Really happy to finally feature this, I really do love the weird stuff. Will be sad to see it go, but I would rather it end up with someone who's going to give it more attention.
I think the later ones with midi would be fun to try, use them to control some really serious synth gear.
REALLY WISH I had though to say you can have the chord sustain if you have the chord memory selected, even if you aren't recording a sequence, that sustaining can be really helpful for moving around the pads, especially with old / inconsistently triggering buttons.

I really want one now. For no good reason except that I just really like the way it sounds… which, on further consideration, may be the only good reason to buy an instrument.
It is a unique & interesting thing. Wouldn't mind holding onto it, but I'm sure someone else will get more use out of it.
The Omnichord is basically an electronic Autoharp. That's what it was designed to be.
@AlgoCompSynth by znmeb me too..so awesome..I thought I was the only 1
Charming sound from the omnichord. Great explanation too. It had that soft tone so lovely
Cheers, thanks!
Unsolicited music theory time! If you are playing a major or dominant 7 chord or a minor or minor7, you can experiment with playing the diminished chord one column to the left (or two to the right, they are inversions of one another) back and forth with that chord. Like if you had 4 beats of A min 7 in a song, you could try 1 beat of Am7, 1 beat of D diminished, and then repeat. That's the basis of Barry Harris' diminished scales of chords. You can also throw that diminished in as a lead-in chord, like if you were playing Fmaj to Cmaj, you could do Fmaj, F diminished, C maj.
Good stuff, I will not be retaining this!
Love me some diminished chords. Thanks for pointing this out so simply
Yup, here because of Adventure Time. Lots of the music feature the omnichord. The composers have said they were inspired by video game music and used lots of sounds/instruments to create songs for the show.
Gave my omnichord away to my godson when I lived in Spain. Great instrument.
The Adventure Time connection is not only the soundtrack, but one (or multiple) actually appeared in the show and were played by some of the main characters, most notably Marceline and Simon (Ice King) writing the song I Remember You. It's a very nostalgic sounding song with awfully dark lyrics, and the omnichord backs it up very nicely!
Plus the Adventure Time soundtrack kinda sounds Like That anyways, Omnichord or not.
EDIT: just seen it's already been explained, oh well. just got done with a rewatch of the whole series and it's all very fresh up there!
Good info, thanks for that!
Sorry, late reply, but are you sure an Omnichord in animated form actually appeared in Adventure Time?
@@Illogical_Tales it’s not an exact 1 to 1 animated omnichord, but you can tell what it’s meant to be in the season 4 episode “remember you”. it passably resembles one of the brown omnichords, and Simon definitely plays it like an omnichord with the digi harp feature.
I actually have my eye on one of these at the moment. The bard DnD usage is very funny. It's a real cool device for people who aren't musicians and just want to strum at something
They really are rad. Can recommend!
I could watch you play this for hours
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Now I need a followup to redirect the GAS I got from this video. That thing is seriously cool.
Honestly, they're a bit too unique to make any good recs. Any other model of the Omnichord will probably scratch the itch too, at least!
Suzuki also partnered with Hammond to make midi foot pedal controllers in the manner of the Moog Taurus pedals. They were called Midistep by Forward Designs. They came out in the mid 80's. I have 2 sets and 1 set of the Roland PK-5A midi foot pedals. I use them to control a Minitaur from Moog and an Oberheim for the strings or to trigger other sounds. They are great and built like tanks. It's a shame that they weren't more popular. Back when Moog came out with the Taurus pedals 3, I wanted to purchase a set but 1. They were so darned expensive! 2. Knowing how much I'd have to pay for them AND they were only making 1000 of them, is that something that you want to take out Knowing that they could be stolen or damaged? They weren't worth it. So at least the Minitaur came along at the right time! Now Behringer is coming out with the Toro. It doesn't have pedals however it's almost a clone of the Taurus pedal body. The price will be 200.00. I don't care what. After the model D and the Poly D, we know they are going to shake the foundation of any place with a good PA. Period.
Hadn't seen this, had to look it up. really rad!
"Touch me I'm going to scream" by My Morning Jacket features this instrument heavily in the form of a steel drum sample.
I saw my morning jacket when I was still in highschool, jim james had an SP404 hanging around his neck. great show.
@@JorbLovesGear If you search "touch me im going to scream letterman" you can find it. Any other time I've seen them perform it like I have also only seen it sampled also.
I just bought one at a garage sale for 10 bucks!, I'm a guitarist but excited to mess around with this
Excellent demo! 🙏
Dude friggin killing it!
🙏🙏🙏
You did this machine justice with this video. Thank you!
🙏🙏🙏
i love the omnichord and i love your hair. its so nice when you let us visit. the gobbinjr song firefly i think shows off how well the naked omnichord can hang together in a composition, and how good the design is to suit a single performer, and elevate a track past where guitar girl could usually get you. suzuki made something that is so easy to dismiss, and i think its built that reputation because of how accessable they made it. bad poetry is easy to write, bad songs are easy to omnichord. but a good performer with the omnichord can make something wonderful.
🙏🙏thanks, and good points!
My brain has started playing A Little Respect like 597 times while watching the first part hahah
loool good ear
I’m one of the Adventure Time people lol. I won’t bore you with my opinions, but I wanted to say thanks for the pedal demo. I’ve been a guitarist/musician for like 20+ years, and I have one of these bad boys coming in the mail as we speak. So I was wondering what it was going to sound like once I start running it through some of my gear. Much appreciated, dude. I’m even more stoked to get mine now lol.
Nice video man!!
Thank you!
You can get chord hold if you press the playback/record button down with chord memory interface turned off! Thanks for the video. The Omnichord really shines with a phaser.
I definitely know that, I cant believe I missed it in the video lol
@Jorb, use the Record/Playback button in the chord memory interface section to enable/disable chord hold
great video by the way !
idk it just looks and sounds so cool. i rlly want one now 😭😭
wow thatQchord is hot af! I almost bought an omnichord once and have always wondered what I passed up.
They really are dope
I had a chance to get one of these and did not, regret it.
Another will come up, surely
Very versatile instrument. I'm lucky I have two different models of the Q-Cord, and I have plenty of foot pedals for sound affects. It is a neat instrument even though it is a button pushing unit. I will be having some fum later thsi summer in my free time. Thanks for showing me more about thsese instruments specially for background type add-ins in recording songs. The ones I picked up didn;t have any owners manuals with them so when I got them it was all hit and miss in the sounds they made. Now I have a better understanding of the two instruments that didn't come with them.. I'll apply what I have learned here and seek out more sound affects as I go. Thanks very much for making this video.
This would be a good one to mod with individual outs for chord and strum. Then you could gate the chords with some envelopes or lfos while keeping the strum clean.
I really want better control of the drum machine bit, I think that could be great fun
thank you dope content
❤❤ love your giggly enthusiasm. 😂😂
I´m super freaked out because I have been watching omnichord videos because I feel like I need to learn more because I AM GOING TO START MY FIRST DND CAMPAIN AND MY CHARACTER IS A BARD WHO WILL USE THE OMNICHORD!!!! AND I WAS JUST THINKING OF HOW COULD IT WOULD BE TO HAVE ONE FOR IT! I am most certainly not able to get one, not only are they out of my price range, but out of my country (I´m from Chile), but maybe one day I´ll get one, who knows!!
Danny Lanois plays an Omnichord on U2’s The Joshua Tree - the most obvious appearance I think is on “Trip Through Your Wires”, complete with a strum right at the end…
Strange I just got a Q Chord 3 days ago and apparently so did you!
Want to try midi out to control a bunch of stuff, that would be dope
I have a QChord and use it just to be wierd sometimes .... And put it through some of my guitar pedals...... Just because ....... It's FUN
Just here after seeing how the Gorilaz created Clint Eastwood....
I've had one of these laying in my closet for years. I actually forgot about it. Never realized they're actually worth something. Mine is in great shape with the case too. I may just look at selling mine.
I've owned an OM-84 for 12 years and never knew you could hold 2 chord buttons down simultaneously for more chord variations. Thank you!
p.s. my favourite Ominichord song must be the imaginatively titled "Omni" from Daniel Lanois' Sling Blade soundtrack:. ua-cam.com/video/5Ntybob_KS8/v-deo.html
Good jorb
if these went for 2 or 300, id get one asap. Thats exactly what one like me needs!
I want one of these so bad
Same
Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood is based on the Rock preset 1 of the Omnichord 300. and when i say based.. i mean its the whole song.
The The…This is the Day is the standout omnichord track for me.
Good one!
The pattern I heard on the strum bar was root, up to the third, down to the fifth, then the pattern repeats on the next octave up, spanning a total of four octaves.
Here courtesy of Uncle Larry. This appeals to the 15 year old me in 1984.
Got mine for 140 last year
17:00 Holy shit, that riffage is cool! 🤣
Ahh cheers thank you!
@@JorbLovesGear No problem. Its a nice little jam, that is just weird enough :D The fact that the melody is in minor, played over major, it breaks all the rules, hahah 🤘 That omnichord can probably trigger all kinds of weird ideas that you can translate onto other instruments ,like the guitar etc.
Q Chord looks like something Halo stole
Lmao, it has that halo 2 ghost drip
Cool
If you're located in Nashville, I could have sworn I saw you at a bar Sunday night lol
Not I lol. Sounds like a good lookin dude though
Add sElf to that list as well...super good music and check out Gizmodgery fully done with children's toys only...it's still dope and is a producer's album, you'll understand when you listen and remind yourself it's all done with toys .....
What does the keyboard pot do? You said you’d come back to it but I’m not sure that you did. Great demo!
You can play a monophonic part on the darker buttons, that controls the level!
@@JorbLovesGear I’ll have another go at this. Thank-you!
Vennart - Immortal Soldiers!
i have the same model and i used to play it all the time, but it broke a while ago :(
im trying my best to fix it, and i really hope i can get it working cuz its genuinely one of my favourite instruments
What's up with it? Sometimes it's just a bad connection on the power cable.
@@JorbLovesGear
it was half broken when i got it, since some of the chord buttons didnt work. my dad's an engineer and i asked him to see if he could fix it, but when he finished it just stopped working completely
batteries weren't helping at all, so we tried plugging it into the power cable. when it turns on, none of the buttons work and it just makes this weird noise that kinda sounds like a beat
that sounds really tough, i was hoping it was something simple.. good luck!
@@Tulip_bip what kind of adaptor did you use to plug it in? Omnichords use a weird specific adapter that's 12V and negative polarity and anything else can easily fry the board.
I see ya girls checkin' out my trunks
I see ya girls checkin' out the front of my trunks
I see ya girls looking at my junk
Then checking out my rump, then back to my sugalumps
Also this shit is literally kahoot-core
lmaaoo
I want one, so I can make music with it, first I need a Dreadbox Hypnosis
Fahorglingrads!!!
Which model is the most fully featured ?
All depends, in some ways it would be the latest, the Q Chord, but as far as most advanced """classic""" maybe the OM-150 / 250
what was the other shop mentioned besides ebay ?
Local classifieds! Like craigslist, FB marketplace, flea markets etc
@@JorbLovesGear 🤘🏽
I have one that stoped making noise. Anyone want to try and fix it?
Hit it real hard
@@JorbLovesGear be cooler if if that worked. Alas…
Does it have to be plugged into an amp ?
Wake me up when you release the price. I'm not paying more than £200 for this tbh.
I came here to hear some Gorillaz Clint Eastwood in Rock 1
you really nead a pop-filter
GSXR's older, disabled brother
what is so god damn funny
sounds like sarah belle reid over here. laughing your asses off through the entire script read
If you're upset that I'm enjoying what I'm doing, turn it off my guy.
@@JorbLovesGear not upset, just curious my guy. i like your content. just confused by the infomercial style cadence
this isn't nbc. you dont have to read your script in the tone of carson daly
I used it for ambience on the last record I made lol
Feist... Rilo Kiley... annndd ahhh, who knows.
