Good for you in showing that sales rep what’s up. As for Toyota dealerships selling for MSRP, that depends on the area of the country. Here in northern Virginia you will not find any dealerships selling for MSRP. Another reason I’m buying American and not Toyota anymore. I was able to get a 2024 Suburban and 2024 Escalade ESV UNDER MSRP! Meanwhile Toyota dealerships are marking up their Sequoias $20,000 plus. No thanks. Goodbye Toyota.
I’ve never worked at a dealership, but I did order a 2021 4Runner TRD Pro from Pauly Toyota (IL.), during the plandemic, and they were great. I paid MSRP for mine. I would buy from them again. I’ve called other dealerships in the Chicagoland area recently, and they’re tacking on ceramic coatings or other things that the customer doesn’t have a choice on. That’s not right, imo.
As long as you have people that are willing to pay any price, this will continue. I can't believe how they can charge over MSRP and essentially name their price with impunity. Manufacturers are also responsible for this situation given how little inventory they release to keep a delicate balance in favor of demand so it outpaces the supply.
I usually just let the sales person know what price I’m willing to pay, currently that’s MSRP for hard to get vehicles. I have a different view on mark-ups. While I don’t like them (and won’t pay them), I don’t blame the dealerships for trying to get a higher price. Lots of people would just game the system, just look at cars and bids, they have 3 rivians a week, all sold over MSRP with under 500 miles.
I put a down payment yesterday on the Land Cruiser in TN. My dealership verbally promised to go by Toyota's suggest sales price. This particular dealership did point to a competitor in a town nearby and said they do exactly what you said here.
Beginning of 2020 bought new Tacoma TRD from Cherokee County Toyota, Canton, Ga. got it below MSRP and it was loaded to the max. 2022 came around and bought a 4runner limited loaded for MSRP and couldn't believe it. Great staff to deal with plan on going back when new 4runner comes out.
We took our Camry to McDonald Toyota in Greeley for service. In addition to the top dollar pricing for some basic maintenance service they charged us a 17% dealership fee. They did do a great job. I looked at the stickers of various new models during our lengthy wait. ALL of the cars had dealer markups on them.
Great video, as always. Thanks for sharing. Tony Divino toyota in Ogden UT was selling everything right at msrp. My family has bought 2 tacomas from them. Highly recommend them.
I walked into a Toyota dealership in Chesapeake Va and was looking to purchase a new Tundra. When I sat down to talk price they gave me a price 20K over MSRP. My jaw dropped. I told the salesperson I have never in my life paid a market adjustment on a vehicle and it wasn't starting today. I have to also wonder because I pulled up in a 22 Escalade that they figured I had money to burn and was stupid enough to do it. Horrible, horrible people trying to take advantage of the public like that.

@@UntamedMotors on the other hand I just moved to Colorado and trying to find allocations or any kind of genuine help was impossible so I stuck with my local dealership and shipped it over. Did the same on my hybrid rav4 and there was an insane amount of additional stuff and games like its “unobtainium”. I Told them, you know what at 7% interest and additional mark-up, i’m going to keep my current toyota and get a hybrid velar. Never regretted it.
The dumbest thing about them doing these markups is that you can usually call other dealerships, get a MSRP price, FLY OUT ON A PLANE to that location and drive back with the car for less than the markup. When I look for a car, I tell EVERY dealership my buy range is 5 hours or less from my house. That means every dealership is Phoenix (where I live), Tucson, Flagstaff, Las Vegas, LA, San Diego and a few others are in play.
The only way to stop this nonsense is to stop paying the markup. Everyone should just refuse to buy anything that’s marked up and search till you find a dealer who doesn’t markup their vehicles and buy from them.
Toyota Direct in Columbus Ohio and Kings Toyota near Cincinnati Ohio. Not only do they not have mark ups, they offer discounts! Toyota of Cleveland (TN) offered me Grand highlander hybrid max at MSRP plus doc fee. No market adjustment or dealer installed options. Even though I ended up not buying it, had a great experience with them. Called a couple other dealerships and Toyota Direct in Columbus OH seemed not to have market adjustment, but Brunswick Toyota (Cleveland OH) had 3.5k adjustment
Edmark Toyota just outside Boise Idaho is charging me MSRP for one of their first allocated Grand Highlander Hybrid Limited. Highly recommend Nate as a rep. He contacted me at every single allocation and found exactly what we wanted on a dealer swap.
I'm in Dallas and Huffines never charged me over MSRP. I agree with you screw the dealerships that do this ADM. What good id it to make a 55K car only to be 70K when all is said and done
Lol I will just buy a used one when it is time. Probably from EchoPark since they priced some stuff a bit more reasonable than other used lots. I got our 4Runner that way, $4k under comparable dealers. So I’m that case… I will wait.
Just checked my locals. All three charge market adjustment and or overpriced additions. Laughed it off and left. Supply and demand, not much we can do about it except hope FED raises interest rates faster.
I am fortunate that the dealership I've used for my Toyota products (Crown Toyota Lawrence, KS) did not participate in ADM's for the 4Runner TRD PRO I bought this year, unlike the other dealerships in my city to the west and in the Kansas City area that I checked. I went back to them after having a great experience with a Tundra I bought from them back in 2020. Very easy dealership to work with.
New to Virginia and looking for a great Toyota dealership within the VB/Chesapeake or South to North Carolina selling vehicles at MSRP. DO NOT buy from Southern dealers. They add three additional items to the car that you don't need, low-jack types system, paint protection etc. If you dont' want it, that doesn't matter. They will not take it away or drop the vehicle sale price to make the difference. Stay away from Southern dealers in the VB area. Thanks for the help.
I had a 6 yr business with a Chevy dealer. Then they played the market price game... Now I drive a ford... And I got the car 5000 miles away because local dealers play the same game
Sounds like many dealerships are still under the assumption that they are in the driver's seat and customers are desperate for vehicles. Shout out to my local dealership, Vancouver Toyota, in WA state who sold me my '22 4Runner TRD Pro at MSRP during peak pandemic madness. Thanks, Untamed.
I got my tacoma 2022 with 2k markup but it was standard for all vehicles and they implemented it before the pandemic. I traded my silverado 2015 LTZ and they said 30k for the trade in but I asked to talk to his manager. The manager was so cocky he said "nobody will want that gas guzzler" I almost walked after 2 months of waiting or my tacoma to come in. So I talked to my sales rep and he apologized and he told me he would talk to the manager. The sale rep talked to his manager and they looked at my truck again and they gave me 35500 trade in for it. A month later the used car prices plumented and KBB said it was 32k. I got the exact truck i wanted, and I got a great trade in deal. This was foothills toyota in Burlington Washington. I will never forget that sales rep. Awesome guy. It's also important to say they were the lowest markup in the entire western Washington area and I think even lower than Eastern Washington. I tried to get in contact with my hometown in idaho and they didn't give me the light of day. No markups there but they didn't work with me plus it would have been a 32 hour trip.
I am not a car salesman nor am I associated with Toyota. All I can say is whoever is willing and able to pay will get the car, especially a hot in demand car like the LC. I expect to get top dollar when I sell my car and dealer expects to maximize their returns as well. Bought my wife a 2024 Lexus NX350H in April and I paid MSRP, no add ons and no forced finance since I paid cash in full. Last 2 years dealers were asking $3-5k in ADM and I refused to play into that game. A $60k+ car is not a necessity, it is a pure want item.
I'm in the Los Angeles area, lots of Toyota dealerships here, and you can't by any Toyota vehicles without a dealer markup on it. I'm just looking for a 2WD Tacoma with a crew 'cab' and the lowest ADM I could find is $1500, highest is $3000. I'm not waiting for the 2024 Tacomas to come out, I know those are going to have pretty high ADMs on them. The other auto brands' dealerships are all getting nicely stocked back up so Toyota is going to lose me as a 30 year customer.
Back in 2017 I bought a Trd pro at MSRP. I told the salesman I’ve never paid MSRP for a vehicle and he told me he had never sold one at MSRP. How times have changed. I just bought another one at MSRP but had to go through 8 dealerships to find one at MSRP. I refuse to pay markup as we all should.
Having wanted a Land Cruiser for the last 30 years I knew this new one was going to be marked up big time so I'm just going to get my popcorn and watch the fun.
I got the same answer , I called a local Lexus dealer asking about the new GX550 , he said they are taking orders but the will be a 5K$ mark up . I told where to go .

The Gault Toyota in Endicott told us they are marking the Land Cruiser up 15000$ even when they’re salesmen don’t even know nothing about a new land cruiser coming to the us back but when they go back to supervisor they’ve been told to tell us that yeah it’s going to be rare vehicles and we are marking it up 15000$ . can you people believe that the salesmen doesn’t know about the car nothing but his boss already planned on marking up 15000$ this is fucking INSANITY
Yeah it’s a shame Toyota has allowed these ugly practices to continue… I don’t blame you for jumping ship. Congrats!
Thanks for sharing
As long as you have people that are willing to pay any price, this will continue. I can't believe how they can charge over MSRP and essentially name their price with impunity. Manufacturers are also responsible for this situation given how little inventory they release to keep a delicate balance in favor of demand so it outpaces the supply.
Thank you for the information.
That is disgusting what they are doing.
They should beg us to buy ….
If you are in the DFW area, Family Toyota in Arlington and Burleson. Both do MSRP and have been honest in my interactions with them.
Good honest dealers still exist! Thank you for sharing this insight. =]
Unfortunately this tactic will keep me from buying one if that’s the case.
Liked the message behind this video. Thanks for the FYI!! 😎👍🏼
I put a down payment yesterday on the Land Cruiser in TN. My dealership verbally promised to go by Toyota's suggest sales price. This particular dealership did point to a competitor in a town nearby and said they do exactly what you said here.
What part of TN are you in?
Their used inventory seemed overpriced but the new models were all at sticker when I’ve bought from them a couple times now.
Great video, as always. Thanks for sharing. Tony Divino toyota in Ogden UT was selling everything right at msrp. My family has bought 2 tacomas from them. Highly recommend them.
Thanks for name dropping MacDonald, I live in Loveland and was thinking about the new taco. I will be chatting with them
wow what a beautiful view of the rolling hills and blue skies
Thanks man 🙏🏼
Good ole Wyoming! 🤠
Corporate office at Toyota should know that this is not right.
Firelands Toyota in Sandusky OH sold me a new Camry SE for Invoice. I had a Toyota employee certificate and they honored it.
I so wish we could by direct from manufacture. It’s tooo bad the folks in Washington won’t allow that to happen.
Was it priority toyota?
I wish my company would rise my salary as fast as the mark ups in everting else, specially in the house and car market.
I would have done the same. The greed now a days has gotten out of hand.
I hope Toyota can step in and address these markups at the dealer level but i know that may be wishful thinking.
It's going to be so hard for them to quit on the markup strategy, saying no to extra cash, mmm I haven't seen that happened.
Your experience is why I haven't bought a new car in 20 years, and plan to always buy used. In Colorado, McDonald is good and so is the Schomp group.
Custom ordered a 2023 Lexus GX 460 in January from Lexus of Honolulu and it was a great experience! I was told they never sell above MSRP! Both Servco Toyota/Lexus of Hawaii!!
That’s great to hear man, thank you for sharing with the group!
@@UntamedMotors on the other hand I just moved to Colorado and trying to find allocations or any kind of genuine help was impossible so I stuck with my local dealership and shipped it over. My advice is speak to as much dealerships as possible, there are good ones and last don’t fall for basic sales tactics!
Toyota of Stanford, Connecticut, I bought my Land Cruiser in 2021 MSRP, when other dealers were asking for $115,000. Those guys were great!!
The markups aren’t because of bills…it’s pure greed! Consumers need to walk away, but they won’t.
The only way to stop this nonsense is to stop paying the markup. Everyone should just refuse to buy anything that’s marked up and search till you find a dealer who doesn’t markup their vehicles and buy from them.
same thing down here in miami still going on on a 23 4runner and a gx 450 2000 over sticker
Toyota Direct in Columbus Ohio and Kings Toyota near Cincinnati Ohio. Not only do they not have mark ups, they offer discounts! Really it's most Toyota dealers in the Cincinnati sales Region which includes Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. We feel sorry for those in the Gulf states and Southeast sales regions; their all rip off specialist. West coast to!
That’s great to hear, thanks for sharing!
Not surprised! I’m sure my local dealer will do the same thing. I thought about getting on list as well. But not 100% sure about the power plant
Yeah I’m not sold on the idea either. BUT I figured it wouldn’t hurt to get in a list and when the time came -if it ever came… I’d reassess and decide then.
@@UntamedMotors ya that’s a good plan for sure 👍
That’s awesome to hear, congrats man! Appreciate you sharing with the group here too. 👍
I'm in Dallas and Huffines never charged me over MSRP. I agree with you screw the dealerships that do this ADM. What good id it to make a 55K car only to be 70K when all is said and done
Yep, no F-in surprise.
I agree with you, we can’t normalize markups.
Lol
I will just buy a used one when it is time. Probably from EchoPark since they priced some stuff a bit more reasonable than other used lots. I got our 4Runner that way, $4k under comparable dealers. So I’m that case… I will wait.
I’m keeping my 2021 TRD ORP 4Runner, very happy.
Just checked my locals. All three charge market adjustment and or overpriced additions. Laughed it off and left. Supply and demand, not much we can do about it except hope FED raises interest rates faster.
Why leaving this unscrupulous dealership nameless??? Make them famous!!!😮💨
That is great to hear, thanks for sharing. Good honest dealers still exist. 🙌
And I got the car 5000 miles away because local dealers play the same game
this is with all dealerships but especially brands with trucks and off road vehicles. It’s time to just have an option to buy direct!
Not all dealership. We are all fine here in Europe. Actually we still get discounts and some free goodies here. Bullsht Americans.
Thank for the info and your honesty.
Mr.Untamed on camera! Nice change up buddy, keep learning! 100k subscribers in no time!!! :]
I had a similar encounter in a SOCAL dealership. Advised they Heritage would be about $30-50k above asking. Salesman told me "gotta pay to play"
My salesperson at Fred Anderson Toyota in Raleigh, NC would not sell a vehicle for more than MSRP.
Recorded horizontally:)
I'll buy it toward the end of the life cycle just like my 22 GX. I'm not in a hurry.
I'm a dealerships worst nightmare....the last car I bought I kept for 14 years. I now own a 2020 Toyota 4Runner...guess how long I'll keep this one.
14 years?
@@TrumpWon45-47 correct bought the Toyota 1 year before selling the old car.
Good video, New Subscriber. Thank you! 🎉
Molle Toyota - Kansas City was awesome to work with on a 4Runner and Tundra in 2021. MSRP with a struggling lot. Great service, ask for Kyle.
