  • This one is a 1986. The parts weren’t necessarily shot, but I definitely had the horrendous squeaking that bad ball joints have. Changed a few other parts at the same time.

    That idea for raising the upper control arm with the jack in the truck is genius!

    I have a 86 and I got it just for hunting, put a new motor in it, that motor didn’t make it 300 miles and blew a Head-casket, now waiting on the new motor, while waiting I ordered all new ball joints and idler arm, I’m wanting to replace the front end cause that truck is so loose, all over the road, this video really helped, thanks

      Glad it helped! Good luck with that new engine. Hoping to get this LC Engineering motor swap done in the next week or so. Stay tuned and check out the videos of it!

    Thanks for posting all this, i got a 92 for my first truck last summer, brought it a few towns over to work on it with some buddies. Someone ran a 2 way stop and it was too icy for me to do anything about it. I kept the truck and took half the insurance money and I hope I made a good choice

      I have a growing collection of Toyotas and I don’t plan to ever get rid of this one! Hope to one day get the bed replaced and painted. Hang on to yours, you’ll always be glad you did!

    I have also had terrible luck with Moog ball joints. Lasted less than 6 months and 10,000 miles on my 86 Toyota. Replaced them with OEM and haven't touched them in 7 years.

    I really liked your video. I've got a 94' 3.0 with 300k on it. Love that truck, so I decided to drop a bunch of cash that I probably should have spent on a new truck. I found myself asking the same question - "what am I trying to accomplish here?" Anyhow, watching you swap out these cheaper parts gave me some solace that maybe I'm not crazy just getting this thing up and running in decent shape again. Going to hit the ball joints and idler arms this week. Thanks for the primer.

      If you restore it you wont spend 40 or 50 thousand on it and you won’t have a 400 500 600 dollar monthly payment for 60 or 72 months and not have to pay full coverage insurance just need patience and patience is free👍

      I bought this truck for $1200 USD, when my oldest (now 23) son turned 16. It's currently my second least used truck out of my 5 Toyotas. All but this Tundra are paid off! Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/mXTr6BHSHyM/v-deo.html

    Great video and warning about that brand of ball joints. I know this came out only a few years ago but it seems like it's from another age when he says the truck is lucky to not be in the boneyard and that maybe he should be spending the money on a new truck instead. The value of these trucks and the price of new trucks have both gone way up in the last few years. Definitely worth rockauto prices to keep these trucks on the road, unclear if you could say the same about new trucks being worth their price.

    When it comes to ball joints and tie rods, Id definitely recommend going OEM. Toyota parts are a bit more expensive, but they are quality parts, and they'll fit perfectly. I wouldn't trust Chinese parts at all.

    One of the few good quality videos. Clear footage with plenty of light and good explanation for DIY.
    I watched some videos where some knuckle heads recorded the video in the at night and started their videos " if you think this you are dead wrong". Those videos will go down to drain as people haters who recorded them

    Wow. Just had a great laugh.... I just spent all day on my 87 but the ball joints where still good. used all original parts from the old stuff I had gathered for the job. I installed zerks in every part that moves even drilling and tapping for them on the tie rods. Now I'm good for another hundred thousand miles on top of the 300 k my pickup has on it , that is IF I grease it. New wheel bearings, disks, calipers, drive axles, seals, interior, etc......and it really did not cost that much. I am not a fan of china parts, junk.

    I’m curious if you wish you’d paid the extra for oem? I’m about to do this project on my 87 Toyota 4x4. Priced the parts on LCE and after watching this video, for me, I think it’s worth paying for an almost guaranteed direct fit.

    • @AdventureTEQ
      @AdventureTEQ  3 роки тому +1

      Yep. I’d have to agree. I dont know what the price difference is, but how does a manufacturer make something that doesn’t fit like this?! You had one job!!

    • @Toyotas_n__Tools
      @Toyotas_n__Tools 3 роки тому +2

      I go with everything mostly LCE but if I can find OEM toyota locally or on ebay for cheaper I go that route but I dont mind paying retail for what they offer that is specific to them. I've spent thousands with them throughout the years with no problem ever.

    • @AdventureTEQ

    How different is this to a 1993 Toyota pickup?

  • @michaelmoon4925
    @michaelmoon4925 2 роки тому +1

    Moog tie rod ends are piece of crap. I installed the inner and outer tie rod ends but they rusted after a year. I replaced the oem toyota with minor rust and play but the boots were worn out. I bought the mevotech upper and lower for my van but made in Taiwan and the parts were not hard to install with no grinding.

    • @AdventureTEQ
      @AdventureTEQ  2 роки тому

      Yeah. At the time I purchased these parts it was for a “lightly used” application. Turns out I’m going to be wheeling it a bit harder, and if I’d had that knowledge (I now do, moving forward) I’ll only buy solid parts, like I’ve done on practically 90% of the $5,000+ OEM parts I’ve put on my Land Cruisers. These things suck! LOL!!
