    A man, a voice, minimal piano accompaniment. Yet, it sounds huge, floats in the air, hauntingly gorgeous. Lots of people can sing and play the piano, in fact, we have more young virtuosos than ever before who can play just about anything. But the gravitas needed to communicate a song like this, the skills needed to keep that narrative floating in the air with seemingly no support, no strings, is pure artistry. I can’t be more impressed by this.

      So eloquently and beautifully worded. Thank you. 👏

      Pure Thom Yorke.

      More than ever before? You must be like 14 years old. Have you not heard of the 70's? He pales in comparison to most musicians of tha era.

    • @ibassnote
      @ibassnote 5 років тому +38

      Ok, Boomer. You’ve twisted the meaning of my comment so you could vent your deep, anonymous, anger and vitriol out into the world. Let’s go through this in a way you can understand. Thom is NOT a virtuoso, which is my point. Thom, like musicians In the ‘70’s were mostly self-taught and yes, there were a lot of great musicians from that era. There were virtuosos in the 70’s. But at that time it was highly unusual for musicians outside the classical world to graduate from conservatories. Nowadays, MOST professional musicians graduate from some type of higher musical education. I know because I am a professional musician based in New York and I see them pouring out of the schools, all highly trained on their instruments able to play almost any style of music. That did not exist on the scene in the same way before say the 2000’s. Perhaps you feel the need to extol the virtues of the 70’s but there is no need, we all know there were great musicians in EVERY era. That seems obvious enough. But besides, what would be the point of appreciating Thom Yorke only in relation to another eras musicians? I was merely appreciating him for his artistry. Singularly, of and for its own sake. Would it be necessary to compare him to say Bach and other musicians of the 1730’s? He certainly pales to Bach, but why would I ever say that? Perhaps if you commented “He’s good but I still find artist of the ‘70’s to be more compelling”. That seems like an intelligent comment, doesn’t it? That comment remains open for discussion. But beginning a comment with the pedestrian insult of being “14 years old” makes you seem either old and bitter or just sad and angry. Add that you hide behind an alias indicates that you are not strong enough to stand behind your opinions and greatly discredits your thesis.

      (RIP Cooper 10/30/20) The song instantly transported me back to the last week of my father's 4 year battle with lung cancer and the day he died. He was tied of the Dawn Chorus. It was okay and time. I remember asking him that morning if he was scared and he said, "Yes." I cannot listen to that song without choking on tears. I am the only child/daughter of a single father. Oh my gosh stunningly beautiful. Born in 1960 I’ve just turned 61 but I’ll tell you…the past two days I’ve just plunged into all things Thom Yorke (and Radiohead) and I can’t stop listening to Thom’s voice. It has brought me to tears at moments and just moved me. And then there are the live performances that mesmerize me! Thank you for stirring my youthful fragile adventurous soul which I was losing sight of (as the years go by and by the state of humanity right now)
    I remember loving “Creep”. Now there are so many I love. What a voice…it’s magic. I also think that Thom is a very special soul. The band is just lovely…they are funny and down to earth and just decent!!!
    Now I can look forward to maybe seeing them play live in the near future and it will be my first time at one of their concerts!!!

    • @revesmouvants
      @revesmouvants 5 років тому +6

      @Snaakie: i know radiohead always hated performing “creep”, but their acoustic version was amazing! i was fortunate enough to see their “in rainbows” concert in vancouver in 2008 at an open-air venue... it had been treatening rain all night, and when they did “paranoid android” as their last song, the skies truly opened up and it poured like a monsoon. when he sang, “rain down on me”, we were soaked to the bone and utterly ectstatic!! ❤️
      edit: thom’s voice, and radiohead as a whole sounds just as great live as on their albums (or even better?)
      this is a post from someone else who was there. i swear it was a religious experience! 😆
      www.booooooom.com/2008/08/20/radiohead-vancouver-was-epic/
      after, we went to my friends house, played with her cats and rabbits, and watched björk and aphex twin videos in her bed whilst sipping on icelandic vodka until it was time to take the ferry home to vancouver island. it’s an experience i will never forget!
