Who have upheld that police officers DO NOT have a duty of any kind to protect civilians. Never forget the origin of police as we know it today was to hunt down, capture and return run away slaves. They are here to protect property not people, unless that person is extremely wealthy or otherwise highprofile. Even if this were to be a state by state situation they will not stop fighting this case and if it makes it to the supreme court the victim will lose. Some notable cases that made it to the supreme court were the 1981 case Warren v District of Columbia where the general court of appeals held that police had a general "public duty" but that "no specific legal duty exists" Or the 2005's castle rock v gonzales case where the supreme court ruled that the police did not have a duty to protect a woman and her children from her abusive spouse, whom she had a restraining order for. He kidnapped and merked the kids. Depending on acts the investigator takes the evidence created can be deemed unusable due to the way it was procured. Along with this it’s quite hard to find any actual instance of this occurring as the event happening in a public space. If they were to trespass then the evidence they found is illegal.
Cops are only there to arrest. For the most part a detective is the cop that does the extensive investigation. Regular cops only want to be bothered for arrests after crime has been committed not before they aren't here to prevent crime. That would have to be written into policy(law). It's not.

Along with this it’s quite hard to find any actual instance of this occurring as the event happening in a public space. If they were to trespass then the evidence they found is illegal.

Cops are only there to arrest. For the most part a detective is the cop that does the extensive investigation. Regular cops only want to be bothered for arrests after crime has been committed not before they aren't here to prevent crime. That would have to be written into policy(law). It's not.
