I love.....love....love your reaction to this Samaltau video. Your research into the instruments, the folklore of the Kazak peoples during the early 1900's. The 'wailing' that Dimash produces reminds me of suffering and hopelessness.!! I respect your reactions....and I LOVE Dimash .....his humility.....and his TALENT.!!!
Thanks again..for an excellent explaination and review. Now I understand why I felt so spiritual when I heard this song the first time. Your diligent work and research is greatly appreciated...and it is also.very entertaining

Julija, to reinforce your perspective on this performance: Dimash's stage choreographer for his Arnau concert in Kazakhstan said that for Dimash every aspect of the staging had to have symbolic meaning and symbols, nothing he does is random. As for shamanism, when Dimash was going home to spend quarantine, his grandmother wanted to protect him from the evil eye, so she did a ritual purification of the home. His grandmother is the most influential person in Dimash's formative years. She was the one who came to him on the morning of his 2015 victory at the Slavic Bazaar competition. She told him that he didn't need to worry because she'd been given a prophetic dream the night before telling her that he would win the contest. Dimash's father says they consider her the "family doctor". He said her traditions have been handed down through many generations. Thank you for taking so much time and care with this performance. It's worthy of such attention and respect.
@@juli.samsonova-operaclass Thank you! There's a lot along these lines about Dimash's early upbringing that can be found here and there. In pre-Islamic times, it was primarily women who served in the tribal role of spiritual medicine, and I think it likely that Dimash's grandmother is in this tradition. There's a lot we may never know, but what we can find is fascinating. (By the way, at the last note of the chanting part of this song, Dimash literally uses his hand to "throw" the note up into the sky, and he quickly turns his eyes upward to watch the note leave. It's as though the soul has crossed with that note. I think it reinforces your thought that at the end of the song, the singer has passed.)
Please, don't stop giving all the information...I've learned more from you through your first 2 Dimash reactions than I have from hundreds of other reactors! I truly appreciate you and your reactions :) Hugs from Norway :)
Dimash recorded this in his home studio in Kazakhstan. He is undoubtedly the most musically diverse and prolific singer/artist/ performer the world has Ever seen. He will in my opinion go down in history as such. 😊🏴👍
Thankyou for adding those shamanic meanings to Dimash's performance of this beautiful lament. This is the best performance of Samaltau so far and it was done uin his home. Greetings from Colombia.
@@ElsaPatriciaMedina hello, I like his this version of the song very much. But also his performance at the international film festival in China last year was great. Like a mini film.
@@kalamkasbbb9187 I agree. I love both versions. As usual Dimash sang same song differently....he personalises every single performances of his. Both phenomenally great yet different.
Brava, Julija! What a magnificent review and tutorial. A veritable Master Class. I have concluded that although not from the same Turkic background as Dimash, your own Eastern antecedents understand his intentions at some primary cellular level. Never have I heard a more in-depth analysis, not only of a song, but of a singer. Like me, you accept this very young man as totally mature and deliberate in his artistic choices. I am so glad you are back. I have watched 3 or 4 “reaction” videos of Samal Tau, but waited for yours to show me the true understanding. Again, bravissima!
Dimash is his culture ambassador, I love this song so much, is so touching, I am from Taiwan, We have a lot of folk song , similar like this, my father play similar instrument all the time, and we sing together, those day are my best memory, I am 64 now, thanks for your reaction.
I don't have much to add to all the wonderful things that have been said already. Your analysis has deepened and enriched my understanding of this powerful song and I thank you, and also all the commenters who have given us additional information about the song, Kazakh history, shamanic culture, and the instruments. The musicians are amazing too, they were as deeply invested in the song as Dimash himself. Yes Dimash is the Farinelli of our century, and maybe more because of the deep spirituality that makes so many his performances more than just singing. When he sings from the heart he takes us along on a transcendent journey. What an amazing time when such wonders are preserved for all the world to share. Much love from Florida USA.
Wow!!! What a fascinating story of Kazakhstan and its music🙏🙏🙏 Absolutely beautiful 🇰🇿 I love 🤵DIMASH. He is one extremely gifted young man. Scotland 🏴 sends you 💞
This is Dimash's home studio...amazes me that he sings this in the Lotus position...seated, legs crossed. He is and has been an exemplary Ambassador for his nation. There is a lot of history with both Russia and China that played out in his homeland.
He seats "turkish-likely" ("по-турецки"), crossing legs. This is a usual pose for nomadic peoples who were not able to carry furniture with themselves on nomadic hikes. In the traditional dwelling of the Kazakhs - a yurt (round felt tent) - there was no furniture for sitting, they were sitting on the ground in just such a pose.
The other video performance of this song places us in the Great Steppes with a Kazakh yurt village in the background and you hear all the night sounds; the howling wolf, the village dog barking in return, the night breezes blowing through trees, bushes, reeds, the sound of the flowing water, the cries and melodies of the night birds. The young man has been forced into the soldiers life, marched far away from his beloved homeland, away from his loved ones, not knowing if he will ever be able to return. A haunting, powerful and beautiful song! Thanks for your lovely reaction and analysis. California, USA
My dear, it is wonderful to also hear your thoughts on Dimash's music and interpretation. It is not enough for us to be fans of him, but also to know, his life, family and his love for true music, to know the story behind each song that takes our soul. Gratitude for your beautiful reactions
Dimash never sings a song without a very emotional meaning or very powerful message. That is why he always becomes the song, because he is thinking at those moments that the man went through.
I must tell you that I enjoyed so much your explanation of this profound piece of music and performance. I'm a 78 year old teacher/musician and very big Dimash fan. Thank you so much. Blessings and be well.

Such a beautiful spiritual interpretation of this performance... I believe you are exactly right in imagining that Dimash makes no coincidental decisions about his work. When I first listened to this piece, I instinctively heard the animal sounds evoked by the kobyz...geese, dogs barking, horses and cattle, but am so happy to discover other symbolism and ancient connections that I was unaware of until you explained. Thank you so much for deepening my understanding of the storytelling that Dimash gifts us with! You are AMAZING!
Great reaction!!! Clearly you revealed the spirit of the song, and how this spirit is expressed by the talent of this extraordinary singer. Dimash shows the soul of his country so well. This is real world music. This is authentic cultural heritage. And thats the reason because kasakh people are so proud of Dimash. He express his kasakh roots in a way that everybody in any place of this world can receive the message just like he want. Even if you can´t understand a word (even if you are from the caribbean, like me), you can easily go with him in this suffered walking through the soul of a human been. I hope someday to see Dimash singing a Lithuanian folk song (there are beautiful polyfonic pieces), and I am sure your reaction will be great. As always, this reaction was a master class Julija. Thank you very much for that.
Thank you so much!!! Actually the folk traditions in Lithuania are too very strong and there are so many beautiful traditional songs in different dialects.
@@juli.samsonova-operaclass I really like Rasa Serra, for example. She sings beautiful lithuanian folk songs. Some of them are sad and nostalgic, but it's so relaxing to hear that melodies. Can you imagine Dimash singing "Leliumoj"? I'm sure it would be great. :-)
First of all congratulations on your success with your own musical journey. Secondly, never apologise for talking too much & explaining/sharing your knowledge as I love it. This song was recorded in his home studio and felt so intimate to me when I first heard it - like he was personally sharing this story with me. A lot of what you shared, I too understood but then you added more - thank you. I am not a musician but love music so when I discovered Dimash (3+ years ago), I looked into Kazakh history, culture & musical heritage and it is so beautiful, tragic and rich. Thank you for your work and passion in sharing it with us. Plymouth UK 🇬🇧
The song tells about a very sad historical event that took place at the beginning of the Kazaks people .They were almost assimilated by Tatars and Russians in the war. At the end of the war, there are no mens left, only women, old people and childrens. This song tells the sad story of the war. You have a very beautiful heart Thank you for your comments.
Excuse me for my reply. But there are different views in the historical science about the beginning of the Kazakh nation. The most of them have the meaning, that it was in 15. Century. The others, that it was earlier. But in this song we see the situation in 1916 during the first world war...
Just a small correction, "qairan" means sorrow, pity. "Elim" means loved country and homeland. so with "Qairan elim " the writer expressed his reluctant to leave his homeland, missing his family behind.
🌷FIRST, I WANT TO THANK YOU for this excellent analysis. No, it’s not common to find this quality of interpretation on UA-cam. Thousands of reactions to Dimash, but a few with substance. I was reading the other day about the cycles of life in Kazakhstan. Sharing briefly, they have a cycle every 12 years. The first ends at 13 years, second at 25, third at 36... Dimash just started his third cycle. Not sure if that has relation to this song. There’s a lot to learn about this amazing culture, that we feel attracted to figure it out because of DIMASH ❤️ THANK YOU, AGAIN. LOVE WHEN YOUR ITALIAN ESCAPES. HAPPY That I can understand most of it as I speak Spanish and we share a lot in our languages. 🌷PLEASE, DO MORE WORK LIKE THIS🌷
Dimash is a modern minstrel. Within his repertoire, he searches for and performs songs with a deep social / human content to make us reflect on the evils of war, exile and genocide. Thus, for example, in the song composed by him "war and peace" inspired by Leon Tolstoy himself. He rescued a song from a Japanese exile "strong autumn", he tells us about the suffering of a kasajo poet imprisoned and executed in "daididau". And in this Samal Tau, where young people are forced to fight one another's war. and various other topics. Different countries, different stories, a single origin, the horror of war. Dimash is an ambassador of peace, from his art. This Samaltau song gives me chills, deep sadness ... there is a section that is heartbreaking lament It's a thoughtful song greetings from Chile
What a wonderful storyteller you are. It was such an excellent analysis of the music and instruments simply fascinating to listen to. Your voice is beautiful. I can only say this has to be the best reaction I have ever heard on youtube. I look forward to some more reactions. Thank you so much. DKIFC The United Kingdom.
What a fantastic morning with you Julia. A pleasure again to have a cup of coffee outside and feel your passion and love to music, giving us so much insight for this lovely piece of music, where Dimash excels to touch our hearts.
Julia, thank you! I enjoyed your session and wonderful analysis. I know so much more about Dimash’s world, country! You are amazing and I feel your passion and appreciate you sharing ❤️

Here in Latin America we have a very similar Chilean instrument, called PAU DE CHUVA rain stick "bastone della pioggia"... that mimics the sound of rain. I'm Brazilian and I LOVE your videos, each video is a free music lesson for me !! You're the best!!! Continue with your videos please, I’ve never seen anyone with as much knowledge about what talks about(music) on youtube like you. I say goodbye in Portuguese Tchau minha professora
Marcelo, hello! I too know about the "rain stick". I owned one when I lived in Arizona (US). It was a sacred instrument for the Native Americans of the desert tribes. There is a desert plant that has long thin limbs covered in large thorns. These limbs would have their thorns removed, then reversed, and the sharp thorns were pushed into the limbs. The limbs would dry out and turn hollow. With the thorns turned inward, there were then dry beans that were poured inside, and then the limb was plugged. As you tip this limb from end to end, the dry beans "raining" down the thorns in the limb create the sound of rain.
Julija, I ADORE your videos. Your love of music, and your enthusiasm and skill at discussing and explaining songs and music are enticing and luscious! So professional and full of information. You are wonderful to watch.
In Mexico this instrument is called "water stick" since you can imitate several water sounds like river or rain, as well as wind with it. Pre-hispanic and used as a musical instrument in Aztec civilization.
Wáw Julija! What a beautiful introduction in this video; beside being an Opera singer (mezzo soprano) you sound like a music teacher to me, for your explanation, with all the tactic and vision about Kazak'z music. I was so into it when you talked about Kazakistan culture. I must say, you studied your lesson well in order to present this wonderful work. Congratulations! You are the best Julija and you look so pretty. Thanks

Thank you for your wonderful exposition, clarification, interpretation. It's so very deep and from ancient times.. Kazakh history is so fascinating I would love to know more about it. For various reasons I have been studying/researching the history of the lost tribes of Israel who were "lost" in these regions of Asia Minor, and Dimash has brought this area to my attention through his music and his passion for his nation and his land.. Thanks so much for showing us the depth of this music..

Thank you so very much for doing homework before your “ reaction”/ analysis! It is so much more interesting for me, with your preliminary information. Excellent ,
Hi Julija! Your reaction is the best and the most complex I've ever seen. I started to listen to Dimash about three years ago and believe me, I'm still as emotional about his music as when I first heard him. Thanks to Dimash, my high school Russian came back to me! Right now I'm searching for any information about Kazakhstan and nuances of his performances in three languages: Polish, Russian and English. I live in the US for over two decades and now I"m on a mission-to introduce Dimash and his phenomenon to as many people as possible. I can be VERY persistent...Please stay with Dimash and share with us your knowledge and emotions. Thanks!
Another master class from julija. 👍 This time, not only about the musical technique but about the interpretation of music. Before watching this video, I could not relate the 'strange sound' from 'unfamiliar' instrument with Dimash' song. For unmusical person like me, it sounds weird. But now, I can understand it.
Snarky Tart - amazing information. 🙋🏻♀️
Very interesting. Do you remember which interview it was?

I've come back back and re watched this wonderful analysis of this video after a few years and it is still spellbinding to hear you interpret the story in such a deep and spiritual way. You brought me to tears at the end. Thank you so very much. Bravo to Dimash and Brava to you! xoxo👍👏👏👏🩷🩷🩷 from 🇦🇺 (Papá was from Trieste) to 🇮🇹

Please, don't stop giving all the information...I've learned more from you through your first 2 Dimash reactions than I have from hundreds of other reactors! I truly appreciate you and your reactions :) Hugs from Norway :)
Very Honest Comments !! Bravo !! Of Course the analysis was TOP !
Phil Harris I couldn't agree with you more! Thank you !
@@kalamkasbbb9187 I agree. I love both versions. As usual Dimash sang same song differently....he personalises every single performances of his. Both phenomenally great yet different.
Gulnaz Zhanpeissova Spasibo ogromnoe!!!
Thank you so much!!! It was my duty to speak about this performance full of symbolism. Glad you liked it!
Master Class!!!

@@АлександрАбополов wow! how interesting! Thanks for sharing your information, cheers from Vienna!

California here to. 👍🏼
My dear, it is wonderful to also hear your thoughts on Dimash's music and interpretation. It is not enough for us to be fans of him, but also to know, his life, family and his love for true music, to know the story behind each song that takes our soul. Gratitude for your beautiful reactions

So much depth and knowledge, you are an amazing soul. Thank you
Dimash never sings a song without a very emotional meaning or very powerful message. That is why he always becomes the song, because he is thinking at those moments that the man went through.
very beautiful and interesting explanation, thank you
I must tell you that I enjoyed so much your explanation of this profound piece of music and performance. I'm a 78 year old teacher/musician and very big Dimash fan. Thank you so much. Blessings and be well.

Incomparabile...
Thank you for your in-depth feelings and emotions about this song. Dimash performance of this song is to be treasured.
@B E Y B A R S That's your perspective. Other people have their own perspective.
Thanks a lot Julija giving such nice introduction for Kazakh culture, love you!
This Samaltau song gives me chills, deep sadness ... there is a section that is heartbreaking lament
It's a thoughtful song
greetings from Chile
Great words full of deep understanding of life and high appriciating the Art of Dimash. Thank you!

What a fantastic morning with you Julia. A pleasure again to have a cup of coffee outside and feel your passion and love to music, giving us so much insight for this lovely piece of music, where Dimash excels to touch our hearts.
Super!!!!

I say goodbye in Portuguese
Tchau minha professora
Uau! Você é brasileiro? Eu também amo demais do Dimash!

This time, not only about the musical technique but about the interpretation of music. Before watching this video, I could not relate the 'strange sound' from 'unfamiliar' instrument with Dimash' song. For unmusical person like me, it sounds weird. But now, I can understand it.
Thank u and good luck. From Indonesia. 😊
