- Sam Rubin has always been Los Angeles’ entertainment reporter, even in high school.
In footage sent to KTLA, Rubin was part of the “Student News” broadcast in the late 1970s, when he attended high school.
“Student News” was a television production prepared by students of LAUSD, broadcasting in 1977. Sporting his gentle candor, Rubin’s signature inflection can be heard in every delivered line.

I've always LOVED Sam and his style. He always made you feel like his interviews were like a conversation, NOT an interview. THIS picture of a young 16 - or 17 year old Sam is my favorite ! It shows that HE WAS ALWAYS JUST LIKE US, and he never lost that personality trait ! I'm really going to miss the guy. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. We were all honored to have had him in our lives ! RIP SAM ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💙
Sam Rubin was well preserved. He did not look 64 years old. He was a reporter on top of his game and will truly be missed. RIP Sam Rubin ❤🙏

I myself did a student news video show in high school and--well--I wasn't quite this polished. And that's putting it lightly. This man was always a marvel.:) We love you, Sam.
Wow 😲 How old was he there? I'm guessing that that was around 1977, because of "Star Wars." So, maybe, he was around 17 years old. Killed me when he said "Scorsegi," instead of Scorsese, & the $4 movie ticket price made me chuckle out loud. 😅 Rest in peace, dear Sam. We'll miss you here in L.A. You had become "family" to us all.

Don’t you find unfair the box office charts comparing old movies at $4 tickets with new ones at $30? I mention it because Sam brought this issue many times to audience attention, he advocated to count tickets sold over money made per weekend……

He was a reporter here in Los Angeles, he was the entertainment reporter, he did red carpet events and awards shows, but he was a special person even though I never met him in person, he had a way of transferring his energy thru the tv, you would want to watch what he had to say no matter what it was he was talking’s about, he was my morning news favorite personality
