    • @KappaJones
      @KappaJones 2 місяці тому

      @somedude142 All of this comes from my own experiences and I encourage anyone else who reads your comment to give their perspective on this as well: Considering it's a work environment, I'll say the obligatory "Take it to your lead/supervisor/manager/HR/etc". With that out of the way: If you've exhausted all of those options and the person/people are still a problem, you have to stand up for yourself. _How_ you do that will always depend on the current situation. I've come across my own share of assholes at work, and usually they will leave a person alone once they start getting some resistance from them. It's been rare for anything to get physical, so most of it is handled through words alone. I've never went out of my way to interact with them, but when I had to, I made it very clear that if it isn't work related then there's nothing to be said. Sometimes people just don't respond to kind gestures. That's when a firm tone comes into play. Don't have to be mean, just let it be known that you aren't someone to walk over or toy with.

    Dear Xevi: warning young girls... to act how, please? Not talk to men at all? Someone I exchanged a few words with at the line in the supermarket afterwards thought he had thereby earned the right to come home with me. He literally said: "... but we talked!"
    The answer can not be for girls to be more cautious, it has been shown that not even wearing total burkas and not speaking at all makes women safe from men.
    We have to warn men, boys, adolescents to realise that nobody has the right to anybody these days.
    We need to incorporate that into films, influencers' stances, podcasts.
    We might be building an equalistic society where masculinity is a choice, not a poison.

      I agree that it should definitely be that way, but in this case, it isn't that he was just misogynistic or toxically masculine, but that he was a completely irredeemable psycho. The former you can definitely push people away from with the right influence, but it takes a special kind of crazy to fly halfway across the world to murder someone over a perceived slight. Telling someone like that to not be bad is very likely to fall on deaf ears, but telling potential victims how to avoid them will yield more effective results.
      But yeah I agree, the world would be a better place if what you say were the case.

      @Onyxcats Right, but the primary perpetrators of these crimes, most violent crime, are men. To bring up women or say "not all men" sounds like you're trying to displace responsibility. The issue is largely to do with how men and boys are socialized to be entitled to women and to lash out when they don't get their way. This is a men's issue and it's up to men to address it amongst themselves. Otherwise them and the women they love will remain in danger.

    Entertaining, great storytelling, and good looking out making the world better and safer for women and young girls. That’s why he’s my new fav!

    Thank you for emphasizing that a some dudes feel entitled to some get back and thats how they end up doing stupid shit (Over some petty shit mind you)
    This is probably the best outcome he could've gotten, the fact that he survived is crazy to me, maybe because the family were Muslim. Any other family and he would've never gotten to reflect on it

    Two facts the makes this story even worse:
    1. At the time she was 13 and he was 20.
    2. Since this happened in 2014, he is probably out of jail.
