    Thanks Dave ! . Do you think this would work for a Honda Accord 2006 ? . Between this and the Autel AP 200 which would you recommend ?

    • @DIYDaveOK
      @DIYDaveOK  Рік тому

      I haven't tried programming a Honda key with either, so I can't say with certainty it would work. I've learned that key programming is *really* finicky among manufacturers because the manufacturers REALLY want to keep those $$$ in house!! As for my "go to" for key programming, or at least trying, I'll always try the ThinkDiag first. Thanks for watching!

    I got an extra key fob for Lexus CT200h. Unfortunately, programming the key has failed multiple times with Thinkdiag. Anything I should be checking?

    • @DIYDaveOK
      @DIYDaveOK  Рік тому +1

      Man, that's frustrating. Key programming can be SO finicky from car to car. Any particular error messages you're seeing?

    • @zonykel
      @zonykel Рік тому

      @@DIYDaveOK I think I figured out what the problem is. I bought an aftermarket key, not original or refurbished Lexus. The eBay seller mentioned something about the key having a "high quality Lonsdor brand circuit board". As I kept searching for other key options, I came across a key from Walmart, and it stated that it could not be programmed by Tech stream, but locksmith needed to use Lonsdor K518 (or a couple of other key programmers). Therefore, my guess is that Thinkdiag is behaving similarly to TechStream and can't recognize the key. It looks like I'll need to return the key or pay a locksmith to program the key. That's a bummer. I bought the Thinkdiag precisely to program a key, and unfortunately, this happened.

      @@DIYDaveOK I got a key fob from car and truck remotes. It was a refurbished Lexus key fob, so it should have been a perfect match. I still couldn't make it work with Thinkdiag. I'm going to try renting a programmer from Tom's key. If that doesn't work, then I'll need a locksmith.

    • @DIYDaveOK
      @DIYDaveOK  Рік тому

      @zonykel Dang! I'm so sorry to hear that. No reason at all it shouldn't have worked unless maybe the initial (original) key you're using is somehow not registered in the IMMO correctly or has somehow become corrupted, which admittedly is unlikely if it starts the car... I wish I had some better advice for you!!

    What model of thinkdiag did you used?

  • @BrianUpward

    Will this device work if your current key won't start the car? My immobilizer has come on since swapping to a new battery and I can't start the car now.

    • @DIYDaveOK
      @DIYDaveOK  5 місяців тому

      @@BrianUpward Hmmm... changing the car battery shouldn't affect the immobilizer at all. Only thing I can suspect is that in the process of connecting the new battery a stray voltage spike may have hit the electronics?? Total guess, of course. Do the car's interior lights come on?
      In normal circumstances, the AP200 requires a working key to allow adding an additional one. But what your describing sounds like something has altered the state of the immobilizer if a previously working key now doesn't work. I wish I had more specific advice for you. Nothing else changed in the car other than the battery?

    • @BrianUpward
      @BrianUpward 5 місяців тому

      @@DIYDaveOK I definitely gave a brief explanation. I change the battery in my key fob, not sure if it's related but after that I couldnt start the car. Would crank but no start, starter motor recently replaced. I put in new spark plugs and a new battery. Everything turns on fine inside but it won't start. I finally noticed this green key light flashing and now I'm guessing this is the immobilizer preventing it. It needed a new battery anyways. It's an 06 crv.

    • @DIYDaveOK
      @DIYDaveOK  5 місяців тому

      @@BrianUpward Honda CRV's have a history of sometimes having their immobilizer go wonky after things like a battery change. The battery itself may be weak, stale, or installed backwards, allowing the key to fit the ignition but fail to talk to the immobilizer. I do not have a Honda so I have no first-hand experience, but I have seen and read anecdotal evidence that it is possible to reset the immobilizer.

      Hard to say because many of the European models handle their key programming in a manner that requires dealer intervention. If ThinkDiag offers an IMMO module for BMW the best suggestion I could make would be to give it a try, but I don't know for sure if it will work. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you. Verify this with ThinkDiag to be sure, but I believe they have a promotion that will unlock ALL functions for ALL makes for one year for something like $99. I think the IMMO (key programming module) for one additional car is something like $39.

    • @DIYDaveOK
      @DIYDaveOK  3 роки тому

      The car is absolutely fantastic and, actually, is due for an oil change here shortly. This is easily the best car I've ever owned. I can't say enough good things about it. As far as the manual key goes, I just need to take it to a key shop to have it cut. This spring, I hope to do a video (maybe more than one?) on trans fluid change as it is at 55k miles, and I want to start getting that fluid changed out between now and 60k miles.
