@@adamagustus1316 Depends on your definition of "academic". I'd wager that (I)NTxs generally do excel more in the STEM fields, but any softer sciences (including some "crossover" fields where math is involved, but the human experience also plays a central role, like architecture) will certainly benefit a lot from that xNFx "EQ" that (especially young/immature) rationals may be lacking. In terms of "pure" intelligence as it's defined and measured by IQ tests, that correlates most with the N and I (in that order), while T has a very slight edge over F (which flies in the face of the common misconception of all smart people being Ts while all Fs are just irrational simpletons). The F types may just tend to use that intelligence in a more "subjective"/affiliative/anthropocentric manner, as opposed to the more scientific and object-oriented T way, which easily gives the appearance of a less brainy/intellectual individual.

Ti Dominants actually DO love movies, music etc. that relates to them. It's just not the emotional kind. Like ''I really like how this movie shows the flaws of society.'' etc.
Is that a Ti dom thing? Because I thought exactly this how a movie captures the reality of something in today’s society but I thought it’s related to my Fi?!

Interesting I got ENTJ on calypso's test and I answered similarly, but I focus more on acknowledging people's emotions. So I have no idea why I was typed as ENTJ, I'm clearly more Feeling than Thinking.
@@caramelunicorn8023 : or you think your feeling and simply highly observant of their display of emotion however subtle and have created processes to mimicking the appropriate response so that person can then not realise your robotic approach and still be satisfied in your interactions. That requires some suspension of your inner reality to diverting energy to emotions. If you feel drained after emotional interaction you are not based in emotion.
Thank you for labeling/differentiating the Je, Ji, ExxJs, IxxPs, etc. like that. Because before this, when you mentioned all of that, I was totally lost and had no idea what you were talking about. With it, I can understand/see it and use it as a reference to go back to. I can't say I'll remember it without this "Legend" though. xD So what I'm saying is, it'd be great to have it when you can (I guess I can just screenshot this. Heh). By the way, I'm an INFP ("verified" [by myself] through only two online tests).

“Almost Famous”
Sweet coming of age story set in an adventurous time of history and pop culture revolution. I’m very nostalgic about my childhood (I was about 4 at that time with a teenage sister) Fantastic music that made me feel like I was on the road trip right along with them... I did sing along 😀. Who can forget “Blue jean baby... LA laday... seamstress foh the bayand...” yeah I’m an Infp 😏
(likely) Ti dom here: I answered the movie question before you stated the results and i basically thought about the plot, acting, filming, style, etc. but i also didn't formulate my answers objectively as in "the plot is good" but rather " *I* find the plot interesting". So I guess that still sort of agrees with what you described for Ti - focus is on the "impersonal", but still presenting it as a subjective opinion.

This video was so well done!! I’ve never been able to put my finger on exactly how to really tell the difference between Ps and Js, but this video made it super clear!
this is so eye-opening for me. in the past, i would attribute a lot of behaviour to other motives, like "this person is trying to make a point by being super objective or super subjective" or that it was a implicit reflection of their comfort level or whether they liked the people they were talking to. for example, i would've taken the responses to the movie question personally, and assumed they depend mostly on whether the person i was talking to felt close to me and wanted to be open about their personal opinions, and i might have even taken offense if they kept it at the objective level. but now i'm learning through cognitive function theory that that's not the case. its so cool to learn that these differences are actually mostly due to how our cognitive functions are structured. great video and fascinating study, you really seem to have a keen eye for this kind of experimentation.

For me, two INFJ movies:
Blade Runner I(1982): filled with symbology, elitist technology, raw human passion, what is humanity (or not?), plot, characters, Vangelis(!) soundtrack, Roy Batty's(Fe) speech(!), the dystopic future.
Gladiator(2000): Strategy, strength, honor, cunning, bitterness, Marcus Aurelius (INFJ), moroseness, passion, soundtrack, characters, plot, the dystopic past.
As an EJ I skipped the first question too but I connected the second question with the word ethical. My answer would be WHO is on the train tracks. I would be more inclined to save someone I knew or liked than someone I didn't know or disliked.

As an infj , I was thinking about titanic as my favourite. I love that old vibe the dresses and the whole culture that's shown. But I also cry everytime when Jack dies and moe when she throws the blue diamond. It has so much of meaning like it makes me question everything , literally like what is love and emotion and everything. It makes me think so much and sometimes I get overwhelmed for a day or two.
What you said was so relatable. Even for a question like favourite place. I would first mention the culture and architecture and then I would mention how being there felt.
There was a theory going around that perhaps Jack wasn't real and Rose invented him in her head to escape her controlling bf.

I love this! I just submitted my video last week. When I got to the train question I was first intimidated by how long it was visually and all the different facts. I was worried about getting my comprehension right. And I was sort of rushing and skimmed it. The two questions were close together visually so I assumed both were the same question. Like, maybe the first was a lead in for the latter. Or, maybe as you say, I subconsciously considered the second one more important. Fascinating!

I'm an INTP and i would never say that I like a film because it's the only film i can watch a thousand times. Because is the exact opposite, i can watch the film a thousand times because I love it. In my case my two favourite films would be The dark Knight and Inception, because i love how intricate the characters and the plot are, and how much sense it all makes. I also love the fact that being action films the psycological battle is much more important than the physical one. There is a lot of psycological depth and that fascinates me.

I'm an INTJ. This thought ran through my mind - if one knows that it's more ethical to pull the lever, then why would one decide not to pull the lever? I understand the reasons why, but that was my gut reaction.

As an INTJ, I do see both questions, but I answer the second, seeing the first question as redundant (like it is just another way to ask the second question) since its obvious "to me" that my choice would be the one I believe to be most ethical.

I answered the movie question to myself before moving ahead w ur video. I'm an IxxJ and I first talked about how I liked a particular movie because I related to the characters experience and it made me emotional and then started mentioning technical things about the movie (actually they weren't things to support the movie. They were more like, "I like this movie a lot but it has this flaw and it's not that popular etc".) Then I thought of another 2 movies. For all of them I started with what the movie taught me or reminded me and my personal interaction w it and then a tiny evaluation about whether I thought it was objectively a good movie.
One of the questions I like to ask people is "What makes a movie entertaining for you?"
Other people might ask "What kind of movies do you like?" But I found the responses to that not very useful to get to know a person.
Some people want to think deeply, some want to feel deeply, others want to see stimulating things (action/visuals), some want to just chill and not think about their life for a while, so anything that can hold their attention will do etc
We could probably associate the functions with those answers too.
I personally want something that grips me emotionally, that makes me think deeply, that makes me realise something or learn something, something that broadens my perspective. I want strong character development and depth of character. Good and interesting plot.
If it looks good then that's the icing on the cake.
I think then maybe I like movies that stimulate my Fi and Ti most?

I just aswered straight away that I would probably pull the lever and then went on to debate myself bcs the question didn't explain what kind of people I was killing or saving and what would happen to me if I did kill that one person by saving the others?

I answered the first question before you said the results (an IxxP) and I answered the two parts differently like you said other people did.
I consider myself INFP. For the trolley hypothetical, I answered both questions but with different results (I'd pull the lever but I don't necessarily think it's the most ethical thing to do). The thing is, this question is so popular that I've already thought about it many times and heard the opinions of others, which strongly influenced my own. Back in the day, I would've given the opposite answer (more ethical but wouldn't pull the lever). I used to think it was a huge deal that my intervening would lead to this particular persons death when it wasn't their fate; now I have a more FTW approach. As for the movie question, all of my answers were objective; I like the cinematography, the dialogue is written beautifully, amazing soundtrack and acting. The plot wasn't even an instant thought of mine, but obviously that's a huge part of it as well (it's actually my favorite book as well, but I read the novel for plot purposes and I watch the movie for the vision). As for personal connection, ZERO fucks about it. If this means I'm not INFP then I will celebrate (I'd rather not lead with feeling/have feeling dictate my life), but I definitely think I still am 😂
I just found this channel and I have a feeling I'm going to be watching a ton of your videos! Of course where we are right now with these personality types is totally on the edge of science, these specific categorizations, I had no idea how in-depth you could go. Great channel! I just wanted to say that I am an INFJ And, responding to the comments at about 7 minutes in, yes I totally want to change things. But I also change myself all the time, I want to change myself and I actually do change myself all the time! So I just wanted to let you know this outlier. I don't know if that affects your data. I'd love to see your source data if it's open. I'm a software engineer / junior data scientist!
Also, as an INFJ, I totally did not skip the first question! My undergrad is actually philosophy...lol. ethics is super important, and I'm no dummy to neuroscience so of course I know that the first question and the second question are different. You know I wonder just how big your data is. I would hope I'm not the only outlier! Basically the way I try to run my life is as a utilitarian. And I always get J on my briggs.

I'm and ENTP. With my Ti I rather evaluate how movies are "crafted". I HATE when they have no logic, no sense. I hate those movies that althouth they cost hundred of millons of dollars it seemed that the creators didn't take the time to THINK the best way to do the movie. I value movies of Almodovar beacuse he opens up a lot of different questions: Who did it? Who is this woman? Why they didn't run? Who stole the money? Why those characters hate each other? etc... and by the end of the movie ALL OF THE QUESTIONS ARE ANSWERED. He was born with Mercury Retrograde. His movies are like art pieces but I would think they are shit if they didn't make sense. If you did sth that doesn't make sense that means you give a shit what you are doing (for my Ti). That's why it put on my nerves when I hear people saying "it was a good movie, great effects and visuals" and I'm like "I COULDN'T CARE LESS THE VISUALS!!!!!" LMAO.

We had the very same issue in a law ethics/philosophy class several years ago. The "correct" answer (at least in my country) is: You are not allowed to pull the lever unless among the people you would save is somebody the law can not reasonable expect you to abandon like your child. In that case you can even pull the lever to guide the train on a more populated track.

As an intp my answer for the 1st question is that it's better to just sit there doing nothing because i would rather see people die than make a person dead (i don't wanna get involved and make decisions that impact others life) also if i pulled that lever that would mean i am a murderer that intentionally killed someone but i wouldn't be a murderer by seeing 5 people die whom i could've possibly saved

I skipped the first question answer. I tended to look at it as one answer. I would have pulled the lever. Minimize the loss would have been my first thought. I believe to be INFJ.
It’s hard to say that the five people are “worth” more than the one person. But I would pull the lever but try to free the one person
I don't see it as an "ethical question" merely a question of choice, do you save one person or five people, I'd pick saving five given no other choice in the matter and it would be the right choice, this is why I'd probably only answer the second part and ignore the first because it simply doesn't come into the equation.
A better ethical question would be suppose "you" were tied up on the track but had one arm free next to a lever that could redirect the train onto a side track, but there are five people tied onto the side track, would you pull the lever or do nothing and why? What would be more ethical? -ISTJ

I am an INFP. I originally began following because I happen to be secretly in love with my best friend who is an ISFJ.
I have found very few resources regarding our compatibility which isn't surprising given how differently we process information and make decisions.
One of the articles I read did say that we have the potential to balance each other out very well and that's how I feel my BFF and I would be if I ever got the nerve to tell him.

I always think of the trolly question as a hypothetical that has no answer because it seems impossible. I think however I would be like the guy on the show The Good Place and not be able to choose meaning I am still making a choice with indecisiveness.
The movie question is interesting some movies I love but I couldn’t watch them that often I would have to be in the right mood other movies I can watch over and over. I think though it’s how the movie affects me do I feel caught up in it could I place myself in it. They are usually my favorites.

I still don't get the lever question, because its not just ethical to let people die, so why would you be a part of letting them die. Just stop the train or find a way to untie them in time.
my favorite are quirky movies: dirk Gently, stranger things and snatch by guy ritchie. its fun, quick, witty, smart, action, ... the quick smart wit is what I like. Also most of Tarantino and I do like the radicality in Lars von Triers stuff but its often going to much on my emotions so I cant watch those all the time. I like smart action like in spy stories (the americans for e.g., or John Le Carre stuff) or smart thrillers. I avoid everything emotional schmaltzy like hell- romance, love, drama etc. (Fi polr and ENTP)
I think Bryer Schmegelsky was an INFP. I don't know what Kam was, but I think he was introverted since his Walmart coworker said he'd feel uncomfortable unless standing next to his friend Bryer.
The trolly problem itself seems to be a very Fi question. Being an INFJ i would definitely skip to the second question because both questions seem like 2 ways of saying the same thing. The first question is also much more difficult for me to answer and is less interesting to me.
Why are 5 people just hanging on a train track? If it's construction that's not where the train should be going? Are they deaf? Why don't they see it coming?
twfp has that troll problem, that is similar (do nothing and sacrifice people or what can you do... its an open question though, other than here) and there it seems so that action types (Ne + Se dom) answer with action first, the deliberating types with evaluating (Ti, Fi dom), etc. its then a bit different but the problem is also different. But I see when I ask people that its consistent and reliable that an action type, Ne or Se dom, would answer with a suggestion for action (I do this I do that), whereas Fi, Ti dom tells you their reasoning and inner discussion about it and so forth.

I expect that INFP, INTP might skip the action part because they deliberate a lot and have Se polr. And EPs should usually be prone to act with Ne or Se first. I answer with I would act but later I deliberate on it and see how its not a good idea to make it a principle to sacrifice someone for others. Nations dont do that for a good reason, think of terrorism and people trying to use hostages as a mean to pressure something out of the leaders of that nation. this problem had been discussed and usually the ethics on it is to not sacrifice someone when its better for others. Which I can follow. Hence I answer with Ne action, then deliberate Ti and change my mind. (NedomTiaux)

I think that Ne, Se (action) and Fe and Te doms (interfacing) are active with the outer world.

The question itself is unethical. It forces your mind into a box with a binary choice. It is also an extreme and asinine situation, that deserves an extreme and asinine answer. First of all, I definitely wouldn't pull the lever. Likely, I would try to find any other solution. Realistically though, the best choice might be to jump in front of the train. No matter what you do, society will have feelings about it and you'll have to live with those criticisms for the rest of your life despite the fact that you have no responsibility or right to make such a decision.
Also, there are a lot of unanswered questions in the whole setting. Like, who tied these people up to the tracks, who coerced me into this situation and aren't the people conducting the experiment the real problem?
That and if you jumped in front of the train further up the track, even if it killed you, the train would start showing down sooner and might have time to stop.

It’s more ethical to pull the lever to save more lives but... it depends who is tied up on the tracks. Some lives I value more like my son’s for instance... some people I wouldn’t have a problem if the train ran over them... like the current occupant of the White House just sayin’ 😏. Infp

I would throw rocks on the tracks. As intj, I hope everyone inside is safe due to the metal surrounding them. I sure ASF wouldn't be ok with killing anyone over any other person.
Not to be pedantic, but that wouldn't work, and if it did (supposing there was a giant boulder that just happened to he in the perfect position to be rolled onto the tracks in a few seconds), you might derail the train.
@@xynx1211 Derailing the train was the outcome intended. In panic mode, i would rather derail the train depending on lots of variables that i would not have time to assess. But watching the train run persons over and squish their guts all over the place is the main avoidance reason for derailing the train. I guess one persons guts squished is less mess than 5, though.
