simply not true anymore, I'm flying an 85" Extra with a 91" in the build process - - both high end electric, these aren't beginner's models, not by a long shot.
Well next time you spend half a day chasing down the reason you fuel motor doesn't run right look over at the Electric guy who just put in 4 flights with ZERO problems. And don't respond "I never have trouble with my fuel motors" because then you'd be lying.
Can’t beat the sole , feel , smell , and overall flights of a gasser balsa. Electric is fun as hell also but that gas just can’t beat . In the end price wise all ends up close.
I like electric now. Never stalls just after take off putting my plane in danger. My batteries fit many planes also. No glo plugs failing, no mess, no old fuel laying around, no after run if your plane sits for a couple years. But that's just me. I appreciate those that go through that stuff to have the longer flight times and sound.
I thought he was talking about gas, not nitro. Many of those big planes run 2 and 4 stroke gasoline engines instead of the little nitro engines. Much more reliable and less prone to randomly quitting on you. Plus they tend to run longer, and are quick and easy to refill. Nitro engines are like top fuel dragster engines. If everything is right, they are impressive. But if anything is wrong, then they are horrible. The gas engines are more like that old chainsaw that just keeps working, year after year. Electric is so much easier and has more power, but batteries at that size of plane are expensive and take time to charge. So, to fly all day, you need a bunch of them. In smaller planes, electric wins hands down. Nitro is for nostalgia for the bragging rights that you still know how to tune one. Once you get bigger, the big gas engines start to get better and cooler. With radials and flat 2 and 4 cylinder engines, you get the cool sound and more scale performance. There is more maintenance, but it’s one of the trade offs you make. Plus, being able to run a smoke kit is a lot of fun. For me, electric up until you can go to multi cylinder 4 stroke engines. Then it’s gas for fun and electric for best performance.
No more cleaning up the AC after flying, the CG never changes, no fuel rotting the planes balsa, no having to get anywhere near the AC's wood chipper, no noise, no pollution, nothing to burn yourself on.
I've been flying RC since 1972, generally for my aerobatic planes with over 5' wing span I go with gas, my large scale planes is either gas or glow 4 stokers, the rest of my fleet is almost all electric.
Keeping your batteries conditioned correctly is time consumming I much prefer the ease of petrol you wipe it down put it away, electric you get home and you have to charge back to storage takes a couple of hours. I have all kinds of planes, electric, nitro and petrol 👍
Gas smells good, sounds good and makes the hair stand up on your neck. Electric is clean and quick to get in the air. I started with nitro and now own all electric just because of the ease and space, but i will own another gaser, mark my words.
Our Club does only have electric planes because the neighbours sued us. But everynoe say that electric is better than gas. Because you have to clean the gas engines and they are expensive and the oldee engines often don‘t work because if the airpressure. So we say that electric is better. Sorry for my bad english
All good. I recently spent 10 years grooving on old nitro engines especially 10s, 15s. So freaking fun. But I am nostalgic, flying since the 70’s. Search my videos. Now I fly all electric foam, mostly my own ugly creations.
It’s more about preference at this point. The experience of the sound and smell gives gas a more exciting character. Electric is quiet, clean, more refined and futuristic.
I’ve got both. When I only have a few minutes to fly between farming jobs, I grab the electric. When I have an hour or two to kill, I fly my 141 inch gasser Super Cub
Both honestly. I like flying edf and the price of an actual turbine is outrageous. On the flip when I'm flying 3D I love my hangar 9 katana. Which has a 50cc gas engine on it. You just sometimes can't replace the sound you get with a real engine. It's really about personal preference and how much your wallet can afford. If I had my choice between a foamy warbird that was electric compared to a composite plane with a radial engine. I would definitely want to fly the one that has the radial engine
gas sounds better and is more realistic, but its more expensive and needs a bit of setup and maintenance. While electric is easier as all you need is to plug in a battery for a bit and your good to go
@@krotchlickmeugh627 I also doont get why they say, Think it are beginners who say, Gasplanes are 67inch or bigger electric can go be very small. But you must compare same plane then electric/gas is around the same.
electric is almost always the "better" option in terms of power, performance, reliability, ease of use, and low noise. Nitro is only fun if you like tuning engines, but it's messy and loud and sometimes a chore. Gas only comes into play with the larger scales, and is actually less expensive than a large electric setup. other than that, an electric setup is still "better" when you're actually at the field flying, provided you have several sets of batteries and a charger.
Well gas u get more stick time 15min plus on tank gas.sounds great butttt the mess u have to clean up after most flights got to hand wipe oil off side or bottom. Battery can get 7min but most are 4min depends on stick control, sounds ok but if have sound system on it then it's good, jets sound pretty good. No messy oil to wipe off plane after flights and power depends on motor u get I see some electric planes much faster than gas planes. Up to person!
I love my Gasser, but I do like my electric. I design and scratch build. My giant has a 100cc twin cylinder. And I designed a twin engine Biplane, it's Electric.
Gas had the problem fuel affected by centrifugal force while electric is not, plus electric has instantaneous power delivery to the plane unlike gas is approximately 120⁰ only
All I fly is electric. My dad flies all gas and nothing sounds better. I will be acquiring his planes and I’m excited for it. As long as you’re flying it doesn’t matter
Electric... Costs more initially, but you don't spend time cleaning up after. In the UK, there's a big issue with noise pollution these days at several flying fields.
Ahh. I'm complete opposite. I went full nitro and gas. Nothing beats the sound. Although I've lost countless planes to engine outs I'll never go back to electric. Just my opinion!
I fly both and some nitro. But the ease of electric is nice. No clean up. Can fly when it’s hot or freezing without tuning. And you can go a lot harder.
I say like some of the others. As long as you are flying is all that matters. I hate seeing planes just sit around. I have been guilty of that when life got in the way of flying. But for me personally i actually prefer fuel . I enjoy tuning and getting the engines to run right. Thats part of the fun of flying. It also can give you thrills of recovery if the engine dies mid flight.
Gas. No batteries to constantly juggle, no requirement for throttle management the whole flight, no need to have a field with power or to buy and bring a generator. Just fuel and fly.
Electric for getting people into the hobby and for people on a budget but gas for experienced pilots and if you can afford it or you want that amazing sound for your giant scale warbirds go gas
I have electric, gassers and glow, im getting away from glow, because of tuning issues, fuel is getting expensive, always die on take off. You can't beat the sound and smell of a gasser. Smoke system is always a one up. Electric is instant power, don't cut off in flight, no tuning, draw back 5 min flight 1 hour wait, silent which and be a plus if in residential areas
I fly (well, I did until maac was grounded) mostly 1/4 scale and larger electric. Have to fly around at part throttle because the power is insane. Flys longer Than I want to be in the air at one time. Usually I'll do two flights on a charge. These are conversions of gas models. They are lighter than they would be with gas and have more powerful motors than the gas that they replace.
There is no battery, in production or research, that can pack the energy of a tank of gasoline in the volume of a tank of gas. You might get more torque from the electric motor, but more range from gas.
There's no debate, as long as you're flying something!
But these guys want keyboard wars, thats is why.😂😂😂
I agree with you CrashyC256
hell nah, nuclear is da best
Electric for beginners, but gas is awesome if you can afford it!👍
true
Electric is far more Expensive. Chargers batteries generators for some people plus all the gear.
@@alwaysflying6540 that's right electric power for the rich! and gas is for the poor.. .

@skip1835 I agree with this comment. I'm flying all high power electric setups and I'm far from a novice lol
Whichever gets you out and flying 👍🏾
The biggest drawback to electric is that you have to buy all your seasons fuel up front.
The second drawback is shorter run times.
Gas can fly all day at a moments notice, electric has to charge forever.
@@chillville5571good charger can charge the biggest of batteries in less than an hour

I built a FPV plane that’ll fly for 1.5 hours on electric. Runtimes are comparable, biggest difference is downtime between flights

Same with buggy’s. Gas just feels and sounds and smells right
Gas is way more fun! Smokers and the dynamic sounds you get from a prop plane are 🔥 👌 😊
I like both but gas sounds better :)
I have 13 electric planes and one gasser that is a 2-cylinder 4-stroke now that sounds good
@@highlander5378 that’s awesome :) 4 stroke sounds amazing
I have a 96 inch stearman biplane. For now it's electric but I really want to put a radial engine on it

Rubber bands 😂
I cant lie I would pick gas anyday over anything but electric is pretty cool
yes my son is adicted to planes
Electric all the way. Raw power no cleanup
Electric is instant torque and RPM.👍👍
@Highlander 53
Also large coarse pitch props:)
and no issues with it just not running right that day...or the next.
Electric for me. I prefer flying over fiddling and tinkering.
Electric... To many problems with gas.. been in the hobby for 30 years.

Gas. I can hear the engine rpm and I get a better idea of the power being applied
Electric is amazing, but good smoke is very optional... I’m torn between the two myself!
I no longer have to take a shower after a flight...

One thing i dont read, but lot of clubs got sound restricts. Then you must do a lot to get the gasser low in sound.
I think anything above 6S should be either turbine or gas
I like them both but if I could only have one it would be electric!
12s must be a monster
it is, it's all that I fly nowadays
Electric - more dependable and MUCH cleaner.

That is a 78” extreme flight extra 300, also electric most of the time if it’s below 40cc in my opinion, gas in anything bigger.
Depends, it’s harder to run the prop backwards on gas for crazy stunts, but gas is cheap with longer run times.
