I have to disagree. As a customer I hate it when the seller tries to push me to buy something. Just let me browse. When I see sellers doing that, I avoid going near that table. I shop better when someone isn't guilting or pushing me to make a purchase. I'm a vendor too, I see the customers looking uncomfortable when the sellers push too hard.
100%! Casual conversation is fine. I don't want to be pushed. It makes me so uncomfortable! Almost every person I saw in this video that was pushed or pressured looked very uncomfortable.
me too. if i see him pushing someone else i will walk far away from him. i dont need a seller pestering, and pushing. thats why i am there, to browse....
If you are a pushy sales person I immediately leave or never interact if I can see it from afar… if I’m at my regular job and vendor wants to sell something if they are pushy I automatically shut them down … even if it’s something I need. Pressure sales pisses me right off the bat
I've been selling handmade soap for 11 years. I've done a lot of shows where people just sit back and ignore their customers. You have to engage! I have people ask me what my favorite scent is, and no matter which one I pick, that's the one they buy more than any other.
Oh that’s an excellent suggestion! If it’s your favorite and they believe you then it must be something very special and now they want to have it. Brilliant. 🔬
Oh Matt… I really needed to see this! I do Craft Fairs and you have given me so much helpful information. You do it so well!! Definitely learned from you and this video!! Thank you 👍💕
Thank you. I do engage with customers and it is amazing what I hear. Some people are really lonely and want someone to talk to. Then I switch the conservation to my hobby, jewelry, and we can click on that topic. It doesn't work with everyone, but I am still learning.
All good points. The only thing is that at most of the outdoor shows I've done, the tents are set up smack up against each other so you can only fit 1 table front and center and the rest have to go inside the tent. You could spread out like you showed only if you paid for 2 spots or more, which of course adds to the cost of doing the show.
Very true. It varies per show. Still put every table way in the front, even if you can only display half as many items. Push your table as far out in front of your tent as promoters will let you. I've been yelled at by promoters to push my tables back and I still only push them back a few inches
Many women like to hang out and look without conversation until they decide. Women like to window shop first, choose, buy, and then converse. Just a tip.
Love, love, love this video and all your awesome tips! ❤You definitely know how to engage your customers and keep things lively even if they walk away. I enjoy your wirewrapping videos also and have learned so much as you make it more fun than business. Keep up the good work!👍🏼

It can be unsafe to push into the aisle. I’ve seen in the comments where you say that you have been spoken to, moved back, and then pushed forward again when they walked away. That sort of thing can get someone on a list of vendors who should be avoided. And other vendors notice, since it can affect the flow of traffic and cause people to skip the neighboring vendors. Those vendors will talk to event coordinators as well, warning them of people who don’t follow the event rules. (I am an vendor coordinator myself as well as a vendor, and failure to follow rules can seriously limit what events people are welcome to vend at)
Matt you can use weights for picnic table cloths too or sew heavy washers on corners of flat sheets, big fish weights. Even fitted twin sheets will fit some tables
This is very timely for me. Thank you! Thank you! MORE PLEASE! I have been asking their favorite crystal or color to get conversation going, but I’ll try asking their favorite piece and see if they’ll try it on - and update if it helps. I notice you use a lot of humor in your interactions, which I think helps you even though you didn’t highlight it. And do you discount everything? Or how frequently? Lastly at what point do you “greet every customer”Obviously when they have stopped at your booth, but do you also reach out to people that are passing by? Wait for eye contact?
Stop everyone, even if they're trying to get away. Double your prices so you can easily give discounts. Don't wait for them to try it on. Force them to.
Handcuff the potential customer to a chair, put their favorite piece of jewelry on them, threaten them to agree they want it while rummaging through their pocketbook for their wallet. SALE COMPLETED! 😂
This video is still gold. I'm sharing with my friend who just discovered her love with wire! We are going to keep these tips in mind and see if we can't get out there and sell!
I use fitted sheets as table cloths. They work amazing and I can change up the colors for cheap. Just wrap the fitted part around the front legs and there ya go.
Your right about pricing pieces higher cause at markets hoomans always want to haggle the price ...I learned from doing shows put at least 3 or 5dollars more cause that's what they tend to discount. And honestly if someone buy my item at the fake higher price I tell them they won a discount😁 That's just me.
Thank you so much for sharing this. It was very helpful to my husband and me. We are just starting out and this video hit all the major points: marketing, displays, etc. And you took us step by step of the process, which i like. Thanks again

@@MattsCrazyArt I get what you’re saying. It is also important to try to stay in the good with the promoters so you are welcome back when they have another event. I’ve been selling jewelry at cons and roller derbies ect. It’s important to be respectful and remembered for being easy to work with
Agree. We get a 10x10 space nothing can go in the walkways. I put 8ft table in the back and one on a side. Leaves alot of room in center for people to move around under my space.
