Alan, thank you so much for this video, I have been wanting to learn jigging for years but never realy gave it a try, after watching this video over and over and seting up the right rod and line I went out this morning. After the tide started moving again everything started to click, I missed a couple and lost a couple at the boat but within an hour I had 4 in the boat over 20" what great fun! I here a lot of people say that as soon as they buy new lures the first thing they do is switch out the hooks is ther a hook that you would recomend Thanks again and looking forward to the next video.
Nice shot with the Fish & Game checking out your Boat. He just wanted to be involved in your Video. lol. Well he got his 5 minutes of fame with the one and only Mr Fong.
These videos are awesome. Thanks for all the knowledge you’re willing to give. Makes the learning curve just a little less steep for us new to the delta. So jig deeper for them during the incoming and as it approaches high, they go shallow to feed? I always thought they’d be shallow at the start and end of each ride. How about the outgoing?
Hour before high tide I like being in the shallow flooded islands and after it goes out about three hours I'll finish the last out of the outgoing tide jigging in deeper breaks. I'll catch most of my bigger stripers in 2-5ft of water!
@@AlanFongThank you! It's starting to make a little more sense now. Do you have any recommendations for the start of the incoming? I'm planning to book a trip with you soon I can't wait.
What chartplotter did you say you use on your HDS12? Navionics? Is there a certain one you would recommend buying/installing? Navionics + (West)????? If so, is it easy to install.
Look on my web site alanfongoutdoors.com and it explains what I offer. My consultant fees are listed and I do the trips depending on the weather and water conditions. My intensions are to teach how I go about finding and catching them.
Never use treble hooks. Not only hard to unhook but tears up the mouth when you release them. Especially the small ones..I use a single siwash with a feather or flashaboo. Don't miss many on it
I prefer the morning tides if their fast. But if the evening tide is bigger then I will do it. I have different areas for outgoing n for incoming tides, but if you have big tides the fish are easier to find.
Alan, hey. I want to edit a couple of your videos that show what you'll be talking about at Sep's theaterAND bass tank. Can you send me links to two videos, please?
Best is to go to alanfongoutdoors@gmail.com and there is a phone number you can leave me a message and I will get back to you. I'll start in a couple weeks calling people to set up appointments
Thanks Alan Sure like your videos so informative. Can’t wait until you start your consulting 👍 I have to say Denise sure gives you a hard time so fun to watch. My wife’s name is Denise. Thank you Alan I live in disco bay we have had the Sea Lions in here and other bays for days eating all the fish especially the huge Salmon. There are too many Sea Lions and getting worse every year. Do you know of any plans to start reducing the numbers like Oregon and other areas. Mark disco Bay
LOL Denise is just a good friend that loves fishing more than me. And she is the producer for my you tube channel. I'm married to a wonderful gal who I've been with since high school and been married for 48 years.
Denise asks me all the questions as she doesn't know the answers. Still learning but at a fast rate. Started doing this channel about year n half ago and when we started she was not very good. Now I can say she has improved 100% and can catch fish but finding em is a different story.

Denise, You ask the perfect questions. Warren did good too.
Both of them ask me a lot of questions I take for granite that I think anglers should know. It's tells me they have a lot to learn too!

I switch them out to Gamagatsu single sidewash hooks for 2 oz a 2/0 and for a 3 oz 3/0 hook. If I put a treble I use owner 3X
Great video Alan, the retired life doesn't look too bad!!
Well I'll find out in another week how retired life is lol
Thanks good information
Welcome

On the start of the incoming tide it's gonna be low. I'll go out to the main channel and jig for them
Good video dont have any equipment like that but maybe one day i will and these are good videos to learn.
I wonder how many fish that old chronarch reel has brought in
I'm still using my old chronarchs because their all geared down to 5:1. And I couldn't even guess how many
Great video Allen.
I’m new to spooning and trying to figure it out.
Mind sharing your rod specks for spooning?
Rod a parabotic bend in a 7' M action. Depending on weight of jig also. If spooning for stripers I use a 7'6" MH in moderate action.
Nice video, you two! I need to do more jigging for stripers!!
Took Bladerunner tackle and Roger today and caught over hundred stripers up to 8# spooning and swimbaits
Great video Alan. thanks for this very informative video
Very welcome
Really enjoy your videos.
Glad you like them!
Great info Alan. Thanks.
Welcome I've been seeing lots of followers the last coupe weeks and looks like everyone is catching!
Hi Alan how long do the striped bass stay in the Rio Vista area once they show up
All winter or when the water muddies up then they go north
What chartplotter did you say you use on your HDS12? Navionics? Is there a certain one you would recommend buying/installing? Navionics + (West)????? If so, is it easy to install.
Yes Navonics Hot Map Preminum west $149.99 just put in HDS n it will ask if you want to switch just say yes n your done too simple
When you need to change out hooks which ones do you use to replace with
When I spoon for stripers I either change treble out with owner 3X or a single sidewash hook.
@@AlanFong what size and thanks for the help
2 oz works the best I did a video couple weeks ago you can watch it. Lots of guys said it helped them limit out!
I did great video but I meant what size hook
on 2 oz jig single siwash 2/0 and sz 1 treble
Thank you!
Sweet Vid. I know that's a Halo Rod, but model are you using? I going to try to swing over to your shop this weekend :) Thank you
HFHFX76MHCC it's their cranking rod n perfect spooning rod
Thank you@@AlanFong
Not questioning, but this Halo HFHFX76MHCC will handle a 1 3/4 oz Duh. Spoon? Thank you
NO problem as I use 3 oz spoons on it with no problems. When your jigging your not casting just letting it fall straight down.
Hi Alan
What's the name of that Dark Green Spoon and is it 1/3/4 too? Thank again :)
Bladerunner makes one, thats a color my dad created long time ago. Color Hunter Green
Are you using 3/4oz or 1 3/4oz Blade Runner Duh Spoon, thank you.
1 3/4oz Bladerunner spoons
What can we do if we have old school electronics I mean 1 old Lowrance graph
It will work fine just takes little longer to stay on the fish. I used to use nothing but a flasher and caught lots fish!
Hi Alan, when you use a 3ft leader, do you tie it directly to the braid or use a swivel?
Swivel
Right way is to a swivel but lately I have been using the alberto knot and tying direct to the leader.
You think San Pablo bay is any good now??
It should be but a good rain might push most of the fish into the delta.
Thanks
How much u charge to take someone out for stripers on the delta

I agree single siwash hooks are the best. When you hook one every time it hits the bottom it's much fast to release them and catch another too.
In the winter what tide do you fish the most. The morning tides or evening?
I prefer the morning tides if their fast. But if the evening tide is bigger then I will do it. I have different areas for outgoing n for incoming tides, but if you have big tides the fish are easier to find.
Where do you launch from?
Marina
Either Brannon Island or Sherman Island

What is the relationship of Denise to you. Some say it’s your daughter others say it’s your young wife ?
Just curious 😊
Thanks Alan
None! Denise is my YT channel producer and friend. She handles the producing of the videos and I teach her how to catch fish.

I’ve only been fishing for the last three years but I have never seen my graph look like that with fish
Maybe it's not adjusted right? Take the sensivity and take off auto. Adjust the level up to about 82% Probably how it's set
Went out a few days ago. Nothing but shakers 😢
There are a lt of shakers but there are a lot of keeper too!
Who's the pretty Lady? Looks like you already landed a keeper.

Its the big flat right before the Rio Vista bridge on the east side of the river
