I love how they did the anglerfish it’s not like a jumpscare it has that right sense of “why is that boat gunning for me?” And then it reveals itself. So unique
..yeah, no, when you thought you outrun it and feel relieved but then it accelerate and jump at you.
omg ikk seeing it in the background sometimes and thinking “oh cool another boat!” but then when it starts heading straight toward you is the most chilling feeling.. then you realize it isnt a boat at all.. very well done imo
That and when you're out at night and you hear the horn in the distance. I instinctively thought "Oh! A boat friend!" and honked my horn back. Learned that was not a good thing to do...
Its a neet idea to combine a Ghost ship with a monstrous angler fish that lures other vessels to their doom

I love how the Leviathian is so big that it looks like two of them circling around you but in reality it's just the thing's midsection/tail.

There’s only one. The circling leviathans are a high panic event, meaning they are fake. You can tell because they are the wrong colour.
The real leviathan can still show up even without going out of bounds, but it won’t target the boat.

The stellar basin creature scared me more than the leviathan did honestly. Just sailing at sea on a normal day suddenly storm clouds set in and you notice something massive under your boat, shit is wild.
I instinctively avoided the big hole even before I had any clue what was in it.

For anyone who missed it (I nearly did), the Airman in the mangroves tells you how to avoid the mind-sucker monsters there- just stop moving and they go away after a couple seconds without attacking or vines appearing

Such an incredible game. If you have high stress and blow the foghorn at night you can sometimes hear it blowing back to you in the same sequence!

Note: You don't need high stress, it can be any stress level, it just has to be night.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that figured out that the horn makes the birds go away. You can also use the horn to either locate or attract the ship/angler fish at the beginning of the game. If you do a couple quick beeps it will copy you. I thought that was interesting.

max boat speed in the game is 105.2kn while the serpent goes at 40kn
I felt like the serpent went faster when I was crazy, but I was also crazy at the time so my claims are dubious.

This game was so damn fun and unique. Had a blast playing it. Can't wait to see some expansions. Hopefully we can catch the big shit and get a bigger boat.
Sunless Sea would be a good game to look into if you enjoyed Dredge.
Imagine that if they ever make an expansion to the map you could catch the leviathan
Maybe you can have a crew that levels up with different skills. Different ships, a whaling ship, a speedboat, etc. Actual hurricanes that mess up your ship even more with giant waves. The possibilities are endless.
@@evillink1 I think that's stuff that wouldn't be implementable in the current game are would be better saved for a sequel. But I like the ideas.

The giant eel is terrifying. I hope the devs add dlc where maybe we can catch some of the big bois and girls. I have yet to run into the tentacles or giant ghost fish.
i want an encounter where its late at night and suddenly you hear a song thats soft and soothing and very clearly not just the natural music. maybe there is some figure in the distance and if you choose to go near it right before you get close enough to see it it dives in the water and as you get closer to the rock it was sitting on you get attacked with spears by sirens
once you get the haste power ur gonna be at max panic a lot of the time and u will surely see it

@@ass-master-deluxe i mean... the most effective way of moving is to use hast till right before it breaks your shit and then stop moving completely as time will stop and your stuff will go back down. so yea panic comes in spades
Dude the Mimic Crab is actually one of the coolest and most creative monster designs I've seen in a while. A massive hermit crab that climbs into the hollow hull of a wrecked ship to use as its shell, doubling as natural camouflage to lure in unsuspecting sailors for prey, is an amazingly creative idea
I don't think it is trying to lure sailor as it only gets annoyed instead of chasing you
These creature designs are just so cool! I especially like the ones that are disguised as rocks and boats.

I like the concept of the anglerfish monster chasing you the way the reason you can’t see it is because you can’t see through the fog and your vision is bad so it can appear too look like a boat to you but when you get to close you find it it’s actually really well done
Having read Lovecraft's "The Temple", those dolphins freak me out more than they should
best game I've played in a long time. There is such a drought of just plain fun games like this, right now.

The whales and dolphins jump-scared me so much when since I was so used to the monster by then.
During the night there's also a fake island, I suspect it's a leviathan but it disappeared when I tried to reach it.

I absolutely loved this game's ambience and art style.
what I love about the mind suckers is even with lights on if you stand still when ones about to rise, they are completely harmless. It kept me on edge inside the bogs. My gripe however is the mortar quest. It turns this dangerous stretch of labrynth into a safezone upon completing it, because you make the mind suckers go extinct. You remove all edge from the foggy bogs and essentially it becomes a safe haven.
I like sea monsters so this games is just what I’ve been looking for. I can only hope that the game does well enough so dlc gets added some new places to sail to and some new creeps from the deep added maybe a giant sea turtle that swims around with a island on its back or some deep ones that try boarding the boat and sinking it
I swear there is one more. (maybe it is something the leviathan do?) In Gab's play through there was a multi masted ship in the distance. Maybe it is just something you see?

That unironically would have been so much better than the unseeing mother holy shit
Imagine the first few sirens lure you in with just generic music- youre not magically affected because of your eldritch taint- but the unaware player might get curious all the same- moving in on their own volition.
When the sirens realize the music isnt working, they switch it up- posing as rare fishing spots or even treasure. You dredge it up to find out its a siren ready to cut your throat. Could go hard as fuck
@@newtybot i think both can work, I'd like it if the mermaids were even docile during the day (but hard to find), but become predatory and stalk at night
@@newtybot Imagine if you open up the fishing minigame only to see the siren, and must do your best to do as badly as possible to get the siren off the hook.
Wouldn't it be nice if hanging around the cetaceans (the actual animals lol) restored your sanity? Whale watching is so relaxing.

I wish they made these encounters more frequent. With exception to the monsters set around missions, the crab traps and the angler boats, I never saw any of these encounters during the game. I never actually died the whole way through.
I had to purposely go out of my way in a new game to get high stress to see any of these, and even then I didn't see them all.
The monsters are so cool and I wish I had more scares during my playthrough.
Seeing the absolute freakish monstrosity in the default ending, maybe getting eaten by the leviathan isn’t such a bad thing
ive just enounctered the leviathan randomly at times when over deep water. last time was when i was puttering about between greater marrow and stellar basin, he just swam past and then dived back into the deep.

They’re legitimately scary! Especially the Angler. Just shows up out of nowhere and destroys my vessel!
Okay I 100% the game and never gotten the tentacles, shark or the birds.
The shark and the birds only come if you remain at max paranoia for too long, alongside the Malign Typhoon

There's some interesting visual-play in the game. I think some of the monsters are presented larger than they actually are. The researcher says how the Stellar Basin creature attacked the generator, but a critter that size would do far more than just destroy two or so floorboards
It's not so bad when you manage to scare it off using the repulsion machine.

This game is so cool. I 100%'d it and tried my hardest to see every enemy but there's still some in this video I didn't encounter! (The tentacles and the leviathan attacking the boat). My guess is I upgraded too quickly and prevented my sanity from going low enough to encounter them. And I didn't go far enough out of bounds when I tried. I also saw in a letsplayer's playthrough a ghost ship that was a BIG ship, rather than a little fisherman boat! He didn't go near it so i don't know if it was the same anglerfish though. SO cool!
For some reason this scares me more than Subnautica, must be Thalassophobia and Aquaphobia kicking in again

I encounter a false island similar to the night angler where there were structures in it but like buildings and docks but I never chance to get closer to know what it is cause maybe it's some type of monster or illusion, cause when I open my map there's no island Infront of my boat but it appears in my visual senses.

Na minha primeira vez na bacia estelar, eu demorei uns 15 minutos pra perceber o monstro gigante no centro, eu não tinha ido pescar lá no meio ainda, estava explorando as bordas primeiro. Depois de explorar tudo eu pensei "bom, vou pegar a relíquia, deve estar lá no meio". E cara, nunca senti tanto medo em outro momento do jogo quanto esse. Eu cheguei na borda da área mais funda, não perto o suficiente para o monstro me atacar (não que eu soubesse disso) e só olhei lá para o centro no fundo, e primeiro percebi alguns tentáculos estranhos, e depois uma espécie de flor, então demorei alguns segundos para processar que tudo era apenas um ser gigantesco. Eu senti tanto medo que só pausei o jogo e comecei a tremer, quando voltei a jogar só dei meio volta e pensei "acho que vou pegar a relíquia dos penhascos da tempestade primeiro". Demorei horas para voltar lá, voltei só quando descobri que a missão da pesquisadora era obrigatória para a progressão, e claro, para pegar a última relíquia que faltava
