Is ego death for the practitioner of atma vichara the same as it was for Bhagavan? From the external perspective, in other words, will there appear to be a dead body devoid of breath? If it is only by special divine grace that Bhagavan's body was restored to life after Venkataraman's death experience, is atma vichara expected to induce the death of the body as it did for his body?
In case it is of help, happinessofbeing.blogspot.com/2017/03/there-is-only-one-ego-and-even-that.html (‘… Therefore when sages like Bhagavan and Muruganar sing about the experience of sat-cit-ānanda, their bodies and minds are being used by grace to sing thus for our benefit.’)
A body exists only because an ego seems to exist. When ego dies all phenomena including a body vanishes. What remains is that what we truly are, atma-swarupa, pure awareness. Bhagavan's body was not restored, that happened only for the mind of onlookers. Thus the death of ego of "us" will be exactly the same as it was for Bhagavan, Jesus, and all other Jnanis.
@@Chad-vo8pzthat's still a tricky question for me. why is 1 Common ego mentioned (like a hub that never dies) and at same time multiple, separate, seemingly Personal egos (like Bhagavan's) to be anihilated. Or it is correct?
@@nikibotev5478 It's quite difficult to wrap one's head around that. I believe Bhagavan stated that there is only one self/mind. If mind is attending only itself it is atma-swarupa and if it is attending phenomena it simultaneously grasps form and believes to be in a body and world. Usually, and that is the only "state" we know, is us attending to phenomena, a "world". Since we believe to be a body we automatically believe in the reality of a world and other bodies like loved ones. That feels very real and is the experience of everybody. Now if there is only one ego/mind, who are all the others we see including our own body? That is a creation/projection of mind/ego. That one ego projects phenomena, a body, "my" body, and a world with other bodies. All of that is not real and an imagination, a dream. If your wife or girl friend kisses you, that is an imagination, these sense experiences are entirely a fabrication of mind. There are no entities, personalities or personal ego's (except in the psychological sense which has nothing whatsoever to do with the ego of Bhagavan), only one ego/mind. And only from our own viewpoint. That means from my viewpoint everybody is an imagination including you and all figures in the past like Bhagavan, Ramakrishna, Genghis Khan and so on. For "you" everybody is an imagination including a "Chad" and a "Michael James" but your self. It's the paradox of ego, it only seemingly exists and therefore it cannot be really annihilated. From the viewpoint of ego it will be seemingly annihilated with persistent atma-vichara. That what only exists is pure awareness. And that awareness is not aware of an ego and phenomena or a world. Thus Bhagavan has never existed nor has a body called Bhagavan existed, only from the viewpoint of ego/mind. One can say that Bhagavan and the Buddha (in their physical form) are manifestations of atma-swarupa, manifestations of grace appearing within a dream as dream characters to point the way out of this dream. We truly are dreaming since "birth" and that dream will only end, forever if we stop entirely to attend to phenomena, or temporary when we "die" only to begin another dream/life with a new "birth". Why are we being born again? Because there is still an interest left for this phenomenal world, for this phantasy of a world with many bodies in it. That interest will vanish with atma-vichara. What does that mean for us and how can that help us? The mere intellectual knowledge that there is no ego does not help us since it is our strong experience that we are, indeed, this ego who believes to be in a body. And that's why Bhagavan suggested to practice atma-vichara, attending as best as we can to that what we truly are and with that we automatically ignore everything else. In the beginning of course phenomena and thoughts will be there but they are slowly diminishing. Thoughts are not real and according to Bhagavan our natural state is thoughtless. An effortless thoughtless state which is not really a state since manonasa is impossible to describe or imagine. At the point of manonasa we will not perceive any phenomena, no world or universe, we won't perceive anything, there will be no sense perception of any kind, all things which are hard to imagine from our dull mind/ego. We won't be "nothing" or emptiness or a void, just pure awareness.
