Or perhaps it’s the other way around, where the Helmet allows goblin slayer to put on a persona to help him kill all the goblin and letting him feel some sorta emotion. Without the Helm he’s the broken kid from his village
The most cutting remarks are those that are true. A boy loses his family and village to bandits (goblins), finds an old wise creature to train him and master the skills he needs to get revenge, saves the girl, and along the way he gains friends and allies that help him and encourage. Sounds like a standard fantasy story right up until its deconstructed relentlessly and thoroughly.
Still makes too much sense. Also I think he did it because he knows that priestess is very uncomfortable with the guy, and so pretended to not understand what is going on and made sure that the guy wouldnt do it again
@@brennabrodbeck5183 That...oddly makes sense. Like, why would he act so differently without his helmet (unless his helmet is literally changing how he sounds and what he says), why would he act like the whole dream thing with Sword Maiden was about dream goblins when he said nothing of the sort and why would he be so quiet at the end?
The helmet is what separates the traumatized, obsessive, emotionally stunted child stuck in the past "Goblin Slayer" from the traumatized, obsessive, emotionally stunted man-child, psychopath "GAAAAWWWBLIN SLAYER!!".

Somehow the idea that GS assumes an alter ego in his armor as a coping mechanism is way more sad to me than the canon GS constant state of rage and regret. This GS can barely keep himself together emotionally
Next episode is gonna be painful. Think about it, farm girl is the entire focus for the last arc, just what kinda horror does he see from behind his sewer grate helmet?
This actually makes a lot of sense considering in one of the final episodes, they literally have him go inside the guild without armor and no one recognized him. In the original series he was mostly quiet inside and outside the helmet, but if this series keeps the coping then it fits. Cause when he is wearing his armor in the guild all he sounds like is a deranged happy goblin slayer, but since he is really quiet without his armor most people would not expect the personality difference.
it seems like he's always very quiet without his armor. given that the thief had to *strike* him for days to even get reactions out of him. the armor just gives him safety. that feeling of "nobody can see how i really feel right now", so he's loud and crazy because *its himself!* he's happy! he's killing goblins! its what he does! *but he just cant handle opening up*, part of the reason he always has armor on...man this series makes me think a lot more than original gs
The fact that every time we see Priestess sleeping in the abridged series, she talks in her sleep about goblins, has some rather dark implications. It implies that she is having dreams about goblins, possibly every night. Given her experiences, it is not unlikely that they are nightmares.
So apparently devoting your entire existence to murder in response to an event so traumatic it destroyed your entire life _isn’t_ good for your mental health.
The next time my gaming group switches to a fantasy setting, I'm creating a half-elf psychiatric therapist. Now I just need to convince the other players to go with it (say, a human career counselor, a dwarven life coach, and an elven pharmacologist) and I'll have a merry band of adventuring mental health professionals, roaming the land in search of bad guys who need to resolve their traumas, work through their deep-seated anger issues, receive proper medication for their crippling depression, and seek stable long-term job prospects. Ultimate goal: stop the world-ending plots of the evil overlord by convincing him to become an economic analyst or a financial planner.
I appreciate that Goblin Slayer pointed out the ethical flaw in the Sword Maiden's plan. Her PTSD is certainly a serious issue, and that makes her a sympathetic character, but by summoning Goblin Slayer like she did, she wanted to use their mutual trauma to weasel into a relationship with him, all for her selfish desire to heal herself. She's more enamored with the idea of Goblin Slayer than the man himself. Goblin Slayer has every right to be upset with this manipulation, especially since he cares more for protecting small villages that have no one to turn to than big cities with the resources to handle problems like this. If the Sword Maiden had simply been forthright with Goblin Slayer, he'd... well, he still wouldn't want to be in a relationship, but he'd be more sympathetic and he be willing to at least talk about their problems. That would have been more constructive and healthy for both of them. Of course, the Sword Maiden has her own reasons for the deception (she's gotta put on a strong front and act as a "maiden' for her goddess, not relying on someone for emotional support), but that doesn't make her actions right. Really, the Sword Maiden and Goblin Slayer can be analyzed in-depth as characters, examining how their mutual methods of coping with trauma (austere stoicism and endless revenge respectively) are unhealthy and self-destructive, and I feel like this abridge series does a better job of that than the original series did. Wonderful work all around!
Couldn't have said it better myself. The whole series has been kick-ass, but the deconstruction of sword maiden and her "holy" virtues this episode was fantastic. In the original, I felt happy for her, not even noticing the flaws that were pointed out here. Watching this episode, goblin slayer's speech sent chills down my spine. Everything he said was true. Especially the part about priestess. She could be so much more than the sword maiden, and him digging into her about it was just perfect. Far better impact than the original. Which is really saying something. I loved this scene with all my heart in the original.
I believe there is a bigger reason than just she wants Goblin Slayer, largely the cult she destroyed knew about her PTSD and purposely used goblins to slowly take the town over, however in this world Goblins are seen as insignificant creatures so there wouldn’t be any justifiable reason for people to throw a large amount of resources to deal with them and in the water town they are a very large problem, the second solution would be then to contract adventurers however that leads to the same situation with Priestess’ original party being fully unprepared since only beginning adventurers would take the job since again Goblins are seen as a weak creature and easy to deal with, likewise Sword Maiden needed to keep peace and order to warn everyone and bring large attention to the goblins would cause a massive panic which the cult wanted. So the reality is Sword Maiden wanted to prevent more casualties of unprepared adventurers, then also contacting a specialist such as goblin slayer to deal with the situation. In a spin off manga sword maiden even mentions this to the high king where a large tower appeared the king said he can’t deal with it as he has to use all available resources against the demon Kings army, Sword Maiden somewhat sasses him about this since they are friends/past party members. All in all Sword Maiden made the right call to call goblin slayer since he would be the only Silver Ranked adventurer willing to take the job and be fully thorough about it.

Some of the higher quality Abridged series tend to either be on par or surpass the original look at the ones who surpassed the originals like DragonBall Z abridged Sword Art Online abridged (most definitely) Yu-gi-oh abridged (at least the later half of the abridged) Hellsing Abridged And even Fate Unlimited Blade Works abridged (by ProjectMouthWash) And Schmuck Squad's Seven Deadly Sins They're by far the perfect examples of abridges that goes the extra mile and make some scenes if not all of the emotional scenes have a stronger impact and a stronger character arc all while staying true to what an abridged series is, a non-profit fanbase parody. And Goblin Slayer while over the top and DEFINITELY overexaggerated, they make things work and still stay true to the narrative and respectful to the original. It can definitely go up there as one of those Abridged parodies so good, that you can consider it an alternate reality where Goblin Slayer is more of a deranged feral loud madman rather than a silent stoic broken man
I feel like the Priestess asking her deity "Hey, it's me, ya girl. I need some protection thx." is super relatable for people who play DnD. Halfway through the campaign you are either extra friendly with your deity or extra bitter.
Also there's the fact that halfway though a campaign pretty much every cleric that tries to roleplay incantations no matter how dedicated they are to it either A: runs out of new ideas for incantations, or B: used the same incantations over and over until they got sick of saying it.

Just saw a panel where goblin slayer went into a room and all I could hear in my head was lizard priest going... "Oh no he's trapped! He will die in there."
@David McConville Saw a panel with Sean Schemmel(Goku), where they wanted him to do the "muffin button" line. He did it but with his King Kai voice. Supposedly a lot of VAs' contracts state they can't voice characters from other shows with the same name, and he tried playing it off as efficiently as possible to keep the panel going. I don't know how true that is, it's just what I've read once or twice.
wow, the writing for this is really in-depth and really multifaceted. it touches on everything the anime did not and even goes into the psyche of the sword maiden. how the characters are people in their own right and shows that they have aspirations and dreams of their own that they want to achieve. it also shows the problems of being a hero, like when archer wanted to fight a beholder and keep the loot only to have to lose it to save everyone. i think this quote really brings to light the beauty and complex intricacies that the writers did for it, "GAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWBLINS"

In the scene where Goblin Slayer is condemning the Sword Maiden and says the priestess could be so much more than "this", while there's obviously the parallel to ending up like the Sword Maiden, her idol, I think he's also referring to himself and the Sword Maiden in a collective sense. A boy loses his family and village to bandits (goblins), finds an old wise creature to train him and master the skills he needs to get revenge, saves the girl, and along the way he gains friends and allies that help him and encourage.

It's not murder, goblins are monsters not people.
Add that to the growing list of things that the abridged series does fundamentally better than the source material.
@@theoneandonlymichaelmccormick Oh great another abridged series get that part of the fandom go " the Abridged series is better than the original"
Hai Nguyenthanh Is it wrong though?

Oh I see, So Goblin Slayer is only like that when he's wearing the Helm of Gobocidal Mania. It adds +50000000000000000000000000000000000000000 to your Goblin Hatred
You sure it’s only +5? That’s seems kinda small for someone know as GAWWWWBLIN SLAYER!!!
@@jackb.2245 Fixed it
I love how the Goblin Slayer helmet is literally a magic item in D&D (Dread Helm, makes your eyes glow red beneath the visor)
I think they may actually be implying that his helmet may indeed be a magic item actually. Just a theory, but I think his Teacher gave it to him to help him overcome his PTSD or his fear or something, and help him fight goblins, which would account for why he's so insistent on wearing the mask all the time actually.
I feel like that hatred is added to a 1 through 10 scale
I like the touch that unarmored he’s soft spoken like in the anime but as soon as the helmet goes on he goes max tilt.
9:12 The real moment G-dawg realized he despised Sword Maiden. We all thought it was when she asked to stay with her and make her feel safe, but it's when he realized she was being cruel to his friend.
"Wgat would make you say something like that?"
"Well the sword maiden and I were talking and-"
"Sword Maiden?!"
Beholder: I am hilarious and you will quote everything I say....HELLO?!
I do believe you mean:
“!?OLLEH ....yas I gnihtyreve etouq lliw uoy dna suoiralih ma I
Best part of the episode. Could not stop pausing after to laugh after every beholder line. The idea of him being this yelly, confused, stressed out creature is just too good.
The Beholder was this show's Ghost Napa, he was hilarious, and we will quote everything he said. HELLO!
Casey Malkiewicz seriously that part has me dying
OLLEH?
ghost nappa was my favorite character of ALL anime. He's so great....
_Have fun thinking about that_
WHAT?
I DON'T SPEAK COMMON
HELLO!
I love how knowledgeable the dwarf is and how he calls out every bullsh*t he sees
"Aren’t those things resistant to magic? I shouldn’t have been able to do that."
"It’s a sixth level spell. Look it up."
This episode is amazing
Yeah, but at least in 5e, "Dream Travel" is *not* a spell.
@@Worgslarg Yeah, but this series is set in Pathfinder, not 5e. References to: Torag, Calistria, Iomedae, Kyonin, Droon, Five Kings Mountain. And in PF, Dream Travel IS a 6th level spell.
I'm pretty sure my favorite part of this entire abridged series is last episode (At least I think it was last episode) where I think he asks someone for the map of the sewers? And they say something to the effect of "I've been ignoring this map the entire time" and his response is just a flawless:
Oh. Oh that's bad though.
It cracks me up every time I hear it.
The dwarf is seriously just done with all of goblin slayers bullshit
Resistant doesn't mean immune...
With a good roll you can do anything
Even oneshot a dragon with a dagger
I know about that because i did kill a dragon with a dagger and a *REALLY* lucky throw (three 20 in a row, almost impossible, but it can happen)
(It will probably never happen again)
The DM said that i hit right under the chin (where there's the inverted scale) or something
It's amazing how an abridged parody explains the whole thing with Sword Maiden, the crocodile and the goblins better than the actual anime.
Fr tho,in the anime I didn't really get what she was apologizing for. The only thing that I took away from the whole interaction upto today is the fact she got raped by goblins at a younger age
They literally say it's her familiar in the anime wdym
"Kill the goblins, for a nameless village no one ever heard of, protect an innocent girl in a nameless family no one ever care about."
When you known some spin-off out there this bit really hit home, a no name girl he protected that day literally killed off a demon lord just one day before his Beholder bombing incident 😂
I think I remember hearing about that. Something about him saving the hero before she was the hero? I never read the book you are referring to so I’m grabbing at straws here.
@@lonelypancake5979 Basically that, yes.
[Edited : the title is Goblin slayer : Year one.]
It's one of spin-off manga about his early days, burn and ablaze with pure vengeance, he single-handedly deal with horde of goblins that would attack and plunder a village deep in a wild that literally nobody would cares about, rise a fences, barricade, surveillance around the village and everything else on his own and maw down the goblins's attack to very last one of them amidst the heavy rain, push himself so hard he almost become a living corpse and learned about how much fatigue can bother him when he have so much to do. It really is one of his most badass episode yet.
Later that day it reveal that said village were houses a chosen girl who would posses an omnipotent sword that could be a salvation of mankind against dark tide of evil demons.
Some said the girl would still destined to left alive no matter the GS has been intervene or not, maybe in-dept from web novel or so?
Either way, had GS not interrupt the horde as god planed for her to have a morbid background, she would grow up to be a vengeful hero instead of cheerful one that we currently known.
@@Tenraio Is the Dream Travel spell actually a thing too?
@@mago474 Kinda, in the abridge was actually DnD joke, but in GS world do exist certain type of spell that let you travel to another plain or between different realm with some extra condition need to be fulfilled. (The Dark Elf arc have hero's team represent this set up for a short while in later part of arc) So it does possible that Dream Travel can actually be a thing, canonically.
But what this situation leading to is that, with GS has accept SWM's last lament that he gladly slay those *F I L T H Y* goblins for her if they ever appear in her dream, not that he would literally going to do that but his word had reinforce her shattered mind with more ease, knowing that she can relies on GS to deal with any kind of goblins matter, they'll never find peace even in her dream, having GS by her side (mentally/imaginary) make her get better and starting to recover from her past trauma, she can now sleep peacefully without having a nightmare about them ever again.
You can say that GS has gotten so strong that he didn't even need Dream Travel to deal with them, only his word to reassure her safety in her wild slumber already obliterated what left of goblins remnant that haunt her entire life.
@David McConville so GS is completely unique even in a world of god's and magic?
Nice
"i want to make a goblinh slayer costume"
why ? beaucse of the anime ?
"yes but not the one you know" XD
I dont get it :S
Berstiger11 he’s talking about this abridged series
"Goblin Slayer, does that mean you'll tell me your fucking plan before we do it for once."
Golden
Try listening to this scene with out the video its way funnier
Fr hahaha xD
GOBLIN Slayer: oh i have a plan. First find some goblinated asses. Step two: ungoblinate them with extreme prejudice
The lines are so good. First episode: “the only good goblin is a dead goblin, now let’s make you into good goblins” now: “they leave behind a joke. Now let’s make sure you’ve got a good punchline” damn, shivers
Ok, so the helmet is his insane persona. Without helmet he is just a usual 'Souka' OG Goblin Slayer.
Talk about split personality.
I like to believe that the soul of every goblin he kills gets trapped in the helmet, and hearing their eternal suffering spurs abridged goblin slayer to greater fury and madness.
The difference between Goblin Slayer and GAWWWBLIN SLAYERR!!
These characters especially goblin slayer have better personality then their canon counterparts
@@TheKing-rp9by Not 'have' better 'make it' better. Like improved from OG personality.

GS: Till then be someone the Priestess can look up to. She can become so much more than... This.
Good God that line was delivered so fucking well. Good job man.
The whole scene was brilliant
"You got the God of Justice on speed dial!"
I love how priestess was like "you know necromancy is like, super evil right?" A couple episodes ago to lizard priest.
But LP is so casual and cool about it because its a normalized part of his race's culture like "yeah we eat eachother and raise eachothers bones to fight. What, do you not?"
Reminds me of the setting of Arcanum and how necromancy is just another school of magic, divorced from moral implications. Despite it being the chosen profession of the main villain lol
I'm really enjoying priestess's developments through the episodes
“Wait what? You’re approaching me.”
“You cant measure the shit out of me all the way over there!”

I just realized: Sword Maiden is what priestess would have become if Goblin Slayer hadn't saved her in the cave. Dude! If priestess becomes more than "that," its becuase of you.
No. One of the various corpses is what priestess would have become. A passed out first level cleric without spell slots? Sword Maiden probably had some more resources available when the goblins got her.
@@Poldovico No. No, she really didn't. What she got at the time was same kind of "luck" that Fighter got in the original. P.S., do NOT ask me to elaborate further, please and thank you!
@@oceanberserker Why, did fighter survive in the original?
@@Poldovico Depends on what you mean by 'survive.'
@@oceanberserker In the anime, fighter dies in the cave, no? Only priestess makes it out alive.
“GIVE ME MY FREE FITTING”

That talk Goblin Slayer had with Priestess was both funny and heartwarming at the same time. They basically admit how much they value each other.
“Everyone I love dies, except for [priestess]” makes me incredibly happy as well
I know I’m a few years late to the party, but…
Thirty Three Percent Value!
Also a few years late to the party, but I really like how he tried to comfort her in his GAWWBLIN SLAYER! way, but switched to genuinely heart-to-heart talk after that wasn't getting through. Made it feel a lot more natural. Very well done on Grimmjack's part.
Oh, and @AVerySexuallyDeviantOrange Benefit of hindsight, probably, but I think he was talking about Cow Girl with that line, since he was talking about losing the people of his hometown.
Still nice, as it shows he cares deeply about her even well into his goblin slaughter business. And has gotten comfortable enough around Priestess that he'll admit it.
Dude this ending is way better than the original episode and relatable. I would look down at sword maiden if I was on the same spot as GS
Zplus Galaxy I see them both as different approaches to disciplining and comforting someone. Original one is more comforting and easing someone while the other is more tough love and reprimanding in a sense.
I prefer the original. The way Goblin Slayer comforted her was badass, and probably my favorite moment of the season.
@@justsomelizardwithatophat.367 The reason why this one confronts her this way is because of his teacher. I mean he even repeats the same phrase he used on him. The Goblin Slayer's teacher, in this universe, has left a much bigger mark on him.

Goblin slayer: “15... wtf?”

Japan needs to be arrested.
Well, the age of consent in Japan is 13.....yeah, it's...I mean...even Alabama has their age of consent at least at sixteen.
Curnott but then again, she’s trying to... you know what I got nothing tbh, I can’t really bs my way to logic here lol
Curnott it’s actually a lot more complicated than that.
@@curnott6051 That is only true on paper. Their national law says the age of consent is 13, however every Prefecture has its own rules in addition to national law and pretty much all of them set the age of consent higher than that.
I *FUCKING* love the voice actor for Goblin Slayer. So perfectly serious yet silly and yet charismatic enough to sell a deaf person a set of earphones.
Or a blind person welding goggles.
It reminds me of Father from Bread Boys if Father was born from Texas
God I love the captions
"the only certain things in life are death, taxes, and goblin running noises"
I am now always disappointed when DM’s make goblins intelligent or adorable. I want to slaughter them while yelling “GYYOOOAAAHHBLIIINNNSSS”
As much as I adore adorable and intelligent goblins if they evil you kill them screaming!
Man, I used that image as a profile image for a good four years.
The only goblins I shall forgive is none. Well, maybe JoCat's.

In the scene where Goblin Slayer is condemning the Sword Maiden and says the priestess could be so much more than "this", while there's obviously the parallel to ending up like the Sword Maiden, her idol, I think he's also referring to himself and the Sword Maiden in a collective sense. "This" refers to them both, as broken individuals whose lives were destroyed by goblins, they both carry scars that will never heal, and in a way they've both given up on trying. But it's not too late for her, she overcome her past trauma, transcend and that hope motivates GS a little, since there's probably still a part of him that wants that for himself.
This series has gone TFS, comedy first and then pulling on the right emotional strings to enhance it. I love this series so much

They are genuinely the new TFS
So his voice changes into the bombastic version when he puts the helmet on. That means either the helmet is amplifying his voice or it's a conscious decision because he finally feels safe to talk like that with his literal security blanket on and the fact that either is valid speaks volumes about the writing in this series.
