    On the topic of abortion in Texas, anyone else remember the woman who was told that her child would be born without a complete brain, and thus would immediately die a horrific and painful death of suffocation? Only to be told that since *_she_* was not at risk, that an abortion would be illegal. Remember how she spoke in court about her traumatic experience of holding her dying newborn in her arms and could do nothing but cry?
    Pro-life my shiny metal ass.

      A friend of mine was pregnant several years ago. Her 20 week scans showed a massive deformation. Several scans later, she was told that (basically) her baby's insides were growing on the outside. If she chose to continue the pregnancy there was a high likelihood that it would self abort (which is risky for the mother as hemorrhage is a big risk). If the pregnancy came full term, she would have to have a C-section as a natural birth would be damaging to the baby's organs as they are not protected by the rib cage. Then he would need immediate surgery (with a low chance of survival), & repeated surgeries for the rest of his childhood (assuming he survived that long). Keep in mind that surgery on newborns must be done with no antithesia because it is too dangerous at that age.
      Thank God we live in Canada. She chose to spare him the pain & the risk to her health. She decided to end the pregnancy in the safety of a surgery suite where hemorrhage (if it happened) could be dealt with quickly.
      She doesn't regret her decision & she went on to have healthy babies later on.

      @@TheGoddessBast Just fyi, anesthesia is administered to even the youngest babies, including neonates (infants who are 28 days old or younger) and premature babies (infants who are born before their due date). While out of unfortunately and horrifically true that this wasn't always the case, babies have gotten anesthesia for procedures that would indicate a human would need it for 40+ years now.

    14:43 I think people don't realize that Texas' abortion law doesn't only affect abortions - it bans all procedures associated with it. There have been three deaths in the state from the refusal to do a "D&C" or "D&E" on a patient. Those aren't abortions - the procedures are just sometimes used in abortions.
    Texas didn't outlaw abortions - they outlawed life-saving healthcare.

      @Ergosphere2357 Luigi Mangione, a 26 y/o American guy, allegedly shot a healthcare insurance CEO in NYC, in his manifesto he cited the absolute awful state of American healthcare as the reason for the shooting. In America people get denied care by their insurance despite having paid their monthly payments and are in need of life saving care. This is literally how this industry makes profits.
      Luigi escaped NYC on a bus and was eating at a McDonalds in central Pennsylvania where he was recognized by a customer as the CEO shooting suspect and then the employee called 911 and got him arrested.
      Many people saw Luigi as a hero and the McDonalds employee and the customer as the "snitches".
      On a brighter note, since they called 911 and not the NYPD crime stopper tip line, they may not get the $10k reward.
      (Edit to add more details; also note that it’s allegedly since he’s innocent until proven guilty)

      My mom desperately wanted to breastfeed my brother and I because she was told that "breastfeeding is better" and all that stuff. Which, okay, there are some benefits to breastfeeding, but my brother would cry because he was hungry and couldn't get enough to eat.
      My mom eventually gave up breastfeeding and just bottle-fed us. I think there's a part of her that still feels like she "failed" as a mother, but honestly? I'm so, so proud of her. She put her own want to do things the "right way" aside to take care of her children.

      @@eeveearoaceas a breastfeeding enthusiast, if a friend of mine was in your mother's situation with low milk supply and still trying to breastfeed, I would try to help her with advice about how to increase her supply (because I've had that problem and I learned a lot) and encourage her to do mixed feeding (both formula and breastfeeding) and not to give up completely on her own milk if that didn't work, as long as she said she wants to keep trying. It makes me sad that women are told to breastfeed and then left to fend for themselves with no support if they have problems with it. But the worst is when someone has already given up on breastfeeding and is feeding with formula (or just supplementing while trying to increase their supply like I was) and is told by random people to stop that and just breastfeed, as if it was possible, it's just as useful as telling a cis man to just breastfeed, we don't just start producing milk because someone tells us to.

      What a great opportunity to loudly (like they’re all hard of hearing due to age; they hate that) declare, “We can read without bifocal glasses AND our hearing is exceptionally keen!” Then press ALL the buttons, leap out on the next floor, quickly reach back in and press the Close Doors button, and wave as they disappear for a longer elevator ride. Of course, in my imagination this happens near the top of a 30-floor building if they’re wanting to go down, and oppositely if they’re wanting to go up. I have an associate who was treated extremely rudely in an elevator after holding the doors open and kindly pressing the demanded floor. Because they were next to the button panel to hold the doors, they ended up staying right there for the ride. When it stopped only two floors after, the rude people complained about the inconvenience (they weren’t in an urgent hurry, just selfish). They didn’t stop complaining when the new passenger entered the elevator. My associate subtly looked at the man. He returned the look, raised one eyebrow, then pointedly looked at the emergency button. My associate was wearing a puffy coat and carrying some items, so proceeded to shift the items while facing the panel and sneakily pushed that button which halted the elevator. Smirk. It wasn’t visible to the camera, so…

There was one other single male person in the church close to my age (me: 32, him:45), and basically, the whole church, including him, just decided that we would be paired together. Even though I repeatedly said that I wasn't interested, I would get people asking when we were going to "set the date". I love the fact that "Karen" is no longer a gendered word. It was hard to fully ignore the misogyny accusations while it was only used for women displaying that sort of aggressive over-entitled behaviour. But when the same word is used for a man displaying the same behaviour, it's not sexism, it's just calling out that behaviour.

    • @foogod4237
      @foogod4237 2 дні тому

      I've been arguing for this for quite a while. There is absolutely no reason we need a different word for different genders. Men can be called "karen" too. Everybody knows what it means, and if anything it's got the added bonus of potentially pissing them off even more in the process (and irony of ironies, actually pissing them off for feeling misgendered, which is something they're often so happy to do to other people).
      Though I also think we should stop capitalizing the word, too. It's not a proper noun anymore, it's really a descriptive term (just like "jerk" or "asshole"). That means it should be lowercase ("karen") when we're talking about the type of person, and capitalized ("Karen") only when it's that person's actual name...

I hate being in the car for more than like an hour, so when my college campus is an hour drive from my home, it makes it annoying. Worse is that all of my close friends live halfway across the country from me, meaning I either have to take a plane to go see them, or drive 15 hours West, or 24 OR 29 hours East to see them... It's painful

      Floridian that grew up in New York and Massachusetts… public transit sucks in Florida, there’s a bus every hour, and there isn’t much train lines. I don’t have a car so I rely on Uber and Lyft to get around, and get everything I can delivered to my house. I work about a 5 minute drive from work, which is an half hour walk for me since I walk slow 😂.

My mom and her mom always had each other’s spare key so they’d drop by unannounced and if nobody was in, let themselves in to do each other’s dishes! The people who comment from people who think they know best are so frustrating, especially when you suffer from chronic illness/pain. I’ve had pain issues since I was an adolescent, and when I worked retail in college (20s) I was having a rough day, nothing was really working and I was on break, trying to gently stretch to keep myself mobile. My manager, who was in her early 60s and knew I had more than one pain issue, made the comment, “If you’re this bad at your age, how bad will you be once you’re MY age??”
    I just looked at her and said, “Honestly? Probably dead.”
    She sputtered and just stared, before just walking away. Since I’m now in my 40s and am walking with a walker, it’s actually a possibility.

      Uugghhh! Are we all related? Don’t get me started on the outlandish things ordinary people say; I have two full journals of incidents. Make sure you record every consultation with your doctors because I don’t know anyone who hasn’t encountered an absolutely unhinged medical professional. I walked out on, and reported, a neurologist who said my multiple diagnoses from two cardiologists and a cardiothoracic surgeon along with years of test results showing heart failure, mvp with regurgitation, and tachycardia “had to be wrong” because I’m “too young.” He was looking right at my medical records! He argued with me. I also had a physiotherapist (I suffer from chronic pain due to extreme injuries and inflammation, but I was there for new injuries) condescendingly exclaim, “You’re 15, not 50! You’re not even overweight - you can stand up from a squatting position, this is ridiculous!” He hadn’t looked at all my listed injuries. He tore the meniscus in my knee. He didn’t get away with it. I’m so sorry you have all these syndromes and suffering! “Invisible” pain and disorders have their own stigmas and struggles.

    • @fallenking578
      @fallenking578 3 дні тому

      @Bethsabee_Sheba_Newrose I had a cardiologist tell me "exercise is only to lower blood pressure and yours is already low so you are fine not doing any" which is a terrible thing to tell someone with POTS, that's how we deteriorate to the point of needing a wheelchair. He also told me "I don't need to know the position" when I was showing him result of my heart monitor which I take one while seated and one whole standing. So every two readings are in one day, two minutes apart. The first part of POTS, is Postural, or position....it's literally in the name, yet it "didn't matter" to him.

    I had a prof who brought in pieces of his "darkie" collection to show us, and always seemed to know, and announce, when the local Klan chapters had big events about an hour further north of us. I...kind of always wondered how far his "interest" went, and if it was only because of teaching American History or not.

    Jokes on them. My mom helped convince me to go forward with elective sterilization. She said the reason "so you have grandkids" was not good enough. So at 28 years old I had both fillopian tubes completely removed, reducing my risk of ovarian cancer and eliminating the possibility of naturally getting pregnant. 29:37
