DMP-A6 owner here. Overall this is a fair review for your main audience looking for the best sound for as little buck as possible. You made some good points that are certainly well worth consideration in that sector. However, I respectfully don't think this is the target market that Eversolo is going for. Where this product utterly excels is as a streamer into a higher end dac. It scales superbly well in that regard and, as other reviews have mentioned, it sonically beats much higher priced competition in that use case. I also think the majority of owners will be two channel folk like myself, even if using DSD, so the HDMI multichannel thing is not a box we feel the need to tick. Furthermore, I suspect this is likely the first in a line of streamers from Eversolo, so more feature rich inputs and indeed outputs will probably follow. In my own situation, however, I dont think I've ever been more impressed with a value proposition in almost 40 years in this hobby.

I agree with your comment. This unit is not meant for tv use. It’s sole purpose is audio listening, as you can gather by the HDMI out out for DSD, and not for watching movies. I believe audiophiles or budding audiophiles like the 6inch screen because of the album art. That’s part of the whole experience, same with the UV meters…old school. I have a Cambridge cxv2 steamer I like the sound, the screen could have been better but it adds to the experience. In my living room I have the Bluesound node v2, sound is good but, visually it stinks. Ultimately to each their own, but this unit is for music lovers.

My first streamer ever…I bought the eversolo for the build quality n the screen as well! and thought the price was reasonable compared to the bluesound…could you add/use a hdmi converter with an input? Or would that kill the sound?
Btw after 30 years of entry level gear, I just spent around $10k in an attempt to build a real system with an Oppo 205, modded rotel cdp, van alstine m225 monoblocks, and AVA fet tube pre plus $$$ NOS tubes, hi end straightwire cables to run my Vandersteen 2ce speakers. Am I happy? Yes more or less…I went the cheap audio route and had “ok” sound… But, Randy let’s be honest… what do you listen to at home? Lol Obviously you have the benefit of auditioning a ton of gear and can cherry pick the good stuff, I have 7 pairs of speakers at home , did diy speakers and tube kits and at 66 years of age want to enjoy proper detail and realism that $2-3k amps and preamps provide…Sorry after experiencing 200wpc there’s no going back to 60, and I’m sure you’ll agree that the “sound” benefits are at all volume levels…
I’m like you as well and love a great deal, my old Vandy 2ce NEVER sounded this good…Oh and the right fancy speaker cables and interconnects DO make a difference .

I totally agree with your assessment.
Basically the best all in one streamer DAC on the market under $1,000, only being bettered by the Hi-Fi Rose, and even that’s debatable. 🤣🤣🥰🥰
I love the idea of the Wiim and J2, that Wiim has a magical streaming network that sounds really clean, but ya need an external DAC as it’s DAC isn’t really great, and the J2 would be a nice fit!! Only thing ya loose is all the cool and fun features and functions of the solo, but if it’s all about the sound then that’s a no brainer choice.
I wish Rose or solo would come out with just a streamer.
PS- hook the Wiim up to the solo with the Wiim as the streamer and check out that solo DAC!! It’s fantastic!! Makes me want to get the EverSolo Z8 DAC. 🥰🥰🥰
Well done as usual brother. Coffee is on us this morning. Cheers.

I had a Wiim Pro Plus going into a Schiit Modi+ first. Once I got the DMP-A6, I moved the Wiim to my office and use the A6 on my living room system. I like the sound of the built in dac on the A6 better and use it for my CD player also. (CD player to the coax in on the A6). I ripped all of my CDs to a 2TB drive on the A6 using a $35 USB CD drive. As an owner of the WiiM Pro, Mini, Bluesound Node 2021 version, Geshelli labs J2 AKM. ETC. Eversolo DMP-A6. Eversolo wins in so many categories. I get it, If you are strapped for cash then WiiM is definitely fine. But no mistake about it, the DMP A6 is a much better all around device with a greater feature set and better build quality that you will have to pay for. Especially considering the nearest comparable competitor the hi-Fi rose is so much more expensive. The DMP-A6 is a great value in its own right for the feature set that you are paying for in my opinion. I do like and actively use both daily though. WiiM had some Roon bugs initially as well, but seems to have been corrected. You can’t go wrong with either.

I’m using Amazon music on the DMP-A6 without any problems. It came on it straight out of the box. 🤷🏻‍♂️… the eARC is a missing link indeed. But the over all quality is way better than lots of more expensive streamers I know. I was waiting long time for a streamer like that. Display, connectivity and sound quality are way above average. The reaction time of the touch display is without any delay. Another cool thing is that you have that cast mode which mirrors display on the Eversolo with the cell phone display. Handling that thing works intuitive. But what I like the most is that you don’t necessarily need to use you’re cell phone to use it. I bought the remote for $15 and have the display… that’s all I need. A wonderful stand alone streaming dac with only that one missing eARC connection that I can deal without.

I’ve had the Eversolo DMP-A6 for about a month now and love it! I like having the screen than not having one, especially one that looks this good. I compared it to the bluesond node 3 I already had, the Eversolo sounded much better. Also, compared it to the WiiM pro connected to Schiit modi, once again the Eversolo easily sounded better. I use Qobuz mostly, but really like having Apple music natively on the Eversolo that plays hi-res, instead of using airplay. Eversolo should have included the $12 remote in the box is the only con for me.

I only got into streaming music into my main system with a Wiim Pro 9 months ago thanks to CAM. Had that running to a Topping DAC and into my main rig. It was nice and a little better sound quality than I expected.
The option for plugging in a 2 or 4TB SSD directly into the EverSolo (i have a huge Hi-area music catalog), along with its build quality, looks, and early reviews got me to bite. Quickly downloaded the Amazon Music app (a little sluggish at times, but easy to use with the EverSolo app Cast feature on my phone) and WOW! Significantly better sound than the Wiim Pro. Much better bass extension, less harsh on the top.
Might an EverSolo DNP-A6 using the Geshelli Labs J2 sound better? It might, but I’m trying to finish a separated system and will have to wait. The bottom line is everything I have played on Amazon Music thru the EverSolo so far has been at 192kHz and sounded phenomenal. I honestly never thought streaming could sound this good, and I am enjoying music more than ever, a lot more often.
Isn’t that what it’s all about?

I picked up a WiiM Pro just a week ago.
An early adopter said they had better sound using an iFi iPower X power supply.
I plugged my WiiM immediately into a lesser iFi iPower via included optical cable to my Metric Octave NOS dac. “Ok” sound, plus no run in.
I had a glass fiber optical cable around, and that helped a lot.
Then I ran the optical through an iFi spdif iPurifier 2 with an upgraded iFi iPower X supply > the coax input ( it converts ) on the dac.
Now with this arrangement imaging, blacker backgrounds, clean images, much better bass definition, better depth of sound stage all much better.

The solution. My LHY 5v units are 1.4 amps. the WiiM Pro requires 5v 2.0 amps to work properly. So, I had an old ifi 5v 2.5 amp power supply here, still $69 on Amazon, that solved the glitches I was having with the WiiM Pro, and there was no discernible loss in SQ to my ear.

Ah, but you did build a Raspberry Pi streamer with a display a while back...And it didn't look too "Frankenstein". Hopefully the Eversolo DMP-A6 will push other manufacturers to offer similar streamers with a nice display. I'm hesitant on buying anything based on a particular flavor of Android, even a modified version, that relies on the streaming apps from the streaming companies themselves. How many years use can we expect to get from it before the apps no longer work? Are we going to get to the same point with streamers that we are with our cellphones and be buying new ones every 3 to 5 years? To some a ~$1000 purchase thrown away every 5 years isn't a "biggie", but to others, it's a "hold on, wait a minute" showstopper. If I spend $1000 on a turntable that lasts 20 years and has some resale value even after that, well, that's one thing. But buying a streamer I throw away in 5 years with no resale value gives me pause. To each their own.

I currently have an iFi NEO DSD DAC with a RoPieeeXL 7" Pi Roon endpoint. I do have an old Chromecast Audio attached for streaming, if needed, which is rare BTW. Anywho, I've been thinking about getting a Wiim Pro for upgraded streaming duties. I could get the Eversolo for about what I paid for the iFi NEO, but if the apps are locked down to Android12, that's an issue. If the apps stop being supported or updateable, then the Eversolo ends up in my box of ever growing devices that are "aged out". Not cool. I'll stick with my better DAC, my Frankenstein Pi display and a more cost effective streamer (i.e. Wiim Mini, Wiim Pro, something Arylic or CCA), that are cheaper to replace when they are too old to support.

If I was buying a streamer of this price range today, it would be the Eversolo, because it supports Apple Music natively.
I’m not an Apple fan (by any means), but they do present the best value in the Apple Music here in Portugal (cheaper than Spotify, with access to lossless, HiRes and Atmos).
Amazon doesn’t have the music service here, so it isn’t an option, and Tidal will charge almost the double than Apple Music to get HiRes and Atmos.
Apple Music is still lacking a “Connect” feature like Spotify and Tidal, probably because they’re pushing to sell their own hardware (I only have the iPad and Apple TV, the later mainly for Atmos music content).
So as much as I don’t like Apple as a company (in the way they always try to tie all their customers hands), as a music service is (in my view) the most interesting one over here (I’m leaving Spotify premium after years due to the lack of innovation, charging more for lossy music in their premium tie than Apple for lossless and Atmos).
In my view, the Eversolo looks good, and while the display is a nice touch, the main reason that I’d be tempted to buy one is the Apple Music (bitperfect) integration.
I do expect other brands to take notice of the DMP 6 success and do their job at making other options.
I would easily let go of the screen and other features (such as balanced outputs and even TOTL dac if they could implement Apple Music lossless in the streamer, since both Airplay and Chromecast have their own disadvantages.
But I do have to admit that while this Eversolo isn’t inexpensive, it does put a lot of (much) more expensive audiophile products to shame on how it looks and performs.
Until Apple launches some kind of “Connect” feature (which I don’t expect them to do until they can avoid it…), manufacturers have an opportunity to explore that market, and while Tidal is the most well known lossless streaming platform, Apple is the company that launched iTunes all that time ago…

I bought a new DMP A6 a little over a month ago. Pros - it's very well built and feels solid, the screen is awesome and I love the display. Cons - the wifi antenna strength seems weak compared to my old Bluesound Node 2i. The Node was always rock solid and never had drop outs. I've had multiple drop outs on the DMP. Also, the TuneIn integration with DMP is hot garbage. You have to cast from your phone and it's just a terrible interface. Whereas the Node has a flawless, easy to use interface with TuneIn. Sonically I agree with you cheapaudioman. The built-in DAC can be a bit tilted up on the DMP. I ended up running a coax out to my favorite DAC. To be fair, I never really loved the on-board DAC on the Node or other streamers I've heard either - so maybe that's not a big deal. Do I love the DMP? No. Do I like it? Yes, but I may not keep it due to the drop outs. I can forgive the HDMI, the missing Amazon music, the built in DAC, etc. But if it can't hold a wifi connection with all those big honking antenna's out back, I may ditch it. God, I love the screen and I'm a sucker for VU meters....Bluesound - WHERE ARE YOU?! Build me a streamer with VU's and I will line-up to buy it!!!!

I purchased and received an Eversolo DMP-A6 just last week so still getting familiar with it but I have the apps I subscribed to (Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify) up and running except for SoundCloud which I could not find an app for. So… Amazon Music just like Spotify and Apple Music were available in the Apps menu during setup so no problem getting it installed on the device and I get Hi-Res lossless music (so far up to 192 kHz) out of both Amazon Music and Apple Music streams (not all tracks ofcourse).
By the way my Eversolo DMP-A6 arrived with the latest firmware version 1.75 installed so check your firmware to make sure you have the latest !!!!

I like your sentiment that it's streamer with a really powerful dac or a dac with a really powerful streamer. Reminds me of "you got chocolate on my p-nut butter - you got p-nut butter on my chocolate". Good food for thought either way!
The screen would come in useful for the times when you want to see what's playing and your phone is not nearby. I just may return a new Wiim Pro from Prime Day and save my pennies for the DMP A6 (or FiiO R7)?
My current integrated amp has the older ESS Sabre ES9018K2M chip. Unsure if my old ears will hear the difference with the twin ES9038Q2M chips in the DMP A6 (steaming from the very old Chrome Audio hockey puck shaped streamer.)

    Apple Music question…
Has anyone compared the audio quality of the Eversolo going coax or optical directly to a dac to an iPad using the camera kit to usb directly into a dac? I’m very interested if the audio quality is that much better and worth the upgrade. Thanks!

My guess is that an iPad/USB > DDC> DAC would most likely out perform the Eversolo. This assuming you already have a good comparable or better DAC.

Why has everyone forgotten the Wiim Mini? It has the same DAC and internals as the Pro. And the same sound as the Pro, which I think is very good thanks to the TI BB DAC in both of them. I sent the Wiim Pro Plus back because the AKM DAC didn’t sound as good to me. The only reason to get a pro instead of a Mini is because you need the extra inputs and outputs, and Chrome-cast? Or Ruun? Especially if you’re going to plug it into an external DAC, the optical output of the Wiim Mini is just as solid as the Pro, and it has an auxiliary input too. Has everyone drunk the cool-aid? Core i7 > core i3. TI BB > AKM > Wolfsen > Analog Devices > Cirrus Logic > Sabre . How it’s implemented doesn’t change the tonality of the DAC enough to make, for example, a Sabre DAC sound better than, well, anything else. The preamp section doesn’t either! Anymore than an Intel Atom will ever appear to run better than an Intel core i7.

I love my Wiim pro, but honestly I’d take the Eversolo over it and, in fact, will be getting one when I move my current system to the bedroom and put together a new main system. Kef R3 Meta, maybe a Schiit Freya+ and two Vidar’s, likely an SVS sub or similar, and a Project turntable. I use Roon with Qobuz and can EQ through that.

The new Denafrips Streamer ($1349) does not also have a screen. in fact it looks like it has been put into an Ares DAC chassis and box. Saving construction costs I guess. Wonder how it sounds? Now that the DAC market has been totally flooded, I guess the Chinese will begin to flood the market with streamers. Not a bad thing.

I'm looking for a system that I can connect my TV to so the wife and I can watch movies once in a while, but actually use it for two channel music the majority of the time. Even if they raised the price to $1k, and added the HDMI, I would jump on this. Thanks for the great review.

Just buy an under a $1000,- receiver, use bi-amping (4 amps from the receiver if possible) for your main front speakers unless you use power-amps to get just a little extra power and control. The receiver will have all desired connections for tv etc. The streamer will have all your musical wishes.
