    Daniel is right, late night Indian food in the UK is amazing when you're drunk. There's an indian restaurant in the student area of Sheffield that pretty much just serves food to students at 1am which is also incredible. Great videos btw!

    Just tried this yesterday for the first time and it’s instantly one of my favorite whiskies. Amazing stuff! Never made the connection that it would be made to mix with water or ice. Makes sense because the Amrut stuff is strong! Also tried the Amrut single malt cask strength which is also great. Makes me want to try other scotch-style whiskies from around the world.

    Single malt production culture is new to India, if they master the art, they can seriously produce world class products in this segment, more exploration has to happen in different parts of India to produce single malts since India has variety of climates..

    Hi, Englishman (London) here, yes we have great Indian food, point in fact, my local curry house is award winning. But then my second local chippy is also award winning. As for British food, it's about as bland and tasteless as it gets, so anything else taste great. I love my city.
    Also Pubs/Bars can apply for a license to stay open longer now. Night clubs have always been different. I've rocked out of a club in Camden Town at 5am and the first place we all go is to get a KEBAB.

      Speak for yirsel' Jason, in Scotland we have the culinary delights of porridge, haggis and deep fried Mars bars! Also I believe Glasgow is the curry capital of Britain (probably to cleanse their palate after drinking Buckfast and Irn Bru all day!).
      Thankfully, we do know how to make the best spirits in the world, so that's something! :D

      The aging process in that part of India takes a lot less time than in Scotland, because of much higher temperatures, humidity and the weather in general.

    I know you get millions of suggestions on whiskeys to try, but I just had a fantastic new(ish) one today.
    Bull Run Distillery has a Single Malt Whiskey that is completely Oregon. The malted barley is from southern Oregon and it's aged 4 years in new Oregon Oak barrels. It's sort of a cross between scotch and bourbon and I'm in love.

    Daniel, also a huge Bourdain fan. If you haven't already, check out his earliest show A Cook's Tour. Really enjoyable but really interesting to see where he's come in the last 15 yrs or so.
    As a local and 8th generation Texan (specifically a Texican as family was in Texas before seceded from Mexico. Had family that fought on both sides of Alamo, so we won no matter how you look at it), I like supporting Texas distilleries. Other than the obvious ones (Balcones, Garrison Bros) are there any lesser known ones you are fans of? I see on the vault list you have a Rebecca Creek. What's up with that? Saw the TX Blended show (Ep 16). Any other Texas ones you like? Also, have you checked out the guys at the Drinkin' Texas UA-cam channel. All they drink is stuff from Texas (More than just whiskey).
    Keep up the great works.

      Very cool! I'll check out the show.
      Love the Texas history. My family was also around before, but only on one side of the battle :-)
      I really love the new stuff that Treaty Oak is doing. Ranger Creek is amazing but a bit pricey. Honestly, there's so many new ones, it's hard to keep up.

    You should do a new toast every episode or every series you film. Some of my favorites are, "Friends may come and friends may go but whisky is here to soothe the soul." "May our sons have rich fathers and beautiful mothers." "To the kisses we've snatched and vice versa." "May you be in heaven at least an hour before the devil knows you're dead."

    Hey Guys,
    First off thanks for getting me addicted to whiskey! Since discovering your videos several weeks ago I’ve accumulated such a collection I’ve had to turn our spare room into my own vault. Also wife is not too happy that I cancelled a holiday to buy more Whiskey. However, silver lining is we’ve discovered that she in fact loves whiskey now too. It was the lighter fruit and apple flavor in the Hakushu Distillers Reserve that hooked her.
    On another note I’d like to hear your comparison of Ardbeg 10 and Lagavulin 8. I have them both here and I swear they taste almost exactly the same. Perhaps my palate is not yet fine enough to distinguish them.

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 років тому +2

      Great news! But most important thing. Keep the wife happy. Get her more Japanese whisky. If the wife's not happy, there's not enough whisky in the world to fix that.
      I love the Ardbeg and Lagavulin comparison idea. I'll test it out!

      Hahah yes I hit the lotto discovering her interest in Whiskey. Very much enjoying the hobby (obsession). Will come visit you guys one day and take a course. A long way though, from Perth Australia here. Would be interesting to see how Whiskey ages here, dry climate. Lows of 0 degrees C to high of 47 degrees C.

    Fun fact: Case Bonita is actually still there, still in business. Literally nothing has changed in there since, like, the early 90s? Except the prices have gone up. And it has *not* aged well. If I ever win the lottery, one of the things I'll try do is buy it out and at least replace the food with some real Mexican food, if not update the whole joint.

    Im from Colorado and I agree with Daniel, Casa bonita is the worst food you can get. It almost impressive how they have managed to remove all flavor from everything on the menu and make it taste like cardboard or water. Salsa... taste like water, tacos... taste like cardboard, nachos... you guessed it cardboard, margarita... taste like vodka with water and green food coloring. Im almost positive the honey for the sopapillas is just simple syrup with E150 coloring in it. However if you bring a flask of good whiskey and your kids to this place, it’s magical for everyone.

  • @jaypod

    London doesn't have better Indian food than India. That's absurd. Many of the Indian restaurants are actually run by Bangladeshi and Pakistanis, not saying that it's bad in any way. But it's not authentic Indian food. But the chicken tikka curry and chips served at most pubs are heavenly.

    Weird question here boys. I just bought a load of English sparkling wine. The thinking here is because the climate is getting warmer, the UK is producing some really decent wines these days. Are the scottish whisky producers making allowances for the rising climate? American producers? It seems like as as climate warms., it's going to effect whisky production, at least from an "Angel Share" perspective. Whatchareckon?
    And yes, the Indian food in the UK kicks ass.....

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 років тому +1

      We don't need to worry about climate until the temp change is crazy dramatic. And it really only affects barrels, so as long as you can build warehouses that can do more with temp variants, we'll be okay for awhile.
      UK Indian. Yum.

    In my country its hard to find a lot of whisk(e)ys , but today i found Laphroaig 10yo. I've never tried or seen an Islay before, so i'm very curious My problem is that im a student so i cant really afford to buy a whisky i wont like xD. My favorite is Glenfiddich 12yo, Johnny walker black i like but find it very simple and smooth, red label i like but also very bland, Jack Daniels Single Barrel i like but find too sweet, chivas regal 12yo dont really like, and ballantines i despise. I was curious if you think (based on little info i just gave) would i like the Laphroaig 10yo ? P.S. so far all whisk(e)ys i tried i liked except the ballantines.

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 років тому +1

      I think you would. Or it will ruin you. But I've found that even people who dig the Laphroaig also like it on the rocks. So if it's too harsh, you could always add water or ice. But the flavor is totally it's own category. ua-cam.com/video/F_ivP4xqeZo/v-deo.html

    I think traditional food from the UK and Ireland is cravable comfort food. You have to remember that they spent centuries at war with someone so that migration of spices, flavours and even cooking ideas didn't really happen like in the rest of Europe. Anything that did catch on only did so because it was a stable food stuff and could survive shipping.. think tea, potatoes, mustard etc. The colonisation and immigration was the thing that introduced the foods we pretty much call our own today.

      Looks like it can be spelled either way. Same thing. From Wikipedia: "Welsh rarebit or Welsh rabbit is a dish made with a savoury sauce of melted cheese and various other ingredients and served hot, after being poured over slices of toasted bread, or the hot cheese sauce ..."

      Rex The welsh are an odd bunch, they call a microwave a popty ping. From memory Welsh Rarebit isn't bad but to be honest the best molten cheese delivery method will always be the American grilled cheese sandwich.

Very few people have actually sampled the whisky in question but those who have swear by it. Its called Solan No. 1 and legend goes that the brewery was founded by a scottsman when he came to Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh and remarked how very Scottish it looked.
    The brew in question isnt expensive, its ₹300-500 which is like $5-10 but people say it truly deserves the "whisky" label.
    Too bad its almost impossible to find outside of Himachal Pradesh for some odd reason.

    I and have been intrigued by the great range and contrast of scores from Distiller.com which is fairly low by the pro taster @ 84
    and only 3.64 from 421 reviewers and Jim Murrays score of 97 (possibly he was smoking some wacky tobacco at
    the time) My bottle I just purchased
    here in So Cal in mid-2020 and just cracked is from a different year and there may be cask
    variation to consider plus just opening vs. reviewing again after the neck
    pour. For me on initial tasting I have to agree with the distiller community
    but I am looking forward to see what happens with some oxidation. Slainte’

    What's with the hate on English food? We have some fantastic food, it's just slightly more subtle than the brash in your face fodder that you are used to.
    Oh and the best are to get a curry is from the Balti Triangle in Birmingham. There are hundreds of restaurants in a small area and it is far better than London.
    Keep up the good work, I'm loving all the more obscure Whisky's.

      I think England is just starting to get back into making their own. That's pretty awesome.

    hey guys, forgive the pseudonym, best I could do. Real name is Matt.
    I found your channell by drunkedly stumbling upon it, and have been binge watching the content. I am hoping for a suggestion.
    I started my scotch journey with primarily Speyside and a bit of Highland. Glenfiddich, Macallan, Aberlour Blair Athol (for shame not having this in the vault) etc. unknowingly, I stumbled into Islay by buying a bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail. So the first glass was a fight, and it got better after glass 3 and 4. To the question...any suggestions on an Islay that isn't as "fuck you I'm Scottish" as my choice? Looking for a friend.

So thanks for making me a whisky drinker.
