THIS IS THE KEY MOVE! I'm 58 years old, I play against guys in their 20s and 30s, and this was THE video that changed it all for me. Hitting is no longer a mystery. Start the swing with your lower body, get some hip shoulder separation, and making sure the right forearm rotates in a clockwise direction (that's the thought that gets me into that palm up, palm down position without creating any bat drag) like what's shown in this video, and so much of the rest of the swing falls into place. Thank you!!! (There are of course a few other things you have to do right, but this move with the trailing forearm was something I would never have figured out had I not seen this video, thank you again!!!)
A cue I use with my players for years now that I’ve taken from my sons hitting coach Bill “Mad Dog” Madlock is simply this: “Act like someone has a string attached to the point of your elbow and they are pulling it straight back on your lead arm”. Club ball players 9/10U seem to grasp this explanation rather simply. Combine it with one handed bat drills off a tee and soft toss using a heavier single handed bat causes them to stay short and pull hard. If all else fails, literally tie string to that lead elbow, have an assistant coach stay 3’ feet back and pull on it as the player is coming out of his load. Good stuff Matt.👍🏼
Jomboy did a video analyzing swings from a NY/CLE game 100 years ago, literally June 1920, and it's interesting to see how they badly they once swung. The "follow through" swing was a new thing, apparently pioneered by Ruth -- though I believe Babe was inspired by Shoeless Joe. Thanks for the continued content, Matt.
Great explanation on the kinetic chain of lead arm’s + lead hand’s role to have a complete swing. Has really helped us overcome the ‘arm bar’ negative that can fall into a swing at times. Thank you.
I finally understand how my arms work PROPERLY. Took MONTHS of studying everyday, but ive finally got it. I just have to figure out how to take what i know and apply it into my swing.
Matt, thanks again for another great video! Do you offer online virtual hitting lessons? Would love to get your analysis and tips to help my daughter with her hitting goals.
So timely! Was just trying to work this concept at BP last night with some of my players. I very much appreciate the clarity of the terminology you use and how slowly you broke down the path of the hands. Don't mind me, but I'm stealing your approach to try to better coach this next session! lol Cheers from the desert SW!
If everything but your hands is moving correctly then your arms will naturally work. You might have to get rid of batdrag, barrel drop, etc, but for the most part your arms will work properly.
I agree 100 percent a thing you might want to look at is by a golfer John Schlee and his video comparing Jo e Morgan swing to Ben Hogan swing he calls it the power planes it's shallower when my father scouted for Giants he got down the line to see how they took a pitch were they in a position to hit John Schlee described it as a world class move you are describing it but please look at that video understand that power PLANE (S) you are in a position for hands to take over I cannot STAND get in the slot or inside the baseball if you understand the planes you will move into the WORLD CLASS position THAT is where the swing starts the swing not the other parts of the total swing many great golf instructors teach off the the hitting zone text me back please

If all else fails, force them to watch a video about pullback.

This problem is huge and seen often. Great explanation of how the arms should work.
Another great video Matt.
Can't thank you enough.

Front arm only swings will teach the arm and upper torso to work in unison.

Love these videos! Also, those sweats are legit! :D
I liked before watching, I hope thats ok.
I then watched it, it was worth the like.

Matt is a genius!
Can you do one on the other one? Love this vids
Just what I needed to hear! Thank you!
Great video, thank you
Hey Matt can you make a video on hand position on your stride and how it affects your path to the ball?

I love the video! Really helps with my swing mechanics.
Great video! always learn something new!
Hi. I’ve started using my lead arm to start and generate power in my swing. The ball has been flying off the bat
Absolutely dig Matt’s videos. Please keep up the great work you do, we all appreciate the time you put in on your channel. Stay healthy and safe!
Tremendous!
Your neighbor's home is in the background; what can you tell us about them? And how about a blooper reel?
Lol

This is the number one problem I am seeing in players. Even high school players. Fix this and you jump ahead.
