    As one of the people that helped pioneer running & building 2.3 turbo engines in non-SVO Mustangs back in the 90s... This makes me happy to see. People thought I was crazy swapping T-Bird engines into Mustangs & writing schematics to wire them in, until they saw some of the things we were doing made these things spank V8 cars. Glad to see other people carried it on even further.

      I just got one of these cars and I have no idea where to start on how to get it back to running, no fuel pressure at the rail but I already diagnosed that, the wiring in the engine bay looks like a nightmare to a novice like me

      I'm soon to build a '79 2.3 turbo pace car. I want to re route the original draw-thru carb setup and move towards blow thru careb or efi. Given your experience, what is your recommendation for this particular engine? Its important to keep in consideration that the car lives in Ecuador and stays most of its time at around 9 000 feet above sea level, so a dedicated carb seems as expensive as efi at this point.

    Proper machining tiggin and miggin right there! Absolutely beautiful work. The intake with the proper length bellmouths and the big plenum volume ❤️❤️❤️. You could sell them for a grand. I never understood those 3 inch pipe rigs they were selling back in the day. I want to do something like that using carbon because I have to pay for machining. I'll do a sendcutsend flange on both ends with carbon bellmouths and plenum. Right after I get that Blue Top head. Thinking about dual injectors, 2nd for Meth. Looks like 302 splayed main caps will bite into the meaty part towards the pan rail on small journal block followed by an align bore. I've never seen it before but it looks like a stronger part to me. When looking how the main webs tuck in under the main caps.

      some Ford fans invest in the C5 from the 1980's, it has better oiling than the C4 and takes a lockup torque converter. supposedly you can swap in a C4 valve body and go from there. It's the C3 that's the weak sister.

    Seeing this 'Stang makes me want to take the 2.5 internals, a 2.3 Lima block, and the 2.3L Duratec DOHC cylinder head and create a way to mate it all together, and at the end, make it a turbo car, with 8-10 lbs of boost. And for a drivetrain, use a Subaru or Focus AWD driveline system.

      You need a cylinder head that can flow at least 200 cfm on the intake. Use a cam that will give it more upper rpm range. Up the compression ratio. A tuned intake and exhaust manifold will help. MPGs depend on your foot control and tire pressures :)

    Hey Jon, Just wanted to get your advice on a cam for my esslinger SVO head. Its bare at the moment, I do have oversized valves and some old crane cams dual valve springs(99838-16) is the part number but I only have 8 or at least thats the box it came in haha. . I bought all this years ago and I have forgot some of the info. I am not sure if these are even compatible with this head? When it comes to heads and which cam etc, it gets confusing pretty fast for me. I am wanting to get this head assembled but I still need to pick a cam , any suggestions? Its just a nasty street/strip combo im putting together.

    • @svojon
      @svojon  4 роки тому +1

      Cams for the Esslinger SVO head need to have oil holes drilled into the journal area as the head itself doesn't supply oil to the cam through the 2,3,4 cam towers. Four holes are drilled and a single groove is usually the method used on 2,3,4 camshaft journals.
      For the springs (99838-16), you need to measure the installed height of your head. Crane recommends 1.65 inches for those springs. The SVO heads I have are 1.85 inches so those springs won't work. You need to know many more specs before you purchase the right springs.
      Picking the "right cam" depends on everything else about your combo (turbo, rear gear, trans type, etc...). You don't need anything aggressive if it's mostly for street use.

    • @spoolinsvt6489
      @spoolinsvt6489 4 роки тому

      @@svojon Hmm that is interesting. I have never heard of the extra holes needing to be drilled. The car isnt a full race car by any means. This is just another engine I am building on the side of the one I have right now.
      Currently have a bo port stage 3(or so i was told) with a 2.5 cam, bo port header and hx35 with a T5 tranny and a pimp.
      Eventually I will go with a nice C4 trans and shoot for 9's with the new head, shortblock and turbo set up. I am just looking for recommendations on a cam and springs for the SVO head so I can send it off to be assembled.

    • @svojon
      @svojon  4 роки тому

      Do you have the cylinder head in front of you? Look at the cam towers, do you see any oil feed holes in them? I'm going to guess NO. That's why the cam needs to be drilled. Doesn't matter if it's for race or street, still needs them either way.
      Who are you sending the head to for assembly?

    • @spoolinsvt6489
      @spoolinsvt6489 4 роки тому
