  • One thinks of mountains in Colorado but much of CO is flat and bare. You can see the mountains in the distance once you get near Denver until then not much to see.

Years ago traveling through western Kansas I saw a cloverleaf off I-70 that turned into gravel. First time for me seeing that.

There's a Twilight Zone story there...

We need about 10 or 20 mil bison roaming around there.

My son walks in a refuge area outside of Denver and sees buffalo there. When I travel through there I always think of being in a covered wagon and how vast it would have seemed.

Oh God, She forgot to mention Kansas. It never ends until you get to the Limon area, 85 gas look south and you can see the tips of the mountains. Then you breathe a sigh of relief... The only place worse is the Oklahoma panhandle. There's a road down the middle of it. It was the dead center of the dust bowl in the 1930's and you can tell... You will finally heading west see "Black Mesa" and at least you have a geographic reference...
Well, the hi line in Montana isn't exactly fun either and that one goes across 2/3rds of Montana all the way to the great lakes for all intents and purposes but there are a few interesting places along the way. Try it sometime in winter when the close the gates at the edge of Kansas because of blowing snow. I was the last car through heading east, thank God, once, and had a cop behind me. We stopped about a hundred miles east or so and over two hours and he said he was like he kept debating on whether he should get both of us off the road at a State Police thing or not but saw I was driving a Subaru and kept moving. He wanted to get home too.
I told him I was watching him also as he had a two wheel drive cruiser and was going to help if he slid off. He at least had a radio. He laughed. But I made it back to Topeka. NOT A FUN DRIVE... Sometime I'll tell you about the tornado stories out there...

I feel the same way. Yeah, mountains. I can breathe. Most of the time through Kansas I am being chased by a storm or one is ahead of me.

It is very boring unless you are going through in a tumbleweed storm. Scary
