    I am 14 years and I fully understand your view. I find it horrible that people are attacking Cubehead for his course, especially when they have the choice whether to buy it or not. If they think it is too expensive, they can just not buy it, instead of criticising and hating on Cubehead for it. The fact that courses like this are available is fantastic, and we need to be grateful of the fact that there are both free and paid information on the internet, and it is our choices which one to choose. I feed so bad for Cubehead, but I think he should ignore the unnecessary hate and carry doing what he loves, whether it is making content on UA-cam or making teaching supplies for other people.

      But also you need to understand that some people that are like 8-12 years old were waiting so long and dreaming for cubehead to launch his "secret project" and then when cubehead launched the project, they got very disappointed because it costs big money and some families especially in poor countries can't afford that much money. So that means that those children are left with nothing after months of effortless waiting.

      @@ElijasCubing This is definitely true, and I completely understand that fact that some children are unable to afford these courses. However, I think that the amount of hate that Cubehead is receiving is unnecessary, as there are also many other resources that provide valuable information that are either free or cheaper. I do agree that some children will be disappointed if the course is out of their price range, but the backlash on Cubehead is unacceptable.

      @FlippedEdge I agree to you, so what I think cubehead should have been done is to tell that it will cost money, so people don't dissapoint and start saving money earlier to be able to afford it.

    • @astroboy314
      @astroboy314 8 днів тому

      Agree 100%. If you don't want it and don't like that it costs money, don't buy it! (Disclaimer: I am a middle aged guy who has a good job and doesn't spend much money on things... I can afford $90 for stuff I want - I have spent over a thousand dollars on cubes, easily. I bought the course, and although the cost may be a little high, I have no regrets as I love the organization of the course and have no problems supporting Cubehead.)

    • @FlippedEdge
      @FlippedEdge 8 днів тому +2

      @astroboy314 Really valid point, because children like me have to ask our parents, and of course they would be reluctant on spending a lot of money on Rubik's cubes. Older people have the choice for themselves on what they want to buy, and so children who want it would not be able to buy the course. However, once again, this doesn't justify the hate Cubehead received.

    Another good analogy would be coding, which you can find a lot about online, but you can pay for the convenience of a structured course

  • @mangocuber

    We should "debate" this on AWIC. I'm not a big fan of courses. But, I can see why they're appealing and why someone would pay for one. Anyway, I think it would be cool to discuss the idea of courses and why we may be against or for it. (this would be a conversation on courses as a whole and not just a specific one)

    The video definitely went over the top attacking Cubehead, but it also a had a good point which was to encourage people to make more youtube videos sharing their expertise. Like if you learn something about cubing, but had a hard time finding all the information, why not make a video afterwards so that the next person searching for that info can have an easier time?

    • @Speedcubenz

      That’s a very valid point to make and I don’t have a problem with it on the surface, but the way it was made was totally uncalled for. Thanks for watching!

  • @StretfordBear

    I completely missed the video drama! But Cubehead has always come across as a genuine guy who loves the community. And the cost would be not only because he's put his cubing knowledge in to the course, but also his programming knowledge. He's put a lot of time and effort into it, and he deserves to be recompensed for that. And there are always alternatives if you don't want to/can't afford the course.
    Ps totally with you on writing things down/printing them out. My ND brain struggles with video tutorials too

  • @curiousNic

    Couldn't agree more! The backlash against Cubehead and others is completely unfounded, especially as Cubehad also made some great educational content for free. I am very grateful for courses that offer a clear, step-by-step learning path and provide only the relevant information I need. I happily pay for that. Instead of wasting hours searching for scattered resources, I can spend that precious time practicing, which is priceless for an adult with a busy life like me. Without Jay's course and help when I started cubing and now Cubeheads pack, I would still struggle to become a decent senior cuber. Expecting everything to be free without considering the effort behind it is damaging and has negative consequences we see in many areas.

      @@ElijasCubing I understand the disappointment, but just because some expected it to be free doesn’t justify attacking him. And they are not left with nothing when the majority of his and other cubers content is still free. Cubehead spent years providing everything at no cost, and this project is simply an additional option. At some point, everyone has to learn that most things in life *do* cost money. That doesn’t mean free resources will disappear, but it’s unfair to criticize someone for putting time and effort into something and choosing to charge for it.

    • @ElijasCubing

    I removed the vid because it was definitely formulated in a terrible way. I didn't have an issue with him charging, i disliked the Terms and Conditions knowing the target audience is very young, which he changed immediately. My only issue with the charging aspect was with Antonie as he actually removed all his videos that were previously up on YT for free. But i muddied the water with the way i put it all together.
    Totally regret the way i made the video which i mentioned in the apology video. NO excuse.

    well said, one could also argue that people are paying him for the time he put into sorting and streamlining the information that would otherwise take time to compile. Which time to some is worth money
    also yes, consumer has the right to buy or not buy, when's the last time you see someone getting mad at th cashier at a local grocery store because the egg isnow 50% more expensive than it was 10 years ago?

    There was lots of criticisms when Tymon and the cubicle came up with a course too… Yeah I get that lots of cubers are young kids with no spending power whatsoever, but hey no need to be salty about a course you can’t afford… Or for the slightly more grown ups commenting: those cubers gotta earn a living too.
    Oh wow, I didn’t know there was such a video, I saw the title and thought it was about the video cubehead made that touched on his course and all the negative comments he got. He sure didn’t mention the video or did give a hint of it. He handled it really elegantly for sure. I got his course the moment I saw his announcement video, which wasn’t all that soon… But I have order #16, which both did and did not surprise me because of said purchasing power of his audience.

    It’s nice that cubehead is diversifying his income. I agree with most of your points. But if the information offered in his course can be found completely for free, then it has no value. I’m not saying the information can be found for free, I haven’t really looked into it. I’m just saying that if Cubehead is going to charge for something that can be found for free, that seems predatory to me.

    • @kuroneko9270

      The thing is that for online courses I don't think you're paying just for the information. You're paying for the convenience of having a structured learning system and curated resources. Some people enjoy the process of compiling and personalizing that information, and so this course wouldn't be good value for their money. Other people are willing to pay that price so that all they can follow and learn from a system curated by knowledgeable and experienced people.
