More anecdotal info but I'm a paramedic and been mostly wearing a Casio Linage rated at 50m in the shower because that watch gets kinda gross from work and so far in my 6 years of ownership the water resistance has been fine. I've also worn a few divers in the shower after I've gone in the pool or sea with it to get the pool chemicals / salt off.

@@dhruviinYeah, even their watches that aren't supposed to be water resistant. I was an idiot when I was 9 and wore my DB-32 (yes, the calculator watch) in a swimming pool for half an hour - I still use it to this day.
Because if your watch has a date function, during that time frame it slowly changes to the next day. You don't want to mess up that mechanism, and want it to occur naturally.
Honestly i do all those things and can add jacuzzi to the list. If i spend money on quality watch it better be able to take abuse or i won't buy same brand again
I am confused. You buy a dive watch that can go 100-200m under water but showering with it does more damage or is he referring to other type of watches? I am new to the mechanical/automatic world.
The one thing I hate about my Seiko SNXS75K1 is that the crown is recessed and can only be pulled out from the bottom edge. I can definitely feel some upward strain on the stem when I use my nail to pull the crown out.
Soap is a surfactant, so hot soapy water does not agree with the parts of your watch that exist to keep it watertight. Also the last bit of advice is really mostly for Seiko movements.
hey man!! could u pls do a list of some good (i guess affordable too) automatic chronographs… i love them with all my heart, but im still just a student (and my currency is in the shitter rn). One day ill get my hands on a speedmaster!! But are there any others that are well below that price?
Well...if you're into cold showers, maybe we can give that a pass. Hot showers? Not a good idea. (Me? Have a wall-mounted clock in the bathroom...much better idea.)
Honestly, the way I see it, I'd rather have to replace the gasket in a few years than miss out on the convenience of my 100M WR and keeping my watch clean.
Wore/wearing an inexpensive quartz field watch 24/7 for 19 years and never had an issue other than batteries. Then I replaced the Ronda 515 movement and gasket. Good to go for 19 more.
There is no hostile environment for watches like my old comprehensive school. They had turquoise painted walls that had popcorn ceiling. on the walls. My poor DB-32 never looked the same
I wear mine (Seiko SSK001) in shower every morning to keep track of the time while I’m in the shower (other people need the shower and kids need to be dropped off at school). It’s 100m water resistant so I don’t see the problem with it.
I’ve heard the chemicals in the water damage the watch but idk tbh. I’ve never worn my watch in the water and I’ve heard the same chemical thing for pools too. I’m considering buying a Seamaster so I probably won’t do it as I don’t want to break a luxury watch
Yeah but then you're still owning them. Stop owning them, having them exist in the world causes irreparable damage and you'll have to get it serviced sooner than if it didn't exist
I suggest you all stop talking about things you obviously don't understand and not experienced and now I'm talking about water resistance. I used many watches under the shower every single day more than 20 years, some of them with water resistance under 50 meters. I also opened and closed many watch cases hundreds of times without pressure testing them and used them also in salt water without any single problem. So maybe your watches are not good enough or most likely you don't understand the water resistance, todays sealing methods, the materials and technologies at all. Just buy an smart watch . You dont need to service it and it has tons of field tools normal watches can dream about . Something really useful compared to a bracelet that just tells the time
i'm more confused by how everyone is fighting the idea that you shouldn't wear a watch in shower (something that i find really weird because it's just plain uncomfortable) rather than using the crown while watch is on your wrist like, how the fuck is it different from holding a watch and using a crown. Like do every watch has a wrist detector and will self implode if used while worn???
Why would you wear your watch at all, lock it up in a safe so someone else can enjoy it later…just like sports cars and surfboards…never use them just cross your fingers and hope they grow in value…
Yup. I refuse to wear my watch in the shower for the hot steam messing up the gaskets.
