- Hello Friends -
I found some ancient footage of my friends and me being silly at Highland Mall circa Spring of 1990. The audio did not transfer correctly so I piped in some music. This was filmed in the far section toward Foley's (later to become Macy's) near the Gap, Hallmark Store and Food Court (which you can barely make out at times). This was a special place for many mall rats like myself in the 80's and 90's with Goldmine Arcade, Luby's, Joske's, Scarbrough's, etc.
Although ACC Highland purchased the property and converted most of it over to new classrooms / facilities beginning in 2016, this particular section of Highland Mall is pretty much still untouched in the current ACC Building 4000. The ACC Bookstore and other ACC departments are in this structure, but the escalators, fountain and other mall staples are still there.
Please check out my other Austin, TX broadcasting / radio / TV / Dead Malls memories on my channel. Thanks for viewing!
Holy damn. This is literally in my child hood time frame. The days when 6th st was still clean. You could literally walk around st night without a problem. Leslie was still alive and running for mayor.
Man, times have changed.
Omg I remember Leslie ! What happened to her ?
@@Chelle51288 passed away unfortunately :(
I miss those days too :)
WE NEED MORE OF THIS, I USED TO WORK AT JW FROM 96-99!!!
I'm hoping to find more footage in my archives. Stay tuned!
Jeans west
I JUST SAW MY STORE, JW!!! WEELL, BEFORE I WAS OLD ENOUGH TO WORK THERE, LOLOLOL.
This is where I go to school right now! 📚🦇❤️
I had a chance to swing by that campus recently, it's gorgeous! Hope you're enjoying being there. The area that this video was recorded in still exists, I think it's building 4000? Same escalators and upstairs / downstairs area. Like a time capsule. :)
I worked at Highland Mall theatre in 1991. Cape Fear, Aladin, and JFK played at that time. The boss was
a former cop from Dallas-nice guy but kinda of a hardass. There was a hot assistant manager-forgot
her name? Good memories.
I saw tons of films at that theater, great times!
I REMEMBER THE LAST MOVIE I SAW THERE WAS 'BATMAN' AND BEFORE THAT WAS BREWSTER'S MILLIONS, LOLOLOLOL
Thank you for this and all your posts. Native Austinite here and I crave any old school footage of Austin. I have yet to see any Barton Creek Mall home movies or footage from the eighties though. Anybody know of any? Just subscribed to your channel today without hesitation.
Thank you for the comments! I am hoping to dig up some more mall footage in my archives, no matter how small it may be. Stay tuned! God Bless!
