- Been wanting to upload a simple video like this for a while. An extremely common question I get during streams is "What does (insert Summon here) do?". Now we have a video reference explaining it. Summons are incredibly underrated not just in KH1, but in KH2 as well. They can greatly assist you in fights you may struggle with, especially in Crit or LV1 Crit playthoughs.
I think the only important info I missed in the vid is that you cannot Summon if you don't have party members, with the exception being Xigbar you just cannot Summon.

Personally, Stitch is the best summon. He's a big help in fights like Terra/Lingering Will and both Demyx's (normal and data version). The only disadvantage is that he trolls with you a lot.

I used Peter Pan and his limit to help me finish off that Experiment thing in Christmas/Halloweentown.
Haha sometimes they're great for finishing off enemies
don't feel too bad, that's the best way to level the summon bar if you can't juggle the exp bar between numbers-that is having it go below one number and collecting orbs/hitting enemies to have it go up a number again before it drains to the lower number once more. Both decreases give a summon exp point, while summon limits give however many bars of summon gauge they drain
I only used chicken little for the limit.
It's also worth noting that Tink's Auto-Life will not trigger on Olympus Cups. Found that out the hard way on Crit Hades Paradox.

I believe you forgot to mention that Chicken Little throws potions on Sora when low on HP, just like Genie does. This is on top of the small healing received for every hit scored on an enemy.

I'll be honest, they really do poorly express to the player just what the summons do. Testing each of them out in my first playthrough years ago I've never really noticed any of these useful abilities. Chicken Little felt like a gimmick that was only there just because, Stitch did little overall except maybe launch and attack or stun everyone every now and then - though I found him useful in the underworld cups sometimes - and Peter Pan did little or nothing at all. The only one I valued was Genie since he could put out reliable damage to a group of enemies and was pretty easy to understand.
I wish I knew each of the other summons had such utility, and wasn't about the damage output. I probably would have used them far more often than reserving the drive gauge for drive forms, which I had little understanding of their unique abilities anyways. Thanks for the video, it really helped a lot.
yeah same. i've played kh2 on crit twice and barely ever used summmons because i didnd't know what they did. now i'm doing a level 1 run and realized i should probably learn what these summons do lmao. kh1 also didn't really explain summons but those ones are more intuitive and easier to understand what they do without a guide
Summons in this game are super underrated! Stitch helped me beat Larxene at lv1!
This game is so nearly perfect. Even 10 years after I get this game for the first time, I still discover new things. :)
Chicken little is used to destroy record runs and be the RNG king.
7:07 Has anyone else noticed Stitch heals you 1 HP per drive bar?
I don't know if this is correct or not, because i only just noticed it in this video, but when you said that Stitch can very slowly heal you over the course of time, by the looks of it you get a little bit of HP every time the summon bar goes down, which is probably why it seems so rare, cause whenever you use him, you continuously keep the summon bar up.
Thanks for this video, I watched it back when it was brand new, and this is REALLY helpful for my first KH2 Level 1 playthrough.
8 years. I have played this game since 2009 and still I learned things I never ever knew. It doesn't help that there seems to be no in-game way to look up this information. Thanks Bizkit!

While summons are underrated, I feel like stuff like Drive Forms and Limits are just better in most scenarios, which is why they mostly get thrown to the wayside
I fell the oposide. Summons are way better then Drive Forms. Less Damage but safer. Well when they are available. There are a lot of Data fights where they are not.
Try playing level 1 critical.
I literally cannot imagine fighting Demyx without summons, or the creation monster in halloween town second visit.
I remember my original critical run. I actually leveled up and I struggled so much but only got through since I didn’t die In one hit.
But boy does Chicken little and peter pan save my life. The only form that is useful in level 1 is Limit form.
No joke, I literally die using the other forms. Limit gives me invincibility. I like to use Ars Arcanium.

Stitch is the main reason I bought Kingdom Hearts 2 he was especially helpful during Demyx's boss fight after numerous attempts with just Donald and Goofy. I so hated Demyx's water forms but using Stitch twice during the battle he helped me pull through

This is really helpful! I've played through KH2 several times and only attempted summons 3 or 4 times in total because I couldn't figure out what to do or which one is best to use. Thanks for the video! :)

This ain't Final Fantasy bruh. One of the strongest points of KH is that it's very reminiscent of FF but only if you payed attention and tried to look real hard , because it's at the same time very different and original.
+Matt Gray you dont have to look hard to see all the ff influence. Are you really telling me that you would rather summon something lame like chicken little over Bahamut.One ff summon wouldnt hurt the game.
+FourAngelsX Also Bahamuth was supposed to be in KHI the option to summon him still exist in the game's data but for some reason they never finished to program it.
+FourAngelsX Honestly I would prefer to summon Stich instad of Bahamut but only because is one of my favorit Character in all of Fiction. A Mix of Disney and FF Summons would be cool thought. Bahamut is meybe a bit to big fore the maps. And make him smaller takes away something of his apeal. But Summons like Shiva, Rhamu and the Magus Sisters could work in KH3.

Great video, you are amazing at explaining things.
I usually end up using Peter Pan for the cave of remembrance nobody fights, the auto life fail safe is nice but magnet magic into combos is also rewarded with mp orbs to replenish the heftier cost of magnet. If Tinkerbell's auto life is lost, then I am a bit more careful and use his limit to heal up with hp orbs and run it out a little quicker to resummon.
These videos are really great. Can you do a video about the mushroom 13 please? Most of them aren't too bad but mushroom 8 is just evil.
***** After seeing your speed run of Kingdom Hearts 2.5, I saw how useful summons can be (stun locking with Peter Pan to name a use) and it helped me with Saix on critical. Even in the Final Fantasy games they're mostly ignored, but I find them more useful in KH than FF. I wish I knew how useful they were before getting almost near the end of the game, though.Thanks for the help with both the games and for these guides~

+coverandoacasa KH1 summons overall were pretty straight forward, all of them except for tinker bell were used for damage output
+StickmanSham You can combine Bambi and Thundara to Kill heartleas quick and farming Elexirs. But otherwise you right. With some MP management they are a great fore killing normal enemies.
Also, depending on world, Bambi can drop some really rare stuff. Great for Lucid Crystals...sometimes!

Chicken Little is absolutely GOATed in the Underdrome
I used Stitch in my first playthrough of the original KH2 when i was doing the cups, as well as Peter Pan for his Neverland to rack up several points, but that was about it. I never used Chicken Little or Genie because the lack of a tutorial didnt provoke me in any way to want to use them. Now that Ive taken the time to look at speedruns i know the full extent of what ive missed and now use them pretty much all the time, abusing Stitch and Chicken Little whenever necessary.
Genie saved my bacon during some of the Organization Data bosses and especially Lingering Will. Genie is the MVP.

I found genie's wisdom form rather useful against enemies that couldn't be hurt by physical damage such as the Mad Ride (when its headlights turn on) and the Magic Phantom (when its in the air).

Hey Biz, is there any website that lists every gameplay change from kh2 to kh2fm? Besides the new things that were added many things that already were in the game were changed, and i'd like to know which ones and how (like the valor genie nerf)
the thumbnail looks so epic! Also, i fell stitch is a little broken, considering you can use magic to refill you drive really fast, you can pretty much have infinite stitch with infinite magic.

+The odd one But he does his Abilitys so often that its still broken. And his ukulele paralize enemies and leave them helples aganst Soras atacks. It even works on Organisation Members. and it spawns HP orbs. I hear in KH 2 Final Mix he his Ukulele Move every time when Soras HP go in the read area.

The HP restoration seems to be linked to the summon gauge dropping by a number. Sora appears to get one HP when the summon gauge drops from 9 to 8 and then again dropping from 8 to 7, according to the clip at 6:56.

I found chicken little destroys all of xexions books. That and the lifesteal was quite helpful for the first half of the fight, made it essentially free

Honestly Stitch is the most OP Summon. Once you get him in Hollow Bastion, all bosses become a cakewalk.
I remember as a kid all I used was Summons, since I loved the characters and I didnt care for Drives at all.

Yes but often times when I use chicken little I don't usually choose him for the fact that I cannot control his FPS mode. How exactly do you control it ? My problem is I've tried everything from moving the analog stick to using the directional pad and no matter what I do I can't seem to target an enemy correctly.
You just lock on to an enemy and attack with FPS mode. But that Limit sucks anyway, you use CL and most other Summons for their other abilities
FPS Mode is designed to create an opening in bosses at the cost of 5 Drive Points, what with the instant Cancel into combos.
The game kinda tries to tell you what they do in the status menu like chicken little bringing distant enemies in
Stitch also DESTROYS the underworld records if you are looking to platinum. Shown in video obv.
pls can you do a guide on how to complete the cave of remembrance on lvl 1 I'm really having a hard time to get past all of those enemies.

Chicken little is the best summon. He literally cancels any attack with a whistle he blows every 3 seconds.
An interesting side effect while you are in a summon you can't go into dice/card form from failing a gamblers reaction command.
Which is a perfect way to practice mastering the gambler reaction command what I mean is if you fail the reaction command while the summons are on the battlefield you wont go into dice and card form and it's a good way to practice the gambler reaction command and Master it so you can do the gambler reaction command without failing it when grinding drive orbs to level up Master form and refill the drive gauge and when grinding money as well as when doing the reaction command when fighting luxord
I never let summons be an actual party member and just a glorified limit attack.

Stitch is a common choice for Lingering Will for Summons. Peter Pan is okay too for his Auto Revive. The other two Summons probably won't do you much good though here

To be honest, I've never even used a summon during all my playthrough in KH2, the only times I would ever use them were in the Olympus Cup, and I only ever use Stitch or Chicken Little too. In fact, I never knew you could obtain Peter Pan in this one.
Which is the beauty of KH2. You have so many different ways to beat bosses that even without Summons (not saying they're useless), you can get by on a lot of things.
Chicken Little and Stitch saved my ass several times in my first Critical mode run. I love them.

Is it known why you can't summon during Xigbar? Did the programmers just not want to let you summon in that fight, or does it cause some game breaking crash?
Jose Espinoza Nope, my assumption is they didn't want you to use Stitch to break the fight, because from my Randomizer run we learned Stitch can parry Xigbar's lasers, making the fight trivial. Either that or the game may not handle it, since that fight is known to crash sometimes

+Jose Espinoza The main reason is that Xigbar constantly changes the room layout during his fight, so it may have been too much for the programmers to readjust summon locations when he does this.

I liked Stitch the most as my summon, but during the Hades Cup run... he just never did much. I know it's RNG, but he went through multiple rounds.... just doing 1 or 2 attacks in total. I ended up having to switch to Peter Pan in order to get the necessary amount of orbs.
Now i feel really bad, I never get to use summons 'cause i always wanted to use the limit to do some decent damage, genie, being the exception was the only summon i used and very few times for its power, Now I know the others can be way useful when used correctly D:
I can not believe summons are this OP lmfao. Stich is crazy for level farming as he completely refills your MP all the time, and the damage you do fills the summon bar, so he can almost stay out the entire time you run through a world

What I never got was it was heavily implied summons were the remnants of souls strong enough to survive their worlds collapse, so it was cool seeing Simba again but with Peter Pan here does that mean Neverland got completely fucked?

Peter Pan is easily my favorite. Theirs been a few bosses where he and I just combo into infinity. The two attacks per hit also seems to charge the summon gauge keeping him out more often. Also his hits seem to generate MP orbs which makes him incredibly useful.
Oh yeah and auto life. Seriously can't believe how many people say he's the worst summon in the game.
I always thought chicken little sucked, I had no idea he had those abilities. I would always use the FP mode.
+Ronldbx6 That's the problem the game never explains shit to us and most of us used the gimmicky shit like FPS mode and Stitch's guitar mode and never learned their much more useful mechanics, they just come off as gimmicky and you don't use them until you get into the higher level play and learn strats that others had to learn and explain to you

Fun fact normal attack while chicken little is out will actually heal you
