that pic at 9:44 nearly gave me a panic attack - but I think I went a bit too far so LOVE your videos on how to have a home that is both clutter-free yet feels luxurious!
Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying.
I FELT THE SAME WAY!!!!!
@@laura24590 It's amazing to me difference in tolerance of our nervous systems hehe
I love that you managed to dig up what looks to be a turquoise and mustard rendition of Gaston’s living room. Just needs an antler chandelier!

HA!
🤩OKAY BLUE SWEATER 😍
You are AMAZING. I love all your videos.
Thanks so much! I appreciate it. 😊😊😁
Until next time ☺️
Thank you Garrett!!!🌹
You are so welcome!⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hi! New subscriber. Love the channel and all of your practical, sustainable advice for creating a luxurious home unique to each of us. Thanks!
Thanks so much! 😊 Welcome to the channel Gayle. It's great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. :)
Thanks
I have been following you for months and telling my friends. And watching you, and I have watched so many videos on clearing the clutter that I went wild. Stuff went to the trash. Kitchen stuff got packed up and put in the bilge. Beloved pieces that I had too many of got wrapped and put in the attic. Rearranged the top of my kitchen cabinets in a pleasing aesthetic manner. Still not done but on my way.
Thanks so much for all your support Gina! I appreciate it. 🌟🌟🌟
Your videos are always spot on! Thank you for teaching us your ways ❤️
I agree cheap bedding can ruin a the look of a great space.
Your studio is amazing. I adore Albert!!!!
Thanks so much!
we love you Albert
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for sharing. :)
Glad you enjoyed Karen! Thanks. 😁😁😁
I am a new subscriber and I love your channel. I especially enjoy your talent for sharing ideas that some people may not want to hear in a way that is pleasant and judgement free. Bravo, Garrett!

Ps & the puppies too! 😘Xoxo's to Lil Mr Albert!!
I think the only words that need to be said are THANK YOU! As usual your videos are such a wealth of knowledge.😊
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed😊😊😊
Agreed!!!😊😊😊
The monstrosity lol
Just subscribed! Love your pooches! Albert is precious! ❤

Glad you enjoyed Frosia!
Hanging pots and pans
Ooh love this video Garrett, I appreciate your tip for multiple rugs in the same room, I will use that tip for when I renovate my living/dining room spaces. Also, YES it's so important to be realistic of what you can maintain in your home, loved that tip too. Thanks again, I always look forward to your videos!

I was waiting for your video! Can you consider in making a video on how to decorete the master room with accent chairs vs bench? Please 💞💞😊
Thank you 🙏
Thanks so much! In a previous video I mentioned I’m not a big fan of of the bench unless some actually uses it versus just clothes and other things are just tossed on there that are not put away . We will definitely will be doing more videos on the primary bedroom in the future. 😊😊😊
I don't have a comment I just wanted to say hi. It is so much fun to see that notification that you have made another video for me to watch.
Thank you so much!
Love the lessons 😊

Great, practical advice and Albert. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed Kathleen! 😁😁😁
Unexpectedly high maintenance item: Kallax shelves (or similar style cube shelves). Takes A LOT longer to dust 25 little cubbies than 5 long shelves. I’m getting rid of mine as soon as I can afford to.
Thank you Garrett for the advice! Another great video.

My friend taught me the trick of buying artwork from goodwill for the frames.
Alberts love of the bedding is brilliant advertisement. I hope they paid Albert well! 😉😉❤️ Excellent video Garrett, thank you!

Thank you so much!
Such good ideas!
Thank you!! 😊
As usual, I agree with all of your tips!

Thanks so much, and thank you for all your support!
Great tips!😊😊😊
I’m watching now. 👍🏻
Garrett, where did you get your bed?! It's truly so beautiful. 😍
Also, I'm loving all these tips. Your videos are always top notch.
Thanks so much! We ordered it from Fabulous and Baroque a few years ago. It's hand carved from mahogany. We love it. :)
My downfall is the mismatched flooring. Sigh. I hope to remedy that soon. 😑
Yay! Sounds like a plan. Please take a moment to support the channel, and join our very valued subscriber family if you haven't already. :)
Popcorn ceilings, and walls, ceilings and floors without mouldings make home look cheap.
I got the paintable outlet covers for 3 obnoxious white covers, and honestly made the biggest difference! An affordable upgrade for my living room, thanks Garrett!
That's awesome! I'm glad you are enjoying them. :)
Hello 👋 one of the reasons I have bare walls is because I refuse to buy mass produced art in stores when I have a husband who is an amazing artist and I’m just tapping my feet and waiting patiently 😂 ugh 😑 great video you never disappoint
Thanks for sharing!! That makes sense. Perhaps, consider some reasonably priced art from a local or regional artist in the meantime. Just an idea. :)
Hello! From Toronto! I'm watching your channel for almost a year now and this is my first time to comment.
Glad to hear from you! I appreciate you being a subscriber and all your support. :)
In the condo I am moving to, all the units have cement ceilings that look sort of textured but you cannot hang lights from them. Any ideas?
I’m sorry Gina I really have to see spaces to give specific opinions. I might be offering a virtual service later this year on a limited basis for people who would like to book an individual decorating consultation.
It was Albert who really sold me on those sheets.
The cluttered kitchen was horrible 😅
I see LeChic, I leclick.
