Husqvarna vs Stihl - Forestry Helmet Debate!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 сер 2024
- I love Stihl and have always been a huge fan, but their basic forestry helmet doesn't cut it. I would definitely recommend the Husqvarna model--all day long. If they were the same price, I'd still recommend the Husqvarna helmet!
Here are the two featured, if you want to check them out.

Great comparison, highlighting both the niggles as well as the plus features. I’ve had both Husky & Stihl ground helmets and the one thing I hate, is that you have to use two hands to close the Stihl defenders. Whereas you only need one hand to close the Husky defender. Basically, you have to either put the saw down or hook it and then deal with the Stihl defenders, as opposed to being able to continue to hold the saw and close the Husky defenders with your free hand.
All day comfort - I’d say they were about the same in cold weather. The Huskys are better vented for hotter weather. But oh my, the need to use both hands-defenders with the Stihl, is a deal breaker. The only reason I’ve used the Stihl, is that someone bought me one.
Great comparison, thank you.
Appreciate the insight. I am building my Tree-cutting equipment and tools. Thank you!
Thanks for the video! This was the deciding factor on which helmet to get. There are so many helmets out there and a lot of them actually have bad reviews so this was very helpful.
New Subr here. Great video and great comments! Very well done!
I've been working in the woods for years with never having used a safety helmet. This last fall, i got binged in the head once and another time right on the end of my nose!! It's time to review my safety habits....
Thanks again for the great review!
Great video, I own the Stihl helmet and have zero complaints. It literally saved me a trip to the ICU 2 times! I would highly recommend it.
I think it might be helpful if you were more specific with the Stihl helmet model in your video. You have it listed and refer to it as the "Forestry" model but on the helmet in your video it says "Stihl Woodcutter". The Stihl Woodcutter helmet comes in the Stihl "Woodcutter Kit", the entire kit retails for around $150 and this kit comes with Woodcutter chaps (black, 6-ply), Woodcutter helmet system, protective eyewear, tool bag, luggage tag and carrying bag. Who sold you the helmet only for $120? Currently Stihl's most expensive helmet is the ADVANCE X-VENT Helmet System which retails for around $94, their next level down is the "Pro Mark™ Helmet System" which retails for around $74. I think Stihl packs a cheap helmet into this homeowners kit.
Your review offers valuable information into helmet construction and quality but you are way off the price point of the Stihl helmet.
Does the Husq helmet have vents in the top?
Very informatve and the price difference caught my eye. I should have already purchased a safety helmet and chaps but now they're on my list. Thanks for your point of view and great review. Have a fine week. 👍🏽🙂
Can you install a chin strap on the husky? I was going to pick up a universal 4 point chin strap and mcgiver it on unless there are slots meant for it
Purchased the Husqvarna forestry helmet on your video comparison, excellent price, excellent value. Thank you for your channel.
Do either come with a chinstrap and which one do you like better? Good video.
Do you think I could mount my Milwaukee red lithium battery headlamp on the Husqvarna helmet? Would the face shield clear it? We had some storms the other night at 3 am and the headlamp was essential while helping clear some trees down. Thanks
My Oregon helmet has a long screen like the Stihl, but with a visor and coarser mesh like the Husqvarna, but stiffer than the Husqvarna. It has a ratchet and better suspension. You wouldn’t like the tension of the ear cups on and off, I just lift them back. It’s also yellow and is closer in price to the Husqvarna. I actually put wireless 3m work tunes on the wire arms, haven’t used them yet, but if I were doing a lot of easier bucking at home I might, also If I needed to hear an alert or call in an emergency, I could have it announce callers and decide to stop saw and answer or not. As it was, I felt the vibrations from my phone in my pocket and I’d have to check who it was if I was expecting a call about something important.
Re checked, It’s less than the husqvarna for the one I chose. I wanted the wire arms to match the work tunes. The Oregon pro is priced like the Husky and is orange.
What model number is that husky helmet? Your link goes to the one that's over $100 but I thought you said that one was about $50. There are two or three others around $50 or a bit more.
Thanks. Glad to get this info!
@TheDurbinCompound I'm having trouble installing the top black visor part the clips on top the mesh visor do you have any tips?
Me too, other than throwing it across the street did you make it work?
For anyone searching...That stihl helmet is $66 at your local Ace hardware or stihl dealer right now(6/1/24). They are the same price point. I bought that stihl years ago with ratcheting suspension and it has been great, I love it. The face shield is longer, yes the muffs snap in hard but are positive and keep noise out while moving. I recently needed a second helmet and chaps and cheaped out with the "Forester" brand basic helmet. It sucks, the muffs suck, don't stay up, even harder to snap onto your ear, and the visor doesn't stay up or down properly and is too short and you get hit in the neck with flying debris. I should have bought another Stihl.
I just bought my first chainsaw stihl 260 and I want to get chaps gloves muffs helmet but I did notice they are more expensive then huskavarna.
Can you attach sun protection for the back of the neck on those helmets
You’ll be able to drill holes and rivet the neck protector into any helmet
Husqvarna helmets already have a provision to attach that sun protection. Some of their helmets include the rain shield in the box, some do not.
Nice comparison. I would agree that the Stihl is overpriced. However I have a Husqvarna Technical Forest Helmet that has a similar looking design for the muffs and the muffs fall off sometimes when I adjust them or bump them. It started slowly but not often enough for me to take it in under warranty (1 year). I thought I was not doing something right. But now after nearly 3 years of cutting a cord or two of firewood each year and occasional tree felling, the muffs fall off even more frequently. This is very annoying. There is a parts kit one can purchase but I hate to spend more good money after bad especially if it's the same design. So if you get one of these and if anytime before the warranty expires the muffs seem to detach unexpectedly, make sure to get it in for warranty repair. Have you heard of this problem?
Excellent explaining the pros and cons of both of these helments, thanks! Remember, God loves you!
After watching your video I purchased the Husqvarna model. I really like it but the "IKEA type" of picture instructions for assembly were a confusing mess. I searched on UA-cam and found a short video on the assembly of the helmet. Then it took only 5 minutes to completely assemble and adjust. Thanks for your comparison video. It made my mind up and saved me a lot of money.
I’m glad! That’s what the channel is all about!
@@TheDurbinCompound Can you install a chin strap on the husky? I was going to pick up a universal 4 point chin strap and mcgiver it on unless there are slots meant for it
For what it’s worth I don’t have experience with the Husky helmet, however the suspension system I do. Kinda funny but I’m an underground coal miner with 10+ years experience. The hardhat of choice for us is a brand called “low pro”. Here’s the cool part. The Husky liner slides right in and fits perfectly. Who discovered it remains a mystery lol. But you won’t find a miner wearing a low pro without the Husky liner.
That’s cool! I do find the husky liner to be a lot more comfortable than the Stihl version!
TheDurbinCompound yep. The cloth liner really start to stink after you wear them everyday. And believe me it’s pointless to wash them
That makes a good point! Funny how many people come to the same conclusions with stuff in completely different trades!
Nice review. Helped me make the decision! Husky it is!
can u review the TR Industrial TR88011 ?
My opinion you should talk about the bracket that holds his shield if it's made out of plastic because they seem to break all the time.
yes!!
what abut Chainsaw Chap Test
?
Not interested in ruining a set. There are so many videos of people doing it
Hey. What types of helmets are you presenting? This is not husqvarna technical...
Great vid brother! Getting the hus now!
Do the muffs flip back and store out of the way on the helmet?? Asking about the husky one.
Yes they do
Lo más importante faltó...la cantidad de decibeles que reduce .. frente a una motosierra... ojalá alguien que sepa me responda porfavor... saludos.
I've noticed TR industries safety helmet at 27.00 is same as all other safety helmets with much higher price.
Great vid and info.
Agreed, Husqvarna PPE and Stihl chainsaws.
I love my husqvarna helmet. I actually just ordered the 120$ technical husqvarna helmet too. Have you had any experience with the more expensive husqvarna?
I have not! I have thought about investing in the more expensive stuff though
@@TheDurbinCompound it’s not too terribly priced. I think 129.99 plus tax. I like this husqvarna helmet so much I figured I would like their top shelf one too. We shall see. It’s on back order so I’m still waiting.
I own one. It's much more comfortable than most other helmets I've used. My only gripe is that the ear protection won't stay attached. After a few light uses, it popped of when I tried to flip the hearing protection up to have a conversation. I popped it back in place, but it would pop off almost every time I moved. I complained to Husqvarna, and they sent replacement hearing protection to my local dealer.
I used my old helmet for months, then pulled out the new one. It worked for about 4 or 5 days of cutting, then that one popped off. I was now out of warranty, but the helmet was so comfortable that I called Husqvarna to ask if they had fixed the problem, thinking if they had, I would order a new one and save the first one for hot weather use (when I wear ear plugs). To my surprise, the offered to send me a whole new helmet. I used the new one off and on over the course of a few weeks, totaling 5 or 6 days (4 to 8 hours per day), when one of the ear pieces popped off. In nosing around back then, I found that my problem was a fairly common one. Many people had no problem, but as soon as one popped off once, you just could not count on it to stay.
I still really want to like this helmet - it's that comfortable, but I need one where the hearing protection is reliable. My experience was 2-3+ years ago, so it's possible they have fixed the design since then.
Great vid!
ok, how about the TR brand helmet about $27 on amazon. it def not as good as this name brand but sometimes i felt, it just a helmet, i really dnt want pay that much.
It looks like cheap plastic, and also check the Amazon reviews. One convincing one by Quinnsammi said the helmet would break upon impacting a tree limb.

✌️ than you bro I🏃to buy one huskqvarna,
What model is the Husqvarna helmet? Classic or functional?
Classic
I appreciate your insights.
Where I live Stihl and Husky dominate.
I was considering building my own system with a safety helmet since I want my rig to be more versatile, but for $60-$80 the Husky seems like a good setup.
Cheers!
Weekend warrior as well and I went with the Husqvarna from TSC because of similar performance and a savings of about $25.00. SF from a grunt, late 70's.
I like both brands but the Stihl is way over priced for what it offers in this hat I can buy two of the Husqvarna hats for the price of one of the Stihl and have a little better protection and good review
Fine mesh and coarse mesh
$75 for the stihl one if you go to their web page
Thanks for the review bro, helped my decision
Appreciate your comment! Happy cutting!
That's true too,I just really like the look of the Stihl alot better
Hows the ventilation on the Husq helmet?
The think it’s pretty darn good. It sits off your head a bit so it’s really a non issue for me
TheDurbinCompound how do you get your ear muffs to move like that on the stihl helmet?
I found this video after i returned the Stihl helmet, had the same issues, picked up the Husk @ TSC $50 wear a bandanna for sweating strap issues.
There is ratchet style for the Stihl
I know what you mean I do have two Husqvarna helmet One with a ratchet strap like a welding helmet and one without love the ratchet strap with the knob have a great day God bless
The stihl 1 is only £34 on amazon
Had to give you a view and a like not much in the chainsaws I have the Milwaukee M18. Cheers with a beer
Do you like the M18 saw? I’m super skeptical about it!
@@TheDurbinCompound I've had mine for a year. First chainsaw. I just started attempting to do some bigger stuff with the 12.0 high draw battery. With cutting somewhat frozen wood. 12 - 16 inch rounds I get about 6 cuts out of one battery. I will be looking into a STIHL gas chainsaw. I just got a wood stove and now am trying to take down any viable blow downs. I gave the chain teeth a few swipes with the file last attempt. Not much experience here with saws. Could be me.
@@TheDurbinCompound It's about the equivalent of a decent 40cc gas chainsaw. It will never replace my larger saws, but it sure is handy for jobs in its size range. The quiet is a bonus. I have felled 12" hardwoods with it. It worked for that, but just like a 40cc gas saw, you'll want a sharp chain and a bit of patience for that type of work.
Thanks for the comparison. hope Stihl will improve the helmet for the price . ill look at trading my stihl in for the Husqvarna.
Is the Husky helmet vented?
Thank you for your review from Russia 😉
It’s $95 now 😭
thanks im gonna buy Husqvarna
That Stihl is overpriced. Both are relatively nasty base models I would not consider because I've tried and used several. If you just have to go with the minimum protective features, it should not cost more than the cheaper option shown here - and it's probably fairly good for its price.
Wire mesh visors are not not transparent enough or acceptable for actual work nor do they actually offer much protection from more than chips. There are better options for not that much more - including the Stihl product range - with a more comfortable interior, better hard hat design and/or etched sheet metal visor. If you wanted to include BT connectivity, Stihl becomes very affordable in comparison and Husqvarna is a bit more expensive option. At least by EU pricing.
Stihl master race😂
😂there ear deffenders not ear muffs😂😂 muffs are what girls use to keep there ears warm
Fair enough 😂
@@TheDurbinCompound easy mistake 😉
I worked for Asplund and Prefer Husqy saws and equipment generally. Often the same results, Husqvarna equipment works just as good or better than Stihl, cheaper and practical.
YEAH get helmet, steel toe boots, gloves, and logger's pants. DO NOT CUT ANY TREE'S in jeans, short's, light khaki pant's.USE ONLY LOGGER'S PANT'S. one fault with a chainsaw it can be dangerous. AND don't go into the forest with out a First aid kit and water. Buy the best one for your money on the kit. BE SAFE NOT STUPID.
