Do you have a Dracaena compacta? Or any questions about this beautiful plant? Make sure to comment below :)
Hi mine has alot of browning on the bottom leaves since i last watered it with tap water a while ago. Im thinking i should pull out the affected crusty leaves on the bottom to make it look more like a tree and move it outside. I think theres also not enough humidity since the only plants that are doing well in my house rn are cacti. I moved a houseplant outside in that spot before and it did really well so should i do it?
I think the increased humidity and rain outside will help it out
So happy to have found your channel, you're a human embodiment of sunshine. Just picked up a waterlogged dracaena compacta and scared she's going to do something whack while she recovers so this makes me feel a lot more prepared for what she throws at me while I try to get her healthy again
I have had my Dracaena plant for about a month now. Learning all I can to take proper care of him
Thank you for the tips! Mine has yellowing leaves and really needs to be repotted. You should make a video on signs that you should repot a plant.
very good video! I am French and I work at IKEA, we have just received dracaena compacta, I just took one and with your advice, the plant will be healthy
I love your detailed and yet quick videos! Also your smile is so cute! ☺️☺️
Thank you so much ! So happy you are now part of the community ❤️
Your videos are ALWAYS so helpful! Thanks, Lucia! 💕
So happy you find them helpful 💚💚 thank you for your kind comment 🥰
I love when I look up a plant care guide and one of your videos pop up!💚
Just repotted my Dracena(Vampira)yesterday, and find your channel today! You’re adorable *subscribed*
Hiii! Thank you so much ♥️♥️ so happy you are part of the community 🥰🌼🌿! How is your dracaena doing in her new home?
OMG I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!! I'm instantly subscribing! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for your comment! I'm so happy you liked the videos and that you are now part of the community 🎉🎉♥️
I have two of this plant and this video really helped me thank you so much
Yay! So happy it helped, you are very welcome ❤️🌿!
Thanks for the video! Turns out i have been simultaneously drowning and drying out my dracacena by over watering and under humidifying 🤦♀️ She did get quite sunburnt (grey spots on leaves) in the summer and has managed to recover beautifully from that, but looks like we have a little ways to go
loved the way you explain
Great tips. Gracias Lucía!
Hola! So happy you liked the video! Y de nada! Me encanta hacerlos y conocer a gente nueva que está interesada en plantas! Un saludo ☺️🌿
Plants and Lucia Hola Lucia. Deseando que tengas un buen día. 😃🌞☀️
Lucia I love how you edit your videos! And very detailed and informational, I don't have the dwarf dracaena but I do have the marginata & reflexa and their both great plants.
Thank you so much for your comment ♥️
Ah! I don't have those ones, do you have pictures? Maybe you can send them via Instagram /Twitter. Would love to see them ☺️
@@PlantsandLucia sure thing I will send you a few pics later today.
I just bought mine yesterday. Its like the size of the palm of my hands and it fits in the smallest clay pot I could find at home depot. I'm excited to see how it grows
I read that perlite can cause flouride issues for Janet Craig where leaves will turn brown and that 10% sand is an alternative
your smile is contagious!!!
Thank you ! And now YOU made me smile 🥰
Thank you for the tips 🤩
It is my pleasure !
Very helpful and clear thank you
You are very welcome 🥰!
Thanks for the tips! Im having trouble with my dracena riki right now started to have yellow tips, maybe its very dry inside the room and its very hot right now in dubai. Will try your watering methods😊 thank u.
Yay! Hopefully it helps! Keep me updated ♥️♥️ also here is a video on yellowing/brown leaves on the dracaena and some of the most common causes ua-cam.com/video/40_-I7D3DgE/v-deo.html
I hope it helps 🌿🥰♥️
Thanks for the tips
You are very welcome ! Let me know if you have any questions :)
Hello! Not sure if you’ll see this since the video is a bit old, but I’m wondering if it’s alright to put decorative stones on the soil of the plant? Will it be okay or will the soil become too moist or suffocated? Thank you for the video!
More brilliance and continuity my friend
Very easy u tell everything thank u my dear
Thank you!! So happy you liked the video 🌿☺️!

Thank you!! I have my dracaena compacta at work at my desk, and I'm going to trade the terra cotta tray for a bigger plastic one for the humidity, since the tips do tend to brown a little bit. When you water from the bottom do you set it in a different tray for watering and then place it back on the rocks after?
Hi my friend, just checking if I missed some previous comments and just found yours here and in the obstusifolia video 🌿♥️ Thank you so much for sharing your experience with plants with me 🥰
When I bottom water her, I do it either in the sink (filled up with water to cover all the substrate, or in a bowl) I use this water for different plants too.. So we can save water with this method 💦🌎♥️ you can find a video on how to water from the bottom here: ua-cam.com/video/D_0B3UJgGhU/v-deo.html
Hope this is helpful ♥️ and thanks again! Really love reading your comments ☺️☺️🌿
I just bought one! Thanks for the very helpful information on growing as I never had one before. I didn't know they got 5 feet tall! She's all leaves and no stem. So she will grow a stem, right? Thanks! Oh and I've subscribed to your channel and will look for more info on other new plants I've just bought. :)
My dracdracaena grew very tall after repotting, but yes, began drying up and spotting on it's lower leaves. My question is can/should I cut leaves to a half length? Or do I need to pull them off even if it's pretty high in the plant? Thanks for your time.
You are so lovely thank you so much 😊
Thank you so much. I have about 8 different dracaenas. I just can’t seem to make my compacta Janet Craig happy 😢
Aloha, thanks for the information. Mahalo
Happy it was helpful! :)
I just purchased one today.
Hi. I have a dracaena compacta.... the tips are turning a dark brown. I live in Chicago. So our winters are long and super frigid. I have moved the plant away from the window. There is a great light in the room. But I'm afraid of the dry heat and chilliness in the air. I've only watered it once since I've bought it. And the soil is starting to dry. Should I start bottom watering or keep watering from the top?? 😁
Thanks for the video and you have such a lovely personality! I left my "Janet" in the sun and she has burned a bit but now she's inside and doing better. I have a question--how does one propagate it? I would like to have several more.
Hi! That’s a great question, I’ll do some research and let you guys know :-)
Hae lucia ..just saw your vid today and just happen to have two of that . But I don't know how to propagate it . Can I do it with cutting?
Ah this is a great question ! I haven’t propagated this plant but will do my research and make a video about it ☺️
I love your channel! Do you have a video on Dracaena Massangeana?
Hiii! Thank you so much! I still don't because we don't have that one yet at home, but when we find it I will make a video for sure :)
Hi , thanks for this awesome video! I have a Janet Craig, and was wondering if she would do well in the bathroom, no window bathroom?? Thanks in advance! 🙂
Hi Kristelle! Do you get any light in the bathroom or none at all?
Mine has the leaves closing up instead of bushing out. Do you know why and how I can make it open back up?
My apartment is very dry. Can I mist my Dracaena? How much would be too much? Thanks!
My draceana his name is Gabriel, I've had him for OVER a year, has not seemed to go never wilts sits in semi detect light and has only ever lost one leaf (after my move) should he be bigger? Should he get repoted?
Hii! First of all, LOVE his name :)
hmm.. could you send a picture to my instagram? Based on what you've said, your Dracaena seems to be doing fine.. sometimes they take longer to grow (this depends on where they are, and the nutrients that they are getting..)
I usually repot in the summer if I see that the plant needs more space to grow, so if you plant has been slow in the growing process and the roots are not coming out of the pot, I would not recommend to repot just yet.. But maybe you can send a picture of your plant to my instagram and we can go from there :)
All the best to you and your Dracaena!
Lucia
I'm a complete novice, so I watched the video on bottom watering that was linked to this and my question is, if I'm buying this plant from a nursery and it comes in the plastic container with holes at the bottom, do I need to repot it at all or just place it inside a pot as it is? I feel like this is probably why I always kill plants, repotting them when I don't need to. Everything else is very helpful, thanks!
Hi! Sorry I missed this comment earlier..! For me it depends... I always check the roots at the bottom of the pot, if they are coming out of the drainage holes, I repot them to a one size bigger pot. How's your Dracaena doing now?
Mine is one long tall plant and I don't know what to do about it
Hello! I recently bought a Janet Craig Dracaena and I noticed that the base of one branch’s leaves are dark brown and not dry. I checked today and the whole branch’s bunch is completely drooping now. Would this be a humidity or infection case? Thanks!
oh no.. sorry to read this... it sounds like this may be root rot ... but to be sure, how often do you water your dracaena? What method do you use? and what kind of water?
Plants and Lucia thanks for your reply! So I didn’t actually watered it myself; the store I bought it in watered it previously. Recently I’ve been watering it with drinking water (from a plastic bottle). I also cut off the dying branch. I only water when the soil is super dry; but this happens often since I leave the ceiling fan in my room constantly on. I also mist the leaves from time to time. So far, it looks okay after cutting it, but I do see some base of leaves turning black again which worries me.
Oh no... hmmm how often do you water her ? This may be root rot 😔 but let’s make sure...
I have a dracena and she started to have black leaves. I put her in water, she now is ok. But when I put her in soil she gets black leaves. Any idea why is that?
Thnks dear
My pleasure! Happy you liked the video ♥️☺️
@@PlantsandLucia I did. Actually, I have a Draceana at home and I dont know how to take care of it. 😘😘
I see you are using perlite ? how long are you using perlite with the dracenea ? Can i use perlite with dracaena plants??? because there are reports that perlite contains fluoride.
Hii again ☺️ Hmm yes, I use perlite with mine and they seem to be doing fine.. Have you had troubles with it?
@@PlantsandLucia nope just asking :). Last week i recieved my dracaena lind and like to repot in to my terrecotta pot. Normally iam always using cactus soil and some perlite with all my plant and have never problems with it. For my normal house plant iam always using some wormcastings.
best regards from the Netherlands
I believe I do but it’s much taller than the one in your video would it still be the same a compacta ?
hi! hmm do you havea picture ? Maybe you can send on instagram and we can figure it out :)
That’s a great idea my wife has an instagram shall we exchange info ? Hers is @abigailology. I would love to know which two species I have 😬
Sorry for missing your reply ..! Yes, send to @plantsandlucia ♥️🌿🥰
Hi. Can you tell me why my compacta has yellowing on the top leaves?
Hii! Sorry I missed your comment ! There are various reasons for this. I've discovered that this is a common issue with this plant, so I made a video :) Hope it is helpful! ua-cam.com/video/40_-I7D3DgE/v-deo.html
can it grow inside my room? without sunlight... I have incandescent and LED light
Hi! As long as you provide the light for it, your plant should be able to grow..! Grow lights can be helpful, just make sure to provide the right amount and observe your plant to see if she is happy there ☺️🌿♥️
Let me know how it goes!
@Wanderlustin why water the middle? I thought it's not allowed to water the middle of the leaves cos it will kill the plant?
Hi
I have issues with dracaena compacta.
Leaves are getting yellow, which then turns in to back. Even the leaves at top side are getting affected. It was having two stems.
A week ago all 3 branches and leaves in one stem (30 cm in height )gone. All the branches turns down from the neck(where the leaves attached to stem). It went upside down from the neck, where the neck area black in color, few leaves are even green on these branches.
As of now the stem color is green, but doesn’t even have a single leaf. Where as the second stem left with very few leaves.
Can you please give some tips to save the plant. I am bit worried what will happen to stem which is green as of now but no leaves in it. If I wait for few days any chances to get some new leaves or should I remove the stem?.
I was giving water every 3 days and after seeing your video believe that these are may be due to overwatering...
Waiting for your reply.
Hi! So sorry about your dracaena..! Do you have instagram by any chance? Maybe you can send some pictures..
How often to you water her? and what method do you use?
what is the bottom watering method
Hello. I just got a janet craig compacta dracaena. The tips got brown over the first night i got it. After watching your video, i cut only the tips since the rest of the leaf is a nice healthy green color. Unfortunately, those same leafs turned brown again. What should i do? Please help. I do not want to loose my new baby. Thank you.
Hi! Sorry to hear this..! Could you maybe send a picture to Instagram?
Based on what you describe, there can be various reasons for this :
1. The dracaena compacta is sensitive to hard water, so it is recommended not to use water from the tap... Filtered water may be better..
2. Overwatering: this is also another common reason for blackening of the leaves.
3. Have you checked the roots? How do they look like? If they are circling around the potting mix, your plant may need repotting..
If you do have Instagram, please send a message there with a picture, we may be able to figure it out together ♥️
@@PlantsandLucia Hi Lucia, I need help please. I have two Janet Craig Dracaenas both plants have black yellow leaves that appeared two weeks after I bought them. However I took them outside for a couple of hrs and it was not direct sun. I put distilled water to drain any fluoride today May 30, 2020. I did give it tap water before and they had soil that is soggy that is why I put them out for a few hrs outside. What should I do? I bought potting mix to try to potted them in a permitted pot. I will wait on your comments on what should I do. Thank you. I pray that they will survive.
Hi LucIa I will send you some pictures of the two plants that I describe in the earlier message that I sent in May 2020.
@@pattierodriguez9705 hiii! My apologies! For some reason I didn't see your message before :( Yes, send them on instagram and let's see what we can do :)
whats going on when they develop brown spots on the leaves ? My baby in question is about 30 years old , would her age have anything to do with the brown spots on her leaves ?
Sorry to hear about the brown spots on your dracaena.. Do you have a picture? Maybe you can DM me on Instagram and we can figure it out together... I have also made a video on this specific problem and some of the most commons causes (as it is very common). You can find the video here : ua-cam.com/video/40_-I7D3DgE/v-deo.html

Thank you for responding , I will follow your advice with the pebble tray and stop using tap water to see will these changes make a difference .

My issue with my plant are clear spots on the leaves but cannot find info on this issue. I have inspected plant and do not see bugs if any kind. Can you help?
Hii! Sorry to read this :-( do you have Instagram? Maybe you can send a picture there and we can figure out the problem
@@PlantsandLucia Hi, I sent you pics via message in Instagram.
My Frieda's leaves are turning brown. :( I'm going to try to give her more humidity and see if that makes her happy.
I was thinking about purchasing this plant> It would have been nice if you actually shown yours instead of just the top of it.
I have this plant. I was wondering if they will eventually grow to have a branch.
Hi! Yes, some dracaenas will grow to have branches :) do you have this one specifically?
@@PlantsandLucia yes this janet craig specifically. i would like it to grow a cane, but i might be expecting more from it haha
Haha it should be growing taller with branches, but it is a very slow grower ! 🙃🌿
@@PlantsandLucia yay hehe ok! I will be patiently waiting then. Thank you!!!
I have this plant but it hasn't grown is this normal. I had it for about 9 months it's not dying its Green and no brown spots but it seems it doesn't grow.
My dracaena compacta has grown a flower, a spiral flower , wish I can show it
Lucia HELP ME!!! I have an amazing dracaena compacta that is about 4 ft tall! I dont water him often but I feel like the bottom quarter of his soul is always soaking wet! I have him raised up so it can drain so I'm not sure if the soil is just packed too tight. His leaves are getting black & yellow and I've tried loosening the soil and poking holes to aerate a little but it doesnt seem to be helping. HELP!! I don't want to lose this guy!
Hiii! I am so sorry I missed this comment! How's your Dracaena doing?
Hope it is better and if not, we can try figuring out the problem together! Will stay tuned !
My dracena has got black spot what is the solution?
Hi! It depends, there may be various causes for this. I have a video that talks about it. You can find it here ➡️ ua-cam.com/video/40_-I7D3DgE/v-deo.html do let me know if any one of them resonates with you and I’m here for any other questions 😊💚
Hi, I just got my first dracena compacta and will do just what you suggest
Hii! Sorry I missed your comment earlier! How's your dracaena compacta doing? ♥️🌿
Named after my grandmother and Mother, Lucia and Priscilla, respectively
That is beautiful 💚
what pot would you recommend?
I recommend one with drainage holes ❤️ you can either use plastic or terracota (the oxygen moves through terracota but you have to water more often sometimes, as the soil will dry faster)
Plants and Lucia thank you soo much!! ❤️❤️
Damn, didn't know black spots on leaves (or leaves turn into black) were low humidity's fault 😕 Thank you for advice
Hi! Yes if you see that the dark edges of the leaf are dry, most likely it is because the air is dry...
However, if it is not drying out and just turning black, it may be an infection.. Do you have a picture of your plant? We can figure it out together ☺️🌿
@@PlantsandLucia Sure I have but... How could I share 'em with you? 🤔 Can't do it here 😩

Hey! I'm so sorry I missed your comment! How is your plant doing now?

My plant looked great up until recently but new leaves in the center now look kinda weird with blotchy discoloration :( older leaves still look fine

No , i don’t sell plants at the moment
Hello, I think I have this plant but it keeps dying, I messaged you on Instagram, could you help me by any chance? Please
Hii! Sorry to hear this 😞! Yes let's talk on Instagram 🥰
I just changed her pot except I think its the wrong pot I didn't even realize there is no place for drainage.
How’s it doing now ? Can I help ? 🌿❤️
@@PlantsandLucia Most of the leaves are dying. The entire root system was rotted and fell off. There is one main large root system that's still intact. There also seems to be new leaves sprouting from the middle. I just bought new African violet potting soul and pot that will arrive today, hopefully I can save the plant.
Plastic or ceramic?
Hello! Great question☺️, this is totally up to you.. I use a plastic pot and then a decorative clay pot because it is easier for me when I am bottom watering my plant... But some people prefer clay, as it is more breathable.. Keep in mind: if you use clay, you may have to water your plants a bit more often, and if they are indoors, make sure to put a tray underneath, as clay pots are porous and the water may leak 💦
Hope this was helpful! 🌿☺️
Lucia makes me feel happy. I wish she could move in with me so I could be less of new york arrogant bitch. I strive to be happy like this. My plants would love her too. Probably not my cat. My cat is more of a bitch than me at my worst. Love u Lucia!
