This was a great install video. I watch the whole thing and didn’t skip through just enjoying how well explained and informative you were through the install video. A lot of install videos suck and yours was awesome
I appreciate thew feedback! thats exactly why i started making them!
Great work. And nice truck.
Thank you so much for including the torque specs! You have no idea how many videos I watched until I found this one with the torque specs!
Exactly why I did it!
@@GreenMountainProjects So, I think the caliper bolt torque specs are 55 ft-lbs and I got a few mixed results on the front sway bar end links and set mine to 74 ft-lbs but I think that's wrong too. Do you remember what the torque specs for those are supposed to be? Also, I hear a knuckle/clunking noise on the right side when I brake and turn the wheel. I tried to investigate but I don't see anything out of the ordinary. Have you faced a similar issue?
@@HookedonHD I would check your sway bar, I had that happen where it wasn’t tight enough and it was sliding on the connection point making a thud when the suspension moved. Just give them a double check. When you drive on it the suspension settles back down and can expose these being a little looser.
As far as torque specs I don’t remember off the top of my head but the caliper bolts should be fine around 60ft-lbs. I think I set the sway bars at about 80ft-lbs.
@@GreenMountainProjects I didn't touch my sway bar just the lower nut on the tie rod end links. I'll double check those again but from what I see I think they should be 26 ft lbs + 180 and I have them at 74 ft lbs. I might change them to see. The reason I mentioned it is that you didn't mention those two so I figured I'd reach out to let you know maybe you can add it to the description. Other than that I really appreciate the prompt response and the video, it helped me out a lot. I hope I'll figure out the knuckle noise for my sake though.
@@HookedonHD I appreciate it, good luck!
Clean!
Great video, was doing mine this past weekend. Everything was going well until that damn strut bolt decided to completely snap in half :)
Yikes! That’s unfortunate!
I appreciate individuals like yourself for vids like this. They save us a lot of money and builds confidence with taking on tough tasks… I noticed you, unlike most, are providing torque specs. I was wondering how valid are these specifications… in other words, i want to know if i can rely on everything staying put during travel 😂 if I copy and paste your Torque specs if/when executing this project.
I appreciate it! As far at the specs they are what I find for manufacturers recommendations. I always go a bit higher +5ftlbs to play it safe.
Excellently done
You definitely have a future as a teacher
What front bumper is that. I like it. I need something before I hit another deer.
Thank you🤘🤘
I appreciate it! For the bumper go to my channel and look for my video on my Move Bumper build. That is what i'm running. This is a build it your self bumper that comes in parts if you can weld. they also have bolt together versions so all you have to do is bolt it up and paint it. Much cheaper than some of these pre made bumpers that come powder coated.
Thank god I found this video loved how you showed how to do it and the stress I’d have to go through if I didn’t buy the front struts with the kit instead of using my old struts. Probably be a lot easier for me. Also I don’t know if you have warranties on your truck but does it void any?
I don’t have a warranty anymore but I do believe you can go up to a 4” lift and be ok. Never hurts to call the dealer you got it from and ask.
Im sure it wasnt a problem, but you if possible torque all suspension when the weight of the vehicle is on it, bushings can get twisted and end up with premature wear. I learned that with my jeep and torqued everything with the suspension drooping.
I haven't had any issues so far but definitely a good point. Some of these would be very difficult to get to with the tires on.
Looks great man, I’m doing the same lift…I got two questions tho!
1) are those wheathertech hood protectors/rain protectors (they look great)
2) what brand of running board is that?
Sure! The hood protector is weather-tech but the window ms are not, I would recommend you get weather tech for the windows at these ones I have flap a little at high speeds and it’s annoying.
The running boards are from American trucks and should be in one of my older videos where I installed them. There is a link to them there.
Thank you
Aren't you suppose to torque the upper control arms when it is on the ground because of the bushings?
Could be possible, I didn’t and I have had no issues.
ID on running boards?
Thank you for including the strut spacer install in this video. The Rough Country instructions are garbage. That got my sub for sure.
Great to hear!
Im surprised you dont have an offset wrench or a go through ratchet set to use instead of the vice grips
I picked up a go through set right after lol
Truck looks great! Whats' your wheel offset?
Thanks! They are -18 offsets.
I have this kit any tips on how to get the sway bar link to go into the lca completely ? Tomorrow I’m gonna try and put the truck down and I hope the weight will push the link into the lca fully
truck should be on the ground to get the links in
@@nickmason9315 yeah I put the vehicle on stands to torque every thing down and it popped right in
Because your truck came with a level. Do you think that is the reason it was hard to take off the nut on the strut? Do you think it will be easier on a stock strut?
No because the spacer is attached at the 3 top mounting bolts not the strut bolt, it was hard because of corrosion and it being a lock nut.
How does the new rear coil perform vs the air bags that you had installed with the stock springs?
The new coils work great as far as payload but rides stiffer like a 2500. The Bags don't support the load as well but do help the ride quality by keeping it stock. Overall i take the coils any day because they don't ride horribly and you don't have to worry about leaks.
Did you have to disconnect the electric rack and pinion before starting?
Nope
Did you have to grease the ball joint of the upper control arm?
No
Can i ask whats the step in height if i dont want the running boards. Going to a 1500 and trading in a 2500 with 2 inch front level and i dont the 1500 to be taller than the 2500. Thanks
It will probably sit around the same height as a 2500 with a level. Maybe a little shorter.
Why didn’t you get the loaded struts? Are they not available?
I didn’t because I wanted to upgrade my coils to heavy duty coils. If I got the loaded strut I would have had to take it apart anyways to swap the coils. Plus would have had a left over set of unused new RC coils.
are the rough country boards low enough after the lift ?
For me they are... not sure my wife completely agrees lol. There are other running board options that have a larger drop or a tube step that sits lower.
Nice video man, I just traded my 2021 ram in after doing the ready lift on it. Dealer gave me a great deal on a new 2023 with a 12” touch screen so I had to say good buy to my first love lol. But I was gonna do another ready lift but wanted to check on this rough country system. Seems pretty similar but I didn’t wanna mess with the strut again. Seems rough country offers a complete strut ready to drop in instead of taking it apart. I think I’ll go that route.
I ended up buying the laramie hood for my last truck and will do the same to my new one, I highly recommend it with yours. Really sets the final touch and makes it look super mean coming down the street. Specially since you have the led head lights!
Great video man!
Also don’t reattach sway bar till front ends done. You was working against the sway bar.
Agreed, I realized that.
Has the suspension settled and is driver side leaning after all this time
Suspensions settle once you rotate the tires and they level out. Since then its remained the same. there never was any leaning on the drivers side. may have been the camera angle.
The piston in the shock on the rear doesn’t need to be covered by rubber boot?
@@aceofhearts4265 no these are not necessary, I personally don’t like them because grit and water will work their way into them regardless and rust out the top of your shocks over time from being trapped. If it’s exposed then it will get cleaned.
How much rake do you think it would have if you only done the front
it would be quite obviously squatted.
Does the lift, plus the beefier tires throw off your speedometer some? If so, how much off is it?
@@solache281 all depends on the tire diameter. Lift and tire width won’t do anything to affect that. For example a 35” tire will have you off roughly 3-3.5 MPH faster when your speedometer is saying 65mpg. The faster you go the more it varies from the actual. The bigger the tire the more it will be off. Go to tire size.com and use their calculator and it gives you the ability to compare the stock size vs new size and shows the speed change you will see.
Any parts i should buy before i try and install myself? Roughly how long would it take to install? I appreciate the detailed video.
Nothing other than i mentioned in the video, I would budget a good weekend for this.
@@GreenMountainProjects just got it installed everything came out great except a weird knocking sound on the right side. Thanks for the video
What tires are you running and wheels?
The tires are LT295/60R20 Falken Wildpeak AT3W’s. The wheels are 20x10 -18 offset Fuel Rebel Wheels.
Does your steering move at all when you hit a bump now? I have the same lift and my steering moves over bumps now
@@styfull mine doesn’t. Did you get an alignment after?
how did it affect your mileage
Not really noticeable, maybe a mile less per gallon on average.
Would I have to remove tires if I’m just doing rear struts?
Yes they would be very in the way.
I ordered the same kit but mine didn’t come with instructions. My mechanic says it’s missing the plates. Has anyone brought a kit missing the plates ?
@@thulk5241 can’t say it happened to me, I would give RC a call and get them sent to you.
Hows it holding up?
Great! Never had any issues with RC lifts and have been running them on all my trucks for years.
What are the biggest tires you can fit on the kit without rubbing and trimming?
I have 295/60/20 on it and there is no rub. That is roughly a 34”x 11.5” tire. There are many variables with rim size and offset. RC has suggested wheel and tire sizes listed below this product on their site.

That I beam is scary unsafe…it could easily roll left or right..needed to be a lot wider…
Not sure what kind of a physics class you took in high school but that beam on its side isn’t going anywhere…
Spacers are the wrong way to go….
I don't know I've had decent luck with spacers I ran them on three different trucks and never had any issues. I currently have a set on my 2019 ram that have been on the truck since new so far no issues.
Preload spacers* nobody has issues with top hat
Tour tires stick out way too far, looks ridiculous
Thanks for tour opinion!
Lmfao epic brother.
