(Just checked the old Tornado 3 promo stuff, and they did it with that, too- "Pioneer" was fully specced, while "flagship" was a Pioneer, but WITHOUT maglev. Bizarre marketting, to make a cheaper, lower-spec product SOUND like its the top of the range. They DON'T want to sell their more expensive/high spec models?!)

No, repelling edge magnets isn't standard, with balllcore. Most ballcore cubes only have corner/core magnets, with no edge/core magnets, at all. Then there's been a handful of cubes that have repelling edge magnets (can't name them, off the top of my head, but they always advertise that feature), and a few others, which have a "20 magnet ballcore", where it has edge to core magnets, but attracting, not repelling. So "ballcore" = 16 (internal) magnets, total; 8 corner magnets + matching 8 magnets in the core. "Repelling edge" = 28 internal mags, total; 8 corner mags + 12 edge mags + STILL only 8 mags in the core. And "20 magnet ballcore" = 40 internal mags, total; 8 corner mags+ 12 mags + 20 matching mags in the core. Thats my understanding of the weird, confusing ballcore/edge magnet situation, at least. But I have 4 or 5 ball-core cubes (tv3, ys3m, rs3m, super Rs3m, and some other Moyu), none with any edge/core magnets, repelling or otherwise. If the manufacturers bother with edge/core magnets, they'll usually advertise the hell out of it, so you can't miss it.

11:33 I'm an all-rounder who does like megaminx quite a bit. I don't compete a lot, only at one venue, every 1-2 seasons or so, by the same organisers. Adding FTO has hurt schedules/rounds. Round progression from first round to finals became significantly harder once FTO was added. My second comp (without FTO) had top 20 make megaminx finals, my third comp became top 12 (it got changed just before the comp to top 8, but thats down to reg numbers, not FTO). Schedules were nearly identical, only swapping Pyraminx for Clock and adding FTO, as well as round progression. Would round progression have been more lenient without FTO? It's likely, but could also be attributed to other things.

See the thing I like about corner to come magnet is where the leverage point is compared with the magnets position. You don’t have to use as much force to turn but you can still feel the stability of stronger magnets. Where with edge to corner magnets mean you have to use more force to break the magnetic field for starting a turn. So it feels like you have to turn with more force. So a cube with a ball core can use weaker edge magnets and still feel stable.

the best thing would be to keep the tips for grip but not let them move. like they are attached to the cube but they cant spin, making the only actual turns meaningful and the tips impossible to move. kinda like a tetraminx but with the tips, but basically unusable tips 😭

my hot take, adjustable magnets are not really a good feature because a lot of people wont change them from the default setting they come with, and those who do will change them once and never do it again. if magnet strength is enough of a dealbreaker for you in a cube then just get a cube with different strength magnets, or add or change them yourself

Those adjustable magnets look like the wrm 2021 magnets tbh. but now that I think about it, the cube looks like a tornado v3/v4 cuz the piece design look vaguely familiar ( correct me if I'm wrong )

As a pyraminx main (around 2.5) I think we have to keep the tips. Without tips I would average about 2 or sub 2 and I am friends with a few good pyra mains that could probably get EASY sub 0.9 averages on pyra

Even though I have never had any interest in FTO, all of my local comps have held it as an unofficial event and so many people compete that I feel it would be a disservice to not give them the opportunity to have their results official recorded
