I'm kinda on the fence with the Legacy Era designs, but god damn, the Imperial Fleet clearly got the best designs. And this is a thing of beauty I still love the design of the Imperial-class, but the Pellaeon-class is most definitely a worthy successor
I find with the legacy era that the Imperial designs are great, whilst the Alliance designs are....bad. Just bad. The scythe I can accept as an aggressive glass cannon assault ship, but not THE main cruiser of the faction! And the main fighter....there's ugly, and then there's THAT!
Actually from an engineering standpoint a sphere does make the most sense, only instead of individual hardpoints, spread evenly across the surface, the majority of the weaponry, at least the most powerful weapons would be on rails, so they could be moved around the outside of the sphere allowing you to bring firepower to bear where ever it is needed most. So if that's in one direction, bring all of your weapons to bear at that particular point. If reinforcements show up, then redeploy whatever firepower necessary. Then since you're spherical, if you take too much damage, you just rotate so they're hitting a section undamaged.
Having a rail for an entire gun assembly, plus the mounting, plus the articulation system, plus all the power and maintenance access, while making the whole thing resilience enough to survive combat condition does not seem practical from engineering standpoint....hell, the sheer amount of delicate moving parts needed for such mechanism would probably make any engineer assigned to make this thing put a blaster to their head.
Also being a Thrawn Fanboy for lack of better term this ships make more sense, plus it brings back interdiction fields being common on main line ships like the Sith Interdictor cruiser/Leviathan class star cruisers. They were the main ship of the line having considerable firepower for their size, fighter complement, tractor beams and interdiction capability. And it’s cannon so we they had the tech to do it then, so seeing a modern era vessel with similar design features…Thrawn Would greatly approve as do i. As i am a Nerd And conduct fantasy battles all the time with my friends.
Maybe the reactor dome on the bow was for the interdiction fields. I'm personally sad that we don't really get a ton of solid numbers on ship sizes from Legacy era stuff.
Out of all the designs from the legacy stuff, this is by far favorite. Looks cool as hell, is both recognizable as a Star Destroyer and unique looking at the same time, the design makes sense, and it's armed to the teeth (even if I think the number of tractor beams and launchers are some sort of typo). Just a really well thought out design. Wish stuff like this made it into the new Disney cannon instead of what we've been getting.
I really love how the lore of this ship mirrors real life battleship development focusing on superfiring turrets in the front - like the Dunkirk and Nelson class.
I definitely like this design as a main ship of the line class but more of a heavy star cruiser course the Star Wars ship classification is different from modern planetary standards. But this ship makes sense
The number of guns in a battery for star wars never made much sense. I'd heard of the 10 guns to a battery reference, but it was such a ridiculous number. 3 to 8 guns depending on the type made so much more sense to me. Breakdown wise, good video. Just a question, are you sure the Imperious had a grav well generator? I know a couple of sources that state they carried grav well mines, similar to the ones used by the Hapans and Zsinj's empion mines.
One of those ships that I really like viewed from one angle, but from another angle think is just alright. Maybe that's a casual topic for a video one day?
I wonder how it'd stack up against Clone Wars and Imperial-Era vessels? Now I'm tempted to write a fanfic where one of these, with or without escorts, is sent back in time and ends up helping the Confederacy or something.
i really like the post vong legends stuff where technology has progressed to the point that people can have the effectiveness of an ISD at a fraction of the size
@MetaNerdzLore Yeah, there's a big issue where you're missing the opening for the lore segment right after the ad finished. Probably want to fix that and re-upload this video.
I listened to it but I don't see what you mean. I didn't get into the lore on pellaeon so it does just jump from mentioning his role on the council to where he did, I didn't get into any more than that
@MetaNerdzLore it's an extremely awkward cut that goes from mentioning the shadow council, the ad, and then what seems like the second half of a sentence mentioning when Pellaeon died.
7:00 Imperial ship crew counts are actually the most realistic if you account for increased automation. Rebellion ships are critically undercrewed (300 to 500 times too small) compared to what they should be in order to properly function.
Star Wars Saga RPG is an awesome TTRPG, being d20 system it makes for ease of access. If you look at the underlying mechanics of KotOR you will see the d20 system. I would love to roll one more campaign using that system, alas my friends are too busy with life and scattered all over now.
The ammo is roughly 10x the cost. That puts a bit of a damper on training costs. The steel rimmed combat ammo, required to handle the 80,000psi, puts excessive wear on the barrel, bolt, gas, and recoil systems. The stated plan is a cheaper, lower pressure, all brass case version of the ammo. So you train with a weapon system that is different from what you are going into combat with (range, drop, penetration, zero, ECT). The scope is just that a scope. It can be recalibrated and put on ANY rifle, including the M4/M16. The m250 is more of a replacement for the m240 in 308/7.62x51. the m250 can be barrel swapped to that caliber, as can the M7. I have serious doubts on the round and there has been decades of research and billions spent the says assault rifles are better than battle rifles for general issue
Love the subject matter but the thumbnail shown is actually the Imperious class star destroyer in Legends. It is the larger successor ship to the Pellaeon class. Otherwise good video
I really wish the Bellator class got more love. Powerful enough to destroy anything its size or smaller. Fast enough to run down most things smaller then it, or straight outrun anything with more firepower. A true fast battleship, with enough fighters to screen itself, point defense to deal with anything that gets through the screen. Enough firepower to do a Base Delta Zero on its own, or soften ground forces so the ground forces it carries can wipe anything left over off the face of the map. The pellaeon might be a great replacement for the ISD2, but I would take the Bellator against an equal amount of Pellaeons any day. Which by length is a bit under 3.
i think on the Intridictor Front it was smarter building and more practicality that probably made that managable vs with the ISD and also the Empire probably made some ships less effective so they could get as many people operating them as possible thus also reducing one capabilty or another
I think the less than 2500 clues us in to the fact that it is really a Super Star Destroyer but is "short" like a Star Destroyer. What are your thoughts.
Pallaeon was such an interesting character in the Expanded Universe. That Star Destroyer is described like it looked great, and hit above its weight. Honestly Disney SW designs are mostly a fail. Yes the hero ships are amazing looking and well thought out, but the rest of the ships are just as important. Especially the ISDs.
I kinda have a problem with the explanation that small ships are more efficent. Do to scale effects bigger ships should always have more firepower and do to shields also far more survability. It should always have been a compromise between easier to destroy and less effiecnt smaller ships that ate more flexible and extremly big ships dor survivability and efficent firepower. A good mix kf those two would be the best thing. The terror explanation never made sense when the efficency explanation exists.
Would you be willing to do a video on my fan ship: Nuruodo Star Destroyer? I spoke to Timothy Zahn over 5 years ago, and made this ship from that. I commissioned Simon Coles to make the renders. ua-cam.com/video/fbbiFqOxE9U/v-deo.html&ab_channel=gundam2jimmy
Does he read these in one take? Parts where he makes mistakes in the reading he repeats and corrects. Usually it would be edited out. If its one take then that's ltt level dedication lol
If you are within the EU ("Legends" - nope, Disney: TRUE CANON!): Then the ISD can't enter an atmosphere (well: The Victory-I-Class can, but no other! The Victory-II can't, the Imperial-I and II-Class can't and a super-stardestroyer can't either (unless built there, like Lusankya!))

Could you do a breakdown on Klatoonians, from their appearance in Roth, Caravan of courage, the books, and mandalorian?
Thank you!
Sorry, but there is NEVER a "perfect time" to do a sponsor bit. No offense.
would love to know what star wars eaw did you play it.
Pellaeon Class Destroyer, huh? No wonder Moff Gideon was so miffed with him. Gideon was stuck commanding a mere Light Cruiser.
It's a really cool cruiser honestly. A small group of those are more effective than a single isd imo.
Wrong continuity
"What kind of man has a Star Destroyer named after him? No man. No man at all." - Moff -Gus- Gideon
Gideons cruiser was cool aa hell tho
The Pellaeon-class Star Destroyer is my favorite Imperial Star Destroyer variant. I'm also a big fan of the New Republic Nebula-class Star Destroyer.
I'm kinda on the fence with the Legacy Era designs, but god damn, the Imperial Fleet clearly got the best designs. And this is a thing of beauty

awhhh, dont call the little Crossfire ugly, you'll hurt it's feelings..and it's cool design
@@rekonener2362 At least the Shashore and Saberthooth are cool
@@nicolasheredia956 Yea. They are ok
No wonder Gideon was so mad at Palleon. He was jealous that Palleon was the inspiration of a Star Destroyer. I'd be peeved too.
That does tend to happen when you sit down, all your useless superiors and rivals develop the habit of throwing themselves to their deaths. Profit.
I especially love the TIE Predator in the thumbnail
That ship that looks like a death star with a ring around looks insane can't wait for the video to drop on that very excited
Pallaeon is underused as a character, I’d totally see him as a main character in a show about the wars between the New Republic and Imperial Remnants

Imperator class star deateoyers could do it, why bot the pelladeon

What a way to honor Pallaeon, with an awesome Star Destroyer.

A video on Interdictor Star Destroyers is long over due.
Cool! Thanks for this content. I hope Imperious will be made as well, it's my favorite in the Legacy era.
This is such a cool looking destroyer and powerful ship as well.
"And I was praising the scythe for it's 16...)
I can't believe that was left in!😂
Lol damn that's funny, I remembered 16 but paused to double check while recording cuz something seemed wrong with that
@MetaNerdzLore Is there anyway I could convince you to start putting a blooper real at the end of your vids?
I wonder how it'd stack up against Clone Wars and Imperial-Era vessels? Now I'm tempted to write a fanfic where one of these, with or without escorts, is sent back in time and ends up helping the Confederacy or something.
It would annihilate them.

I bet that forward "reactor" Bulb is probably a Gravity well generator bulb.
That makes more sense to me.
I do love this ship, probably my favorite of the post galactic civil war ships
except the bridge, I wish it had more of a pagoda style like the ISD
Speaking of transitional ships, would you ever consider a video on the Turbulent class Star Destroyer?
Though not as classic as an ISD, Pellaeon-class is my absolute favorite SD design.
FYI there was an audio skip at 6:09, which I assume was just a recording thing that you forgot to edit out?
5:15 what is the ship that the Pellaeon is fighting?
Here for the same question, would love to know
Maybe this is the Sabertooth-class assault ship? Hard to tell.
Would be a great Space Engineers ship, might steal this design.
🤔 . . . Could be a forward antenna that is supposed to detect things that’re usually undetectable & such…
