You can not play a glissando as the pegs will have the same effect as bands on for instance a guitar, and as there must be room for all tangents the instrument tends to be long and much heavier than a violin. It is simply more easy to play the instrument in a low position than as a violin is normally held. Today it is still a very popular folk music instrument in Sweden, but as this and other videos on UA-cam shows it lends itself beautifully to playing baroque music.
