Being a stupid, crazy kid, I wrecked it drag racing at a spot where hundreds of muscle cars met to make purple smoke from burn-outs and races. It was insane. Around 1 a.m. the cops would put the fire hydrants on to end the racing ! I'm talking 3- 400 of these cars and thousands of people !! Going back 40yrs ago. PEACE from Philadelphia

@@waelomar7065 Sure. 440 cubic inches. It's a measurement of how big the engine is. It was the largest engine Chrysler made also known as Mopar (Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge products are all Mopar). The classic Mopars Chargers, Challengers, Cuda's go for crazy money today. A professionally restored Challenger R/T goes for upwards of $ 100,000 ! R/T stands for Road/Track. The car was set up for both road driving and track. Better suspension, etc.
I had a burgandy mist 69 w-30 (400cuin) 4spd muncie m-22 cr w 4.33 posi rear bought new on my order in fall of 68. A major sleeper, the night before i put 3.42's in it because of all the highway miles, I dumped a hemi-cuda with it. NOBODY knew what a W-30 was. i actually traded in a 67 442 w cr 4 spd and 3.90's which i had ordered fall of '66 6 months out of eng school. Both were pretty much stock with some ignition tweaks and quadrajet work I had figured out. Brings back memories as I approach 80 this summer.
Nice ride, quiet, tons of torque and good ol R12 AC that could actually get too cold on a 110 deg day. Todays ac have stronger blower motors but never get super cold
Had a 67 442 in high school loved that car it was nothing but power and performance these modern dayers today don't know about raw power miss the old day muscle cars they were real not like the junk they make today

I can't imagine how hard it was to get all that chrome trim! Then to getting the body right to where it fits. I graduated HS in 1981 and the ones I saw looked rough, that trim...
Very unique color. Don't remember too many of these, specially in a hrd top. Beautiful car. Surprised to see pwr steering, yet no power brakes. Glad it doesn't have A/C. Good video. Shows all the important parts.
I know there are faster cars, more fuel-efficient but there isn't many cars of today I'd rather be seen driving. Guarantee, you'd have more looks, finger-pointing and photos taken of this car than 95% of cars made today under $150,000. I know it would grab me !!!!
Yes - correct. I’ve replied to an earlier comment by Ronnie Mantovani and posted a link for NHRA stock records back in 1968. Have a look - W-30’s were contenders….even with the long stroke 400.
It's little brother the Ram Rod and W31 350 F85s and Cutlass S were no slouch either, same camshaft and large valve heads as it's big brother 455, set many NHRA records back in the day, also sent some big block powered machines home with their tails between their legs. Wicked fast! 🚀

A buddy of mine had a gold 69 w-30 with an auto trans and 3.90 gears (mine had 4.33's), I dusted him twice one night after he hounded me all day at work. never told him about my "carb tweaks."
Richard the last year for the 400 c.i. was 1968 in 1969 is the first year for the 455 and in 1970 they got the winters casting for the aluminum intake it was the exact same as the cast iron but just the weight...

@@rjmzz430 just saw your post…I’m a bit late. The 1968 W-30’s held the NHRA D-stock class record for both et and mph…12.34 @ 113 mph. Doesn’t sound too wild these days, but in 1968 and 1969 these were very good stats. The long stroke 400’s had a lot of shade thrown at them due to less rom potential. I owned two of these cars back in the day…a ‘68 and a ‘69….both beautiful street performance cars…(neither were W-30’s). I prepped the ‘68 with a 3.91 posi, a B&M shift kit for the turbo 400 automatic trans - shift points at 5200 rpm., and some mild head work…stiffer springs to manage higher rpm’s. The car easily ran low 14’s through the stock exhaust manifolds and on street tires. Remember, this was the non W-30. I also owned a new 1970 Duster 340, with auto and 3.23 posi rear-end. Right out of the box with nothing done to it, it et’d 14.57 @98 mph. The Duster was definitely the hotter car in stock trim, but didn’t have the ride, handling, or build quality of the Olds. I wish I could have scored a W-30….they were rare, and I can only imagine they must have been great performers. The heads on the W-30’s were superior to a run of the mill 442. W 30 decals are absolutely in the correct place for a 69 but the motor is not the original. That should be a ram rod 400. Also, no power brakes available on the 69 W-30 because of the special cam and insufficient vacuum. All that being said the car is stunning.😎😍
I had a 69 Cutlass it was the same gold only had a black vinyl top and a two-speed automatic. I had picked it up for a winter car that's how long ago that was.
They were ALL beautiful. Never did I think both Oldsmobile and Pontiac would be history. They made some of the classiest cars Detroit rolled out.

I’ve always liked the boxy bodied cars the best, (64’s through “67”, but I have a soft spot for the “68” & 69”.
Oldsmobile had its own unique idle tone. And its high end power band. All its power came in at 3000rpm and kept pulling hard.❤❤
Long duration cams and the exhausts were specially tuned to get that wonderful " gallop" sound only an oldsmobile V8 can make 😂
My brother had one. Smoking hot. Great for anything but long trips in summer time. Man those 455's got HOT FAST!

Vacuum at idle on my 69 w-30 4spd was about 6" Hg, not enough to run power brakes.

Meant 400, but W heads were all larger valved and ported compared to the standard 350,400, and later 455 in '70.

Had a '71 Delta 88 with the Rocket 455 and the 400 Trans. My father-in-law pro-built the Trans for me. Sure would set you back in your seat!

Is this a 455 motor ? The stock 400 W-30 of 1969 didn’t have an aluminium intake manifold. In any case - beautiful car !
In '68 and '69 the 455 rocket was only offered in the Hurst olds.
