Toy Story (1995) - Split-screen Comparison: The Chase (Digital VS. 35mm) (1080p HD)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 жов 2024
- A split-screen comparison between the 35mm footage (probably from the same master as the 1996 and 1997 LaserDiscs (CLV, CAV, & DTS CLV)) used on the supplemental features on Disc 2 of the 2005 DVD and the digital-sourced footage from Disc 1.
Audio is from Disc 1 - Dolby Digital AC-3 5.1

Cool. Right version looks like a 1985 movie. Talking about color compression.
beanerama9 actually it's a 1995 movie
Sonic The Hedgehog i know, but it looks quite more older
beanerama9 the one on the right is original nov. 22 1995 cinema print
except this film was made 10 years later
Looks more like different color palette. Normally compression do other things.
>When you should be comparing both versions, but you're just like watching the movie instead.
2:50 one of the Lion King song
gotta hand it to ya, this video is a lot more honest than a game graphics comparison video.
the one on the right looks like a bad camrip
I did some screenshots of the unprocessed, raw clips from where they came from.

The one on the right looks more like a 35mm telecine, which it is, and the one from the storyboard/final split-screen comparison looks low-res, because it was in a little box on the bottom, and... i dunno. I'll have the storyboard/final split-screen up on the channel along with a custom edit splicing the filmmaker's commentary from Disc 1 on it.
its not just lowres, the color correction is entirely different, they're almost fuzzy
Of course, the transfer on those bonuses (Storyboard/Final Split-screen, Storyboard/Layout/Final "Angle" button bonus) were that of the 1996 and 1997 LaserDiscs (CLV, CAV and DTS CLV). These were THX-certified releases of the era.
Nice profile picture

The fact that an Rc car an catch up to any vehicle is actually kind of impressive
A cheap toy one, yes, but gas powered and top of the line battery powered ones can easily keep up with traffic.
I think it can go on 24 mph and something kilometers

This movie looks phenomenal

Wow, a pop-culture reference.
I hate the fact that Mr Potato Head was a douche the entire film and when he realizes that Woody was right, he doesn't say anything about he was wrong or something. Now I thinking, Mr Potato Head might be the real villain instead of Sid or Scout
Fermin Mark Pousada I think he’s hilarious due to the Amazing don rickles, but yes he is a bit of a prick
but thank goodness he's a lot nicer starting with the sequels.
@@tigerbabe7777 he was such an asshole in the first movie & got what he deserved when rc crashed in2 him
He actually reminds me of Kevin from “Ed Edd N Eddy”
@@emmanuelharris6445 DORK!!!! WAHAHA
See, George Lucas, this is proof you can remaster a movie without changing everything.
Then sh**
No it’s not... lol computer animation is much easier to remaster than live action..
Nick Figures
Even if it was harder to remaster, why does he change so much from the original?
but is it really? i mean they cant really change shit anymore in Toy Story without completely redoing it - and with live action movies i guess you can still make changes.
Even without the changes, they really fucked up the color.
Cross your eyes for a 3d effect.
Oh shoot you're right
Pokeblue lol
It's bad for your eyes somehow I've heard :p
looks cool, but not 3D since both clips are shot from the same angle. If one was slightly off angle to replicate how far apart our eyes are and how we can sense depth, it would be 3D
you know it's kind of impressive how that rc car managed to jump
Two words: Rocket League
never played it
The quality with wich this movie was animated is quite astonishing.
yeah its kinda like when you are playing a 10 year old pc game in 4k.

For some reason the digital-source seems more artificial than the analog one.
Because it's not blurred, you're seeing exactly how the film would of looked when they finished animating it before it went onto VHS/film..

Here’s a fun idea for a split-screen comparison:
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins (Tim Allen version VS. Patrick Warburton version)
Something weird I noticed is that when the cars collide and Scud gets stuck in the middle, the cars are honking their horns at the car they crashed into, like the other cars just stopped for no reason.
GREAT TOY STORY (1995 ) FILM - SPLIT -SCREEN COMPARISON : THE CHASE !!!!
2:59 I love Slinky 🤣
the disc one feature film looks like the one rereleased in hd with better quality and stuff while the other one looks like what the original really looked like when it was released in 1995 lol
They only rendered the movie twice and 2nd time that was for the 2009 3d version (they needed to place the cameras in different places.) The vhs, dvd, laserdisc and blu ray all come from the original 2k render. The only difference between the two is they came from different Intermediates. Both of the videos come from the same master. Also the 35mm copies looked a lot better then what was shown in this video.
Uhh... ...no?
"The vhs, dvd, laserdisc and blu ray all come from the original 2k render."
But the Blu-ray uses the 2009 render. The VHS and LaserDisc are based on the 35mm transfer.
The DVD is the second render because of the credits being a stitched-up, tall image scrolled from top to bottom.
The film is hard-matted to 1.67:1 on 35mm prints, but the credits were in an open matte.
The VHS has proof of it and cuts to black before the fade-in to Pixar's logo, DVD just fades to black to Pixar logo.
The 2009 render (and BDs) have recreated credits, like in the 2003 render of Knick Knack (1989), the best way to compare are little things like the Dolby logos.
There's 3 renders, basically. and only one was 2K; the 2009 render. The 1995 render's resolution was 1536x922. The credits might be traditional opticals. I don't know if the 2000 render was also based on the 1536x922 renders or not. You might have to talk to some Pixar people or ones who used to work at Pixar to verify that stuff.
I'm not talking about the credits. Although the now that I think about it the blu ray came out in 2010 so it most likely has the new render, so fair enough. but everything before it came from the same render. Anyway, you are getting the Intermediate mixed up with the original render. The two are not the same.
But it's possible that the DI the DVDs used were from 2000 or 1999 with the stitched credits,
What the 35mm prints used might be a mish-mash of both digital and opticals (if including credits) like what a lot of digital 2D animated movies from Disney Animation, Paramount/Nickelodeon and Warner Bros. used. The latter three also apply to logos usually.
They had 1080p in 1995?!
@@BallowaxMore like 4K but yeah
35mm should be the original format for the 1995 original version of Toy Story while Digital should be the alternate format for the 1995 original version of Toy Story.

Because it was partially sourced from the Storyboard/Final Split Screen Comparison, which it was,

The encodes used here was straight from the MPEG-2 and VOBs and stuff.
@@OtherFiles Yes

Push it real good!
I Noticed That The 2000 version Is Slightly More Open Matte
The quality's better on the current master, but the lighting and shading also look kinda worse there when compared to the 35mm version.
I disagree.
I actually prefer the disc two version, the slightly changed colour palette makes the lighting look more realistic
Surprisingly This works with vr

1:04 That first car that almost crashed into Scud has the same license plate as the Pizza Planet Truck

@@mitchellhodack657Yea
To be honest with you, I perfer the right because I love the 35mm effects.
notice at 0:31 the number plate says HTT1195. the film came out November 1995. Maybe this is Hits Theaters This November (11) 1995?
...maybe?
High Tech Toons 11/95
looks like a 90s master
Because the footage on the right is indeed a 90s master, the left might be a 90s master be the tail end of the decade, but likely sometime in early to mid 2000 and refined in 2005.
@@OtherFiles now that you think of it, I'm getting StarWars GOUT vibes from Disc 2
theres some background stuff that had its colors changed but thats all I can notice
So, one of them is blurrier than the other
It's something that happens with Digital to Film to Telecine transfers as opposed to a Direct Digital master.
The 20th Century Fox logo from 1994 is a perfect example of this.
Nice
The 2005 DVD Disc one feature film is the same master as the 2000 DVD
The left one (while closer to the source material I guess) looks too clear for me. The background is always in focus, it would be nice if it were blurred
It was 1995, man.
@@OtherFiles Just saw this. I mean like, I like the image on the right. Maybe cause that one gives me nostalgia
Is this the 2005 DVD
Yes, as both predate the 2016 Powerpuff Girls reboot. Same goes for the Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray, and every other video release in the US. Maybe that's coincidental with Warner Bros. doing the tie-in game for Cars 3, but that's largely due to the Avalanche Software revival by WB and not the CN side of things. Last Disney movie I saw CN air was The Muppets (2011) back in November 2016. Last one I saw in whole was Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) back in February 2012.
Other Files wtf kinda answer is that?

It looks like the Blu-ray has had a blanket yellow tint applied to it. Look at how all the blues look a bit greener.
THX-certified DVD here, not the Blu-ray. They just use similar coloring because they're both direct-digital masters.
Did the storyboard vs final comparison have the final film full screen? The 35mm looks kinda blurry.
The longer one without the layout part was not full screen, maybe because it was made for the CAV LaserDisc set.

@@hypn0298 Is the 2005 DVD look like an 2000 DVD
What has happened to disc two? 35mm film can look much better than that.
And why does the quality improve so much at 2:22?
@@Mittens0407 that's because this comparison video is using 2 sources for the 35mm part. both being storyboard-to-final comparisons.
Hmm ? I'm sorry what? I was watching the scene..ohh comparison and stuff..
1:22 toss him overboard
35mm is better
I'm seeing a lot of "35mm" next to the title "Toy Story" on the internet , I'm guessing 35mm is the movie cell, but that's everything my brain could come up with. Can you guys explain me why people are talking about the "35mm Toy Story", what is it and what's the problem with this ? Don't mind doing a 30miles text because I really have zero clue.
35mm is a type of motion picture film, and it's likely that the original theatrical release master for Toy Story was originally mastered on 35mm film as opposed to 70mm, which is basically the 4K DI (digital intermediate) of motion picture film stock, as 35mm is more common like 2K DIs for modern movies are.
That is one fast RC car🏎️.
If you cross your eyes, you can see it in a sort of pseudo 3D
On m.youtube.com on the New Nintendo 3DS, if configured right (despite the 1.78:1 stretched horizontally with the L-R 3-D methods) the psuedo 3D carries over as well.
It looks like a shitty laserdisc with the footage on the right
Because it kinda is the laserdisc footage but only from the storyboard comparison on disc 2 of the 2005 DVD
Anyone else ever wondered how the fuck a remote control car can keep up with a truck?
0:05 No No No RC TOY CAR
1:02 BUZZ SCREAM 😱
Is that honestly 35mm on the right? It looks like 16mm.
Yes, but the ones on this comparison were sourced from the bonus features on the 2005 DVD release (Disc 2) as opposed to the 1996 and 1997 CLV, CAV and DTS CLV LaserDisc releases. THX certified. The LDs would make a better comparison, but I don't have them.
Other Files I might know a guy if you're interested in making a part 2.
So Disc 2 was directally sourced from a 1996 Laserdisc rather than the 1996 Laserdisc's master tapes? That explains why the video's extra blurry
@@OtherFiles Great
Mr Potato Head: GET HIM!
Woody is trying to help!
I think the one on the right was from the 2000 Ultimate Toy Box dvd as well
Toy Story actually looks better on 35mm IMO.
I don't know. Why does the right side looked blurry?
It's blurry because it was in splitscreen, so it was small.
@@NikoBellicDigital Also, I can't see much of a difference. Where does the 35mm come from?
