My 19yr old daughter works at a high end restaurant and has been coming home complaining about being mis treated from her female and male managers. I laugh it off and encourage her to suck it up with my "welcome to the real world" speeches. Well today after listening to this episode she came home crying about being treated poorly by her manager, I then realized how precious and delicate a soul she is and she doesnt deserve this. I changed my tune and agreed that she should quit and start looking for a beter job. Thank you internet and thank you comeback podcast for communicating Gods words.
Good for you! There is nothing wrong with hard work and work ethic is a good thing to learn however, being emotionally abused cannot be tolerated! Especially when it's someone who holds a position over you. That adds intimidation to the mix. That is actually illegal in some cases.
I need to train my children to be aware of signs of narcissism and then to steer away from people exhibiting those traits. The trauma that this poor woman went through is so sad! Thank you for this first hand account!
Another great episode. I think this was really important. I have experienced a similar situation and so did one of my good friends. Someone told me, how can you follow this man who says he is going to marry you in the temple but does not follow the standards? There are several reasons why this can lead young women to fall into the trap. I’m super grateful that she did NOT marry this man. It sounds like she would have been miserable. I like that the spirit was always there to tell her what was right and she did eventually change her situation. I’m grateful that she had supportive parents. My whole family turned away from me when i was in the relationship which makes it ideal for this abuse to continue. I hope someday to tell my story and hope that it blesses others too. I really enjoy these podcasts and share often. Thank you and i wish this young lady all the happiness and blessings. She is brave.

I think this is an important episode that someone out there has listened to (probably many) who desperately needed to hear it. Please know: You don't have to tolerate abuse and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER feel pressured to marry someone you don't feel right about! If you have a friend in a similar situation have them listen to this! You never know..it could help save somebody.
What a beautiful story. I'm 65, and grew up in an abusive (active) LDS home. It really skewed my understanding of the gospel. I went through 2 physically, sexually, emotionally and financially abusive marriages, and had so much shame about divorce, poor parenting and so many other things. I was blessed to have been pushed by the Lord into a 12-step recovery process, where I got to experience the grace of Christ which literally changed me from the inside out, and as you said, my life today is as if all that never happened. I'm joyfully married in the temple to the most loving and worthy Priesthood holder I could ever have dreamed of. We are, in his words this morning, living the eternal dream. Thank you for sharing this story and helping remove the shame that too often comes from our misunderstanding of the gospel teachings.

Okay, this episode hits close to home. It is a topic we dont like to talk about, but is seriously so important. First of all she was pressured, coerced, gaslite and tricked into doing things she didnt want to do. She was a people pleaser and a peacemaker and abusers look for women /(men) like that. Then she feels extreme guilt and remorse and beacuse of the nature of the situation doesnt reach out to anyone for help. Having been through a similar situation, i will teach my daughters (and sons) about this. What it looks like, who they can talk to for help, etc. Great interview!!!! Also, i also struggled with feeling guilty and knowing how much was my fault. I beat myself up for not doing more to stop it but my leaders also told me i had been taken advantage of and it was not my fault. That helped, but the trauma is still there. It will take time to heal. I feel like ive flipped a 180. Ive put up with a lot of passive aggressive and narcissistic women (and men) and i dont get mad or react really at all, but now im angry. I dont want to be taken advantage of anymore.

Ohmygoodness!!! To think that he had that much control at such an early point in their relationship. I feel like She would have never been allowed to be around her family again after they got married. He tried to control literally every aspect of her life! She was obviously assaulted over and over! If I were her parents I would want to confront that jerk and tell him what for! I'm so glad she got out of that!!! God bless her!!! ❤❤❤

People in the church that do not live the way Christ taught us to live is so very sad and heartbreaking since members should be trying to be an example of Christ’s Gospel. Members are not perfect, for sure, but we should do our very best. What we say and do DOES AFFECT others.
Her abusive ex will literally feel and see how his actions affected her when it is his time for his life review. What goes around - comes around.
She will be a great asset to many people in her lifetime and although her experience is heartbreaking and so very difficult she will most definitely be one of the Lord’s strongest assets.

Oh my gosh. I was married to a narcissist abuser, I’m so glad that you escaped that relationship alive. I almost didn’t escape alive. My doctor said the next time he saw me was gonna be in a casket if I didn’t leave them. Your ex definitely had all the red flags of a narcissist abuser.

I'm impressed with being able to have called it off like that. I wasnt able to do so. It was the best day when it finally ended. Im so glad to hear she healed.
This story is more common than we know. Like one person said, yes please teach your kids about abusers and to say no. I kicked a friend’s boyfriend out for being abusive and all our friends said I needed to be nicer to him. I read everything I could get my hands on from the apostles (before smart phones) and stood up to them saying, “The most loving thing you can say to an abuser is NO.”

What a great story and testimony, I find it interesting that the majority of the Book of Mormon is all about Alma the younger and his “come back story”. The Lord knew we needed to hear his story
